And this is exactly why hardly anyone takes speedway as a serious sport. One big fat farce after another. And they wonder why fans keep walking away.6 points

Jack isn’t very good at Ipswich. Last time in the play off semifinal he faked injury so Poole could use R/R in his last two rides. trouble was he limped on the other leg he claimed firstly a toe injury and then it was his knee. more chance of Ritchie Hawkins riding at Edinburgh than holder at foxhall3 points

I think the majority of fans that still attend are partially,,,, some fully brain washed.....and will put up with and turn up and watch anything. I've seen nothing from my club promoter condeming Holder,,,, but I guess he cant,,, cos a favour was done for us last week?? Which is why at the time I said we should have had 2 juniors,,, to stop this happening3 points

It's a bleeding joke!! GB has international priority for Thursday and Holder is prioritising a REARRANGED polish meeting on supposed travel grounds Should be no facility for this CHOICE3 points

It would be interesting to see where the viewing audience geographically came from. The streaming company will have this from their analytics but it would be good to know how many away fans tuned in. I would also be interested in watching some of Glasgow's away matches if live streaming was available.3 points

A few of us travelled up from Plymouth, well worth all the rain just to watch Bjarne and Jason (Bjarne was out standing) the rest of the Gladiators put a lot of effort in but could not get off the line! A lot more yet to come from Jason, still a very polished rider (every Scunthorpe rider was giving 110 % to try and beat him)!! First away meeting, first meeting as a team. Flint put 110 % effort in well done and thank you for standing in. The Scunthorpe team had there set up right plus had track time in so had the edge. Fingers crossed the young riders in the Plymouth team get a fair chance to show what they can do. Yes the track been better.3 points

There is actually another way to do it to try and protect a facility. Dumbarton supporters owned a ‘ransom strip’ round their old ground and when the ground was sold off for development they were able to secure a new built ground on the outskirts of the town as part of the deal. Edinburgh Accies are trying to do the same but their case is more difficult because it’s historical and Scotland’s positive prescription laws could come into play. I always saw it as worth looking at though. It won’t ultimately stop a club loosing its home but could be the difference between surviving elsewhere and going out of existence obviously that’s no help for clubs already lost though3 points

your right mate track is a shadow of its former self . you would never of got 4 riders hugging the kerb in heat 15 a few years ago they would of been passed easily by riders on the dirt line which is not there at the moment.3 points

Holder is not riding in Poland until Friday May 28th start time 2030 local and it’s not re-arranged.2 points

If clubs are having such difficulty in putting out seven man teams, why did they not bite the bullet and have six or five man teams and make up the evening with the junior league teams. They had an opportunity to do something different but failed to show any initiative and yet the owners, promoters, managers and racing officials continue to treat the punter with such contempt and as long as the minority put up with this, they will carry on regardless. The majority have long since walked away from this farce.2 points

We still have a few days before we start complaining about the Scunthorpe match.2 points

What about promotions of the other clubs,,, have they got any balls to say oi Sheffield no. Or what about the refs or whoever else gets a say. Anyone? Usual case of best interests of the sport. As Jim Royle would say..... Sport my arse2 points

Rain off time...? It says he isn't available due to a rearranged fixture in Poland... Surely that means the UK have priority? Isn't that a 28 day ban if he doesn't ride over here?2 points

The fact that no speedway promoter has come forward at this stage probably tells us what we need to know.2 points

It's good to get one meeting on but what's the long term solution here? From what I've read in the Star over the past couple of weeks and in the local press it's a bit of a worry. The only thing that makes sense to me is for Stadia UK to forfeit their lease if they don't intend to use it as a sporting venue. If Stadia UK are still operating the venue how does it work bringing in staff to replace ones that have been made redundant regardless of who's paying them? Now that the dogs are gone could there now be room for Poole Town to return to the stadium and share with the Speedway? I realise that the track would need to be moved as there's not currently enough room. That would be the ideal solution to me, with the council as the landlord. It seems though that there are plans to develop the whole site though and it all sounds a bit like the Swindon situation to me and frankly I fear the worst.2 points

It used to be the best track when it had plenty of dirt on it..certain riders a few years ago requested it to be slick and smooth and it hasn’t changed since2 points

Perfectly acceptable then that Kent were allowed R/R, here`s me thinking there was something iffy.2 points

Interesting question....just who do the FIM and FIME think that they are, daring to have their meetings at weekends? Don't they know that we British have three teams, yeah, count them, THREE teams, who these pesky World and European tournaments interfere with. How dare they! About time the FIM and FIME got their priorities straight. Because WE say so, innit?1 point

I find it unusual these comments we are seeing. I have spoken at length to staff at the stadium and they still are looking at ways of using the arena. But you already know this.1 point

i believe if gaming international gave up the lease it would revert to the council who would sell it of to the highest bidder just my opinion of course1 point

you ought to ring the stadium and get george edwards phone number .unless of course you already have it and get maybe another version of your story .1 point

As has been said, Mx got stopped by the local housing group. The leader of that group? None other than former Poole Co-Promoter Terry Chandler!1 point

I'm assuming you mean the Ringwood Raceway at Matchams park? I think this would be a non starter. I don't even know who operates it now but the area has been hemmed in by high end housing since the days it was used as a training track in the 70's. The Moto X track has been closed due to noise issues I believe so I don't think permission would be given for speedway. It's probably about 10 - 15 miles or so from Poole but in a different county. Poole's biggest asset is its town centre location but unfortunately that makes the land more valuable for other purposes.1 point

