  1. Of course it’s pathetic. The criteria they used before to justify was an increase in infections x increase in hospital admissions x increase in deaths. What we currently have is less than half a person with Covid per hospital, yesterday we had 5 deaths, just a few weeks ago we had days with no deaths. Therefore there is not even a hint of a 3rd wave. The vaccine is protecting those who are vulnerable, Covid is currently the 9th biggest killer in the UK, yes 9th. There is no science that backs up the need to extend these ridiculous restrictions. There should never be a need for another lockdown ever again, however I’m sure the government will justify it somehow. Winter will always see an increase in deaths from viruses. The flu kills thousands every year. Do we lockdown or wear masks for those? People going abroad will bring new variants back to the UK. So yet again more threats of a new outbreak. It will never end. Even Boris said ‘at some stage we will have to learn to live with it’. That time is now. Or when do we wait till? infections will stay higher the more people socialise, that is completely NORMAL. So long as hospital don’t see an increase and deaths increase again then this is all perfectly normal. So yes, this extension is totally pathetic, backed up by no science whatsoever.

  2. I think it’s time for everyone to get together and try their best to to save this speedway club! Forget about who sacked who, the team is too weak I’m not going and all that crap it’s pretty clear now that speedway might just end for good in Newcastle come on everybody do what you can to save this great club make a donation buy a ticket for Sunday every little helps.

  3. Can fully understand Jitendras decision, if it’s affecting his mental health and personal life he has to do what’s best for him. He has been a fantastic “face” of Redcar Speedway over the last few years and the improvements to the club, both on and off the track, are a testament to all his hard work. Good luck and thank you.

  6. Apart from the meeting. That line would work if they used him in heat 13/15 when all was dead and buried but not heat 1! Shows no ambition to win from the off

  7. It is unfortunate that thousands of people have died, many of these have died with covid though instead of from covid. The stats worry so many people but it is very misleading as usual from the Government. There are many, many more people dying from other illnesses now as a result of all of this.Plus the more people that are suffering from mental illnesses as a result of these lockdowns. My heart op was delayed by 7 months, how many more people have had ops delayed and may have died as a result of this.

  8. Because the alternative is a five team league! Try thinking about the whole sport instead of following the BSPL normal policy of only thinking about the track they run / you support.

  9. Local derbies between Oxford, Reading and Swindon. Great rivalry. Second Halves at Cowley with the riders from Eastbourne & Peterborough taking part. Trips to Eastbourne on a Sunday afternoon preceded with a picnic at Beachy Head. Teams predominantly filled with English/British riders with the odd exotic foreigner thrown in. Trips to White City after school on a Wednesday much to the jealousy of some of my class mates..."What going to London tonight?" Being able to mix with the riders in the pits after the meeting attempting to collect autographs. Adding to my vast programme collection by visiting the souvenir shops on my travels. Riders in easily recognisable leathers, helmets, masks etc. Simple race jackets before they became emblazoned with sponsors etc. Bikes prior to silencers and that throaty roar and the smell of Castrol 'R'. Riders who became associated with a team before yearly 'merry go rounds' became the norm and averages dicatated the make-up of a team. Interval rides for children with their favourites. Telephone at the starting gate allowing 'interaction' with the referee in front of the fans.

  10. A thoroughly enjoyable meeting with some cracking racing on a lovely hot evening. From comments afterwards it’s clear Eurosport we’re well pleased with their first production at the Showground as were Kelvin and Nigel. It was nice to see Pedersen and Bomber step up their performances this week but as others have said it was a very solid looking all round team effort which ensured the Wolves went home with nothing despite the heroics from Becker and Douglas. As for the comments regarding Palin being pulled out of his last ride, that’s exactly what Rob Lyon is their for, to ensure Wolves wasn’t allowed to get anything back from the meeting and it’s clear Lyon knows what he is doing and does it very well. A thoroughly professional all round team performance and up to second in the league table. Not bad for a Dads Army so far.

  12. OK if you are a football fan a tennis fan a cricket fan or a Formula 1 fan. Attendance to those sports in your tens of thousadnds gives you a "Covid Shield" and not a risk to a thrid wave of infections overloading our NHS. 1,000 peaople at a speedway meeting however is a grave risk to overloading the NHS and causing a spike in infections and a dangerous third wave surge. What a load of BS from Blonde Boris the BS king.

  14. You're right, of course. But many clubs are running close to edge. Any barrier, perceived or actual, to "going to the speedway" can be financially critical.

