I still remain convinced there is no justification for an aging Hancock, he will not add anything to the SGP. However, I guess that was why Monster ensure he was in Cardiff to go on TV to say he wants a place.4 points

What a genuine guy Madsen is. One of the first out to congratulate Zmarzlik. Proper sportsman who gets unfair flack.4 points

Pish! It's EASY to win a GP series! One-off World Finals were far better, and really showed the better riders! The calibre of rider at this level today is crap! These riders wouldn't even have been good enough to get in a BL team in the 60's and 70's! (At least, that's what I read on the BSF...)3 points

Hmmmm... How long have you got? Of course, I wasn't able to personally witness things, but I know a number of forum members have... Steve3 points

What's the story with Lasse Bjerre - is he likely to be riding in the final? Choice of guests will be very important for both teams - I make Redcar the favourites, however it is a lot closer between the teams than many may think - Diamonds have got quite a few who can have good meetings at Redcar - and Ulrich might just come back tobite us big time. However the most important aspect is the fact that we finally have a major final between these two sides - lets make it a great event and show the rest of the Championship the passion we have in the North east, this is great for both promotions - and whilst we all know both clubs have some "supporters" who will view this as an opportunity to "have a go" at the opposition and their fans, I sincerely hope the true speedway supporters in each club will get behind their team, but show respect to the opponents and applaud good riding by all riders, whatever colours they are wearing3 points

You are right actually, the entertainment part hadn't crossed my mind. Without Heeps we would have hardly seen anything entertaining at all at Foxhall. A good reason for me to say, excellent point Arch, and an excellent reason for keeping him for next season. You have changed my mind.3 points

This thread shouldn't be happening until after the play offs, not right! Just support your play off final team, there's the whole close season for saying who you'd keep and wouldn't keep!!!!3 points

Couldn't be called Middlesborough, as there is no such place as Middlesborough. There is a Middlesbrough though. Hope that explains why Lester fans asked the question.3 points

Dan put him on ignore and don’t reply to him then we won’t have to read his drivel3 points

Klindt could well move to Foxhall.........bit like football where a player shows form for a smaller club before moving on to a bigger club3 points

Yeah, offering a 4 time World Champion who rightfully qualified before his wife's illness sure does 'make a mockery'. He deserves a place until it's proven he isn't up to it anymore.2 points
-
Why Hancock? I am just amazed everyone saying he is a banker... judging by the Monster PR stunt of bringing him to Cardiff, he may well be offered a place but if that happens it makes a mockery of the sport. It would be a 'mates gift sentimental wildcard', not based on sporting justification. He's 50, he's missed a season and as of a couple of weeks ago he could not even say if he would be able to ride. If he is offered a wildcard, he needs to be given a deadline to commit to be fair to any replacement.2 points

Well done Bartosz. I hope Emil learns how to race in the semi finals (had first pick 6 times and never won a semi final all season). Had the most points in the qualifying heats all season (Emil 108, Bartosz 103 and Leon 96).2 points

Tatum's slurring and spluttering has picked up with Pearson's shouting, if it goes down to the final I might have to switch off the volume.2 points

Madsen blew it this year when the nerves got him in Denmark. If he had had even a decent gp in Voyens he would have probably have been World Champion this year. A much more accomplished looking rider than helium boy.2 points

I thought the discussion might be more on whether I'd actually placed Jack Parker high enough The winner of the sport's premier event in both 1934 and 1947 (including toppling the "unbeatable" Duggan in the '47 final). One of the top riders for a long, long time. Made the Match-Race Championship his own personal property for a number of years.2 points

Mickthemuppet did compare Williams and Craven. He said Freddie beat PC far more often. That was when I noted PC was 8 years younger and a rising star at the time. For me wrong to do that , and even more so if mick had mainly for instance seen their clashes at Wembley rather that Belle Vue. All distorts the impression2 points

I'm guessing this must be the first time ever that a thread on the Speedway Forum has moved into other interesting discussions not directly related to the original op.2 points

I met Billy a few times, and he seemed a really nice guy. I tell you though, if you never saw him without a shirt, you have no idea just how muscular he is! I wouldn't want to upset him...1 point

Jim Airey - Sunderland 'Saints' 1964. Graem Smith - Sunderland 'Stars' 1972/73. Jack Millen. Sunderland 'Stars' 1972/73. Just my favourite Riders for my Club - Sunderland of blesséd memory.1 point

Well done Bartoz, deserved the title and has entertained us throughout the series. Was surprised at the Woffy stat, only 2 GP race wins this season before tonight, didn't realise it had been such a poor return even allowing for the injury lay off.1 point
-
FFS why does Pearson have to confuse with his weird scoring comments. Just before heat 20, if Bartosz wins this then Madsen will need to do X,Y,Z. Why not wait 60 seconds until after the race when you have the hear result and then say what Madsen needs to do.1 point
-
You know, I'm really not sure about this watering tonight. With a greasy and patchy surface, surely that isn't helping Zmarzlik, particularly with his style of riding.1 point

A field of great speculation of course, who would have won the War Time championships. Vic Duggan, Jack Parker, Eric Langton, Cordy Milne, Tommy Price, Eric Chitty....all arguably would have been at their peak during that period.1 point

The one possible problem is that they have three big meetings on consecutive nights but I think this is their best chance of silver wear this season.1 point

Those I’ve seen: 1. Peter Craven 2. Peter Collins 3. Michael Lee 4. Tai Woffinden 5. Mark Loram 6. Gary Havelock Wish the list was longer, but then I’d be even older than I am now If Jack Parker qualifies, I did see him ride at Hackney in 1978, so he would creep in at no.7 as he didn’t look that good1 point
-
Yes, I take your point, but the problem here is that riders like Price and Williams didn't have the same opportunities as modern day riders like Woffinden, or even Collins, to ride in other top level events as there weren't any. One of the difficulties in comparing riders from different eras. Also the league in the late 40s and early 50s did contain all the world's top riders of the day, so, in a way, league averages were probably much more important in those days as a comparison between riders. And, in fact, my earlier post was only a comparison between Price and Williams and my attempt to explain why I would place Price above Williams.1 point

Redcar & Cleveland Council said they had to incorporate the name Redcar into the team team when they first submitted the planning permission, if my memory serves me correctly (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm incorrect))1 point

Still lap two though. Wasn't there, but following the updates I thought it strange to give a 1-5 on second lap. Was Stewart that far behind the Lions pair?1 point
-
Heard before, that the leading rider was approaching his 3rd lap, (bend 4 lap 2),,, so race awarded.1 point
-
We had seats about 6 rows from front on bend 1+2 great seats, they put a black banner over 1st 8 rows or so, from what I saw would have good views from anywhere, but high up a bit away, only paid £24 for our seats1 point

The standard of riders in the PL has dropped year on year for many years. Generally, the average of riders returning after being absent for a number of years should be increased, not reduced because their average was attained when the standard was higher. However, as I have said many times, the most sensible way is to give them an average based on their average in whichever foreign league(s) they have most recently ridden. It would be easy to devise a formula to convert averages for each foreign league to an assessed PL average. That would, overnight, do away with those who come here when relatively inexperienced, don't ride here for a few years, improve significantly and then return on their original low average and cater for those who have not ridden here for a few years but are on a downward spiral in the twilight of their careers and realistically, wouldn't achieve their past PL average.1 point

Why have season ticket holders been short changed, and why make this statement as a non Aces fan who clearly has no idea what value Aces season tickets are? To put you straight I have a season ticket and I have got every single match that was stated my ticket included this season. Please think before you post ridiculous and quite frankly slanderous, factually incorrect comments.1 point