I did make the trip to Perry Barr in '71. It was later in the season, Sunderland the opposition. A comfortable home win accompanied by a Silver Helmet matchrace won by Arthur Browning. My recollection is of a large crowd and a good night's entertainment. I always enjoyed the visit as a Wolves supporter. A particular memory was Hans Nielsen's first visit in his first season. Was he 16 or 17? Anyway he faced a tac sub in heat 8 and shocked all by gating first and riding with an air of confidence and determination to take the win. That was the first time I Thought he could go a very long way! The wheels project was not the same and the loss of Perry Barr was a big disappointment.1 point

No live streaming that I’m aware of, but may be irrelevant given the weather in the past few days and Tuesday’s iffy forecast.1 point

Perish the thought that the rubbish show that is British speedway couldn’t use some of the TV money to invest in a set of track covers. They’ve leaned nothing from 20+ Years of being on TV1 point

No, he wasn't. And in fact, not even as a "stand-bye reserve". Grobauer rode for Landshut in the Polish Division 2 on Friday, but not at Pardubice on Saturday. Huckenbeck's replacement for this FIME meeting was the Slovenian Matic Ivacic, and the reserve riders on Saturday were a couple of Czechs, #17 Eduard Krcmar and #18 Hynek Stichauer. Grobauer wasn't there at all.1 point

I know it was always Wolves vs Belle Vue to be the planned TV fixture what I meant was when this got rained off on Sunday, Eurosport planned to switch their broadcast to Peterborough hence why it appeared on the Sky EPG/ Tv Guide for a while yesterday, however the forecast is not brilliant for today and there has been a lot of rain over the last few days so a decision was made to not broadcast any meetings this week1 point

Yipes how long ago!!! ... a group of us came up from Wolves for that one. Mega night. You will be telling me next that Bob Dylan is 80 today!!1 point

What happened to the plan for track covers? Didn't Berwick use them quite successfully on several occasions? There are still a great many meetings called off due to 'damage done' well in advance of tapes up time, with the day/night of the meeting completely clear of rain... Wouldn't using the TV money now provided to buy covers be a good way of improving the long term success of the sport? TV companies pay a lot of set up money out to show live sport so would much prefer a higher chance of it taking place I would think. (Especially when covering such sports that can be rain impacted).. Covers may help gain further contracts as well as providing "unsure" fans with more confidence to attend... The last TV contracts didn't appear to produce any tangible lasting improvements to the sport so maybe this one can?1 point

Like everything else the ERW track surface has a lifespan & each time its prepared & raced on compacts the surface just a little more until it cannot compact anymore. That is where it is now, The moisture will not stay in the surface because it just can't penetrate the crust that has become so hard & thick. The only way to revive it is to cut it up & relay it with fresh clay content, it takes time & effort to bring it back & for a while the racing will suffer & there will be complaints from all sides but the end result is worth it1 point

Unfortunately most riders want slick tracks these days1 point

He was class his first heat if I remember correctly he was leading then got shunted to third and then his craft and skill got himself back into the lead for a deserved win1 point

Isn’t Berwick stadium owned by the football supporters club? It makes you wonder why fans within speedway circles don’t pursue some kind of share ownership in a similar way1 point

But that is 100% the frustrating issue... It clearly isnt an 'impossible situation' to run the sport properly.. Running with three riders you 100% know will be missing is 'self inflicted' nonsense.. As is every meeting they run on nights which mean guests when the FIM already have a meeting in place.. And invariably on 'FIM nights' the missing riders are the better ones who, by definition of being at that qualifier or final, should have been one of the 'main fan attractions' at the league meeting.. The promoters will no doubt argue when in their own 'echo chambers', that... "No one in the stadiums complain about the make up of the teams". And that may be 100% factual, however.. Its the 80% empty terracing at the vast majority of tracks that they should "listen" to.. That "deafening silence" from those who still keep a keen interest in the sport, but are no longer prepared to pay out their hard earned to UK Speedway, is the 'noise' they should be listening to and learning from.. As has already been mentioned, this year was always going to have some 'travel chaos', (you didnt need some superhuman psychic skills to predict that)... So therefore why run with their usual operating model when it was so obvious huge logistical challenges would exist? Why still run with 7 man teams? Why still run with a plethora of overseas riders? And, if running a wider NDL league as they have planned, why not instead do a combined level league using an amalgam of British based Championship/NDL level riders, rather than run the two leagues seperate, (which no doubt will result in even more fixture clashes where riders have to be in 'two places at once').. Not 'impossible situations' at all... Just more of the same self inflicted nonsense which has gone on well before the pandemic, and no doubt, will continue a long time after..1 point

No different to all the other rising stars! Yes they were swapped around and that was cause Rowe was getting stuck in and producing the goods. Kemps had plenty of publicity but needs now to do his talking on the track. Rowes had little publicity but certainly looks the better bet.1 point

Not in the rule book and the league co- ordinater was , allegedly, not consulted , the powers that be simply stated ‘ it is in the best interests of the sport ‘ which is the mafias get out clause for everything they want to do.1 point

Well Brum offered Berwick to change the dates like Edinburgh and Newcastle did but Berwick declined so what could Brum do apart from choose guests which they were entitled to do1 point

Certainly seems to have worked for Leicester if the attendances quoted on their thread are accurate.. ie drop down, stop paying out for GP riders and stop having to ride mid week to accommodate them. Net result? Larger crowds at weekends watching (due to the amount of DU's), a great many of exactly the same riders they would have seen riding anyway if they had stayed at the 'top level'..1 point