  17. NDL wouldn't be sustainable at Newcastle for the reasons you have put... the fixed costs would kill it... rent; medical; security etc... the way speedway is going if you don't have your own stadium its not sustainable unless you can guarantee the crowds which are also dying on their proverbial backsides so what can the promotion do? they cant go out and drag people in off the streets and then you will have the "I really miss the Speedway now its gone" brigade spouting off on here... well if you don't attend that's what happens as I have been through this before with Workington... people need to get off their backsides and come along... buy a ticket and give this new promotion a chance... if you sit back and wait for a final of some description like many fair-weather Worky fans did rolling up for finals and packing the place out for one night but not bothering throughout the rest of the year is no good... if you don't buy stuff from a corner shop it shuts that's business I'm afraid... So Ice the job until July 19th and then give it a go... but will one of the restrictions that remains in place after this date be track and trace rules so everyone has to sign in or use an app on there phone; or will it still be on line booking... its just another hurdle to put people off to me but the situation isn't very good at all... and I am only guessing what might happen but I cant honestly see the government just saying on July 19th... Jobs a good un people fill ya boots everything is back to normal... carry on regardless!!! Regards THJ

  18. I made a couple of trips to Exeter in the 1970s. Leaning over the fence on the home straight as Ivan Mauger came straight towards me is probably the best thing I ever experienced at Speedway.

  20. And after this season we're going to be relying on this shower to provide all British matches plus the SGP and SON. They can't eve be trusted to show the SEC! Their schedule for Wednesday - Channel 1 - 1800 - Look back at 2012 Olympics, followed by recoded highlights of Italian cycling. Channel 2 - 1800 - Recorded highlights of the shooting world cup followed by recorded highlights of the French Open tennis. It's clear that they are trying to prise extra payments from existing subscribers by way of forcing then to take 0ut an extra sub to their wretched Eurosport Player. With their appalling record regarding highlights - just showing the final hour uncut despite their pious promises I can see serious problems ahead. Now they've got their hands on the Premiership Abi was repeatedly telling us about all the lovely motorcycle racing that we are obviously desperate to watch. They simply do not get it that speedway is very much apart from other motorsports with a very distinct audience. Forget Superbikes, I want to see all the speedway events that they are signed up to. Still, they gave the BSPL and the FIM nice cheques (okay bank transfers) so s*d the fans...... Their past record has shown they are not a safe pair of hands. I, like many, were hoping they'd changed. They clearly haven't, and extra talking at Premiership meetings does nothing to paper over the yawning cracks.

  25. Over exaggerated cough that No.10 is prepared to ruin businesses over. UK Cases - 4.57 Million UK Deaths - 128,000 As I said earlier far far far more likely to recover than die from yet people are prepared to support businesses going under for this rubbish. Country needs to grow a set and go back to normal again rather than running scared of the sniffles.

  27. This not being able to pay at the gate rule is confusing me. We were at Edinburgh last Friday and I'm sure most people were paying on the gate. Leicester say you must buy your tickets in advance. Scunthorpe only recommend it. I assume there may be national rules but it appears individual clubs in England are either making their own rules or they are dictated to by the local authority. Edit: P.S. We've already bought our tickets online for Sunday's match

  29. It seems that Boris & Co. are following Humph's example of using % increases to amplify their figures. One of the slides shown had a starting figure of 3 per 100,000. the next figure was 5, so it transposed as a 66% rise!

  30. It is pathetic. Over exaggerated cough that you're far more likely to recover from than die. Yet people want to ruin busineeses over it. Anyone would think we live in Gaza the way No.10 are going on.

  31. You could still get really close to the fence in the 1990s at Exeter. Not the biggest star, but David Steen was exciting to watch around the County Ground. If you picked the right spot coming out of the fourth bend, he would drift and straighten up right at the last second before whistling past inches from you.

  32. Why are Wolves allowed to delay fixtures by 4 weeks? If the whole league stops for 4 weeks, this will ruin the momentum that the Panthers have built up.

  33. If you wish to sit together then the 6 tickets need to be purchased together by one person. Then get the others to PayPal/transfer their tickets money to you. As for whether the fixture will take place, we will have to wait and see. To be honest I would rather the club shut up shop until the end of July than see then lose money every meeting with reduced attendances. Club sustainability and survival must come first.

  46. Think that was one of the great things from those days, in that the speedway world outside of the country was fairly unknown and there was always a new discovery who would seemingly appear from nowhere Of course one of the big things of this era was the arrival of the American riders on the UK scene

  47. Supporters club coach away trips (even the ones where we broke down) Foreign riders felt genuinely exotic (with the 70s seeing the Danes and Americans going from nowhere to world beaters in the space of a decade) Most of your team re-signing for the following season The roar of the crowd during an exciting race (as opposed to today when all you get is the tutting of your nearest neighbour on the terraces 10 metres away) The ability to go to a different track every night without travelling the entire length of the country (my 1974 holiday itinery - 6 tracks in 7 days all within an hour's drive of our Coventry base)

  48. All the very best for the future Tom. Been a pleasure knowing and watching your progress. Achieving competitive rides across all 3 leagues is something many dream of. Sadly injuries have taken their toll and potentially even higher heights. Enjoy your retirement and thanks for the memories. I shall miss Bacon rolls from the updates.
