  1. Really annoys me when I read "residents concern over noise level", The track was there before they bought their new home. If they had any concerns then WHY buy your new home where you know there will be noise from sports.

  2. As a Redcar fan. I hope Newcastle do not finish bottom of the league, we need Northern teams to be up where we belong, at the top.

  4. The 1-7 isn’t the team I would have picked but at the end of the day surely it’s not just about wether the averages fit but if the finances fit as well. I’m not having a go at what other supporters think the team should have been but no one knows what the club has had to pay to secure the services of both Robert and Cookie and surely there has to be a limit as to what the club can pay out in wages. Personally if it was a choice of spending silly money and winning the league or have what I call a reasonable team and be still have a team to support every week I would chose reasonably good team every time. Having said it’s not the team I would have picked I do believe that every rider can easily up their 2019 average and I’ll be there every week supporting the team 100%

  5. Hans is not the rider he was and probably will never be again. But on his current average it would be madness not to sign him.

  7. Again, how many sports pride themselves on such meaningful names as "Best Pairs", "Revenge World Championship", "Overseas Final", and "Speedway of Nations"?

  8. FIM used to present medals at all their events, not sure if they still so but as they have run offs for their events I assume they do! I am still pretty sure the 1968 and the 1969 Pairs are NOT recognised as World Finals. But as I said before, I would like to be proven wrong. I have BOTH programmes and they mention World Championship nowhere!

  10. he broke a shoulder in Denmark but came back too quickly to ride in the GP quakifer at GLasgow. Won his first heat but stopped in his 2nd as the pain was too much. Then had a terrible crash where he hit his head bad at Peterborough and came back too soon before making a hole in the back straight fence at the same track I doubt he rode many meetings without injury or lack of confidence. All 3 were big offs.

  11. Yes, which means it went from official to unofficial and then seemingly back to official again! I think it's only a few years ago that they decided that 1969 was official after all! Like Steve, I'm sure I saw it somewhere - would be interesting to know where! Mauger always included it in his tally - as far as he was concerned, he had the medal so it counted!

  12. Interestingly, Peter Oakes book, "The Complete History of the British League", has this in reverse. He says, "The 1969 World [Pairs] Final is no longer recognised by the FIM even though gold medals were awarded at the time."

  13. Hartel deserves a chance, but I would of probably gone with Spud Summers, who knows all the tracks from the off, and would be a a very solid reserve. Looking at the finished team, i'm not impressed tbh. TJ, Erik and Lewis averaged just 13.18 between them on the road, but a big 21.68 at home. What do they do... Keep them all. Replace MPT with Ty and bring in Hartel. Looks like they have no ambition at all. The engine room will be the problem again away from the AFA. Away from home, if Lambert and Cookie get 20 between them( they didn't last season), Erik, TJ and Lewis get last seasons 13, that's 33 from the top 5. Don't leave us much chance on the road.. again. Our top 2 are ok and the reserves should be ok, with scope to change if needed. For me it's the engine room again... I hope i'm proved wrong, but I was bang on before a wheel had turned last season, in saying the Stars will get nothing on the road. I will still go, pick n choose my meetings, and I wish them all the best. I'll try and cheer up by this evening

  14. Even with a ten point start in every meeting, Newcastle will finish bottom comfortably - I hope they don't get too battered as their notoriously fickle fans will just stay away...

  15. Fixture lists will be released in next few weeks I believe - will be some really exciting early season action to look forward to with the proposed test match GB Vs Rest of the World (featuring Nicki P maybe?), then we have the GP Qualifier in May (who would you like to see at Glasgow?) and, of course, the now annual slaying of the Monarchs too - bring it on!

  23. Given that their first matches probably won't be until May, I'd think they've got enough time -- and enough spare riders about -- to build a team.

  27. Never use to be.Back in the day so to speak everyone use to like coming to Lynn because there was always a chance of getting an away win.Only when it became really grippy did we get plenty of advantage as away riders couldn't cope and basically bottled it.By all accounts they are making it less grippy next season. Will this go against our home advantage?

  30. What we have to remember is, it is the team you finish the league with rather than the one you start with (Swindon 2019). However the key issue here is that changes are made soon enough to rectify any deficiencies.

  33. I think i would have rather had someone like Mountain or Kemp and spent the remaining point/s elsewhere. I wouldn't have have had Kerr, Jorgensen, Proctor or Hartel in the team. Out of the riders last year, MPT would have been better being retained than Jorgensen/Proctor/Kerr imo.

  34. I‘ve said the same on the stadium thread in the “General” section. Irony being that GI are responsible for the lack of semi-viable alternative/rival in Reading. The option of a ”direct hotline to the stadium for noise complaints”....absolutely laughable.

  35. Will barely score a point on the road and there are at least 2 teams that will win at the AFA. Imo the worst team announced so far. Very underwhelming and disappointing.

  36. STATEMENT by Maksym Drabik's club - Sparta WROCLAW WTS Sparta Wrocław declares that it is aware of the explanatory proceedings conducted by POLADA against Maksym Drabik. However, we emphasize that no unauthorized substances have been detected in the rider’s body. POLADA did not suspend the competitor, it only asked for additional explanations in connection with the competitor's statement made during the doping control about taking substances hydrating the body a few days before the competition. This action was coordinated by a club doctor and was dictated by the state of health of the speedway rider. We declare full cooperation with POLADA in order to complete the proceedings as soon as possible. The club will not refer to media speculations or comment on matters until the investigation is completed.

  38. Fair point but only problem is that these days his starting is indifferent and he finds himself chasing more often than not. That was great in 2006 when a fast barnstorning Andersen would cut through an intimidated opposition with ease at the EoES (y'know, I'm a GP star coming through and that's the safety fence, would you care to throttle off or fall off ) but these days he is not particularly fast or intimidating. I did watch speedway at the EoES in 2020 when it was on (each week, I do indeed remember those days ) and as Andersen's confidence grew he seemed to think that he was the 2006 vintage and looked like an accident waiting to happen, as indeed it did. He's still just about worth a punt but hopefully Johnson has a plan b when Andersen is absent in 2020.

  39. I would agree that Hartel should be given a chance but the bare facts suggest this team will struggle unless changes are made or the riders improve a lot on what they achieved last season.

  41. Yes I have read it, but unfortunately it contains a lot of nonsense . Even the photograph of the Buffalo Stadium is wrong. It pictures the "old" Velodrome Buffalo, at Neuilly-sur-Seine, which was used only for cycle races from its inauguration in 1893 until it ceased operations during the First World War. But the motorcycle dirt-track racing never took place there, it took place in the Stade-Velodrome Buffalo, at Montrouge, which was a big multi sports stadium in Paris, built in 1922, that also hosted football, and rugby, as well as cycle races on a steeply banked concrete cycle track around the outer perimeters of the cinders track, which surrounded the rugby football pitch. It could accommodate 20,000 spectators. After the war the stadium even hosted stock car races. The Stadium was demolished in 1957. To give You an indication of how the Buffalo Stadium ("Stade-Vélodrome Buffalo") looked like in the 1930s here is a picture taken during a football match there.

  42. Personally I cannot think of ONE genuine reason why Reading couldn't race NL matches at Swindon! Utter madness by the BSPA! I'm almost embarrassed to call myself a speedway fan at times like these!

  45. Missing the bit about the money that 'seems to have evaporated into thin air'. It you must try to be sarcastic and make a point to someone, try bravely to make it to the person or persons concerned. Instead of trying your usual pathetic attempt to have a go from sitting at your computer. What did Worky do to deserve you as a 'supporter'.

  46. Looks like a Monarchs v Motherwell meeting, but part the way through it seems a couple of rider are wearing Ashfield Giants colours. Recognise Jack Young ,and some kids copying their heroes at the end. Great film https://movingimage.nls.uk/film/5853

  47. Sorry to bang on about this but I've been discussing this with my other half. The more we talked, the less I can understand the thinking that went into this policy. Despite the many and various bad opinions of the ruling body, often voiced at length on here, I do try, at least, to have some empathy for it's position. But sorry, on this occasion, I have not the first idea of the logic behind this crazy stance by those in charge. If the promoters, collectively, are trying to destroy racing in the third tier, this is a good first step.

  48. I would have thought that a league with the word development in it's title, would welcome any opportunity for more youngsters to enter the sport. And retaining a homeless fan base, albeit a small one, is surely desirable.

  49. Given his accident, and time out of the sport, there would be a case for a reduced average. As it is he is unfit to ride speedway because of his injury. The point that you have missed again is that Dandelion is joking that it would need Kenni on say a 4 to make the Diamonds to be threatening. Keep taking ya tablets.
