What a cracking afternoon. Sunny weather, decent crowd in, track in good nick, and Covid restrictions didn't affect enjoyment of what was a close and competitive meeting. I hope we will see more of the same next weekend.6 points

Cracking win for the boys, well done to them all! Our team might not be as good as some other teams but you can never fault their effort. They are improving each week and a sterling performance from Steve was always going to help. Hopefully the stay away fans will return now we have proven we can win and will beat some teams at home over the course of the season. Bjarne being back at brough next week will also hopefully help get a few more back.5 points

Excellent result for the Diamonds. Good choice of guest and all riders (apart from JPB) contributing. Team looks weak on paper but they all ride Brough Park well and will make it tough for most teams who go there. Sad to see Ty a shadow of his former self. Hopefully this will bolster the chances of the club continuing this season. Last thing we need is to lose another club.5 points

Would have been long odds on Glasgow and Leicester not winning a single league point today!! Well done Scorpions and Diamonds5 points

Absolutely. Ironic he’s a Lions asset. Any chance of a trade swapping him for Proctor? (I know, “Dream on”)3 points

Well that was great! what a find Connor Mountain looks like turning out to be3 points

Tofeek diddnt even set his own bike up. Said to the mechanic I've never been here set it up for me and I'll just ride the bike. Class above everyone else. What a meeting that was BTW. Always love my trips to Glasgow excellent set up. Well done everyone involved for a top night3 points

it suggests the opposite doesn't it? i.e. where do another 35 riders come from? Going back to 2019 double uppers were getting ave 28 PL and ave 26 CL matches (excl KOC and play offs). So an ave of 54 standard league matches. If there was one big league of 16 (although not all would be able to afford it) gives a rider an equivalent of 30 matches. That's almost half the chance to earn than before. Yes you could increase fixtures but would clubs want to change from c14 home meetings in 2019 to c27 home meetings give the riders the same amount of meetings? Could they even? It's an impossible mess and a totally predictable one at that.2 points

JPB was very impressive actually for his first competitive meeting at Brough for god knows how long, on the pace in his first 2 and then picked up decent points in his others... Looks like he'll be able to get properly stuck in once he gets used to the track... Well done for all 6 of the Diamonds tonight, cracking performance2 points

Great win for the diamonds, some good close racing, track was very dry which was to be expected great guest plus special mention to Connor Mountain who looks like a very good rider all in all a very entertaining match, anyone who choose to stay away maybe get ya arses back next week eh2 points

2+1 by Jack Parkinson-Blackburn each week is fine by me. I know one was gifted but did well with his other point and rode well all night. If he can get his gating boots on he can score a couple more points easily. Proctor was just pulling up at the back each race and strolling over the line. He was shocking and as you say shadow of what he was.2 points

4 duck eggs for Proctor today, 5 from 5 last night, when will Allitt put him out of his misery.Surely it's not doing the club or the rider himself any favours carrying on like this.2 points

Isn’t the point to give the young riders time to progress? We all knew that with so many coming in at once some would struggle. Especially the ones like Davies who have a new home track and don’t even get the luxury of being at reserve and heat 22 points

If we want speedway to be an international sport then these meetings have to be shared around. And without home representation most nations just wouldn't want to go ahead. Not ideal but it's something we have to accept. Personally I'd prefer 3 rounds with the top 5 from each. Feels more symmetrical and it reduces the risk of one pointless ride making qualification almost impossible (as Robert Lambert nearly found out last night). I'd also allocate some of the minnow nations places in a preliminary round to winnow out some of the chaff.2 points

Your memories of seeing Hans progress from a world class rider to a superstar has to be up there as one of your greatest memories Steve surely…?Personally was never a fan felt he was a bit of a gating tart quick but nothing else how WRONG was i i admit it got it badly wrong as i have done endless times on this forum. My memory of Hans is just how underated he was as a team rider helped endless riders progress his team riding with Dugard, Sorensen, Butler, Rasmussen, Wigg, stick in the mind.To have a rival like Erik pushing you beating you but you come out on top shows how strong his mentality was.His rivalry with Erik to me is like a same scenario as Briggs v Fundin Lendl v McEnroe, Holyfield v Tyson, Ali v Frazier, Senna v Prost .2 points

As my kids often tell me Addio on a regular basis( they take the mikey out of my memorabilia collection.) Dad you are living in the past the world moves on.Would not give up the memories for the world and endless members on this forum would agree with me.The biggest plus from the sport is that did quite a bit with my uncle and Dad which was great and my two boys who were both keen up until about 16 when girls and other interests took over.My biggest regret is not seeing Bjorn and the iconic PC ride my uncle did and told me his memories of them both he said they were capable of more world titles .The big five Ove, Briggo, Bjorn, Mirac, Peter ( later Ivan) has to be up there as the strongest era.Swindon we’ll have been blessed really Briggs, Crash, Kilb, Broady, Crump ( snr / son/ Scott, Leigh, Darcy ‘ Doyley, ( ect) been very. lucky other favourites are Wellie( Holloway) Clive Hitch, Shawn McConnell Per Sorensen, .Visiting riders the no 1s who were the stars for me what a treat to see a different one every week hence Mauger, Olsen, Boocock x2) Bettsy, Wilsonx2) Louis, Collins, Sjosten, Middleton,Janssonx2 Loftqvist, Sanders, Lovaas, Morton x2) Moore, ( ect) great days.2 points

Top night for British speedway. Just goes to show how riding in Poland is extremely beneficial. Fingers crossed for a televised final2 points

Don't think you can compare them. In last 14 years Kolodziej has been in top 20 of Polish league averages 13 times (the other was 2009 when his team were in liga 1). Lindback has managed that feat just twice, with a highest placing of 16th a position that Janusz has bettered 10 times, and on current form should make that 11 this year. And against much much tougher opposition Kolodziej has won 4 Polish national championships. Lindback has managed just 2 in Sweden.2 points

A lot of people are sitting thinking yeah yeah we’ve heard it all before. Seriously if people don’t attend IT WILL CLOSE AND SPEEDWAY WILL BE LOST. Just try asking any fan of say Workington,Hull,Reading,Newport or Rye House to name but a few if they’d like to watch their team. Think we know the answer. Don’t leave it to somebody else, get yourself to your track and support your team. Granted it’s not the best of teams but Christ we’re talking about 10 meetings or so. So what they’re not going win the league, but the noise the smell and the thrill of watching speedway nothing comes close to it.I know Covid restrictions are playing a massive part but as I’ve said previously Newcastle speedway are being told how to operate at the moment. So if you haven’t yet got your ticket you have until 1pm I think. Oh and Diamonds 46-44 Leicester2 points

Good to see several ex comets in the gp qualifier at Glasgow, a very good meeting Dan bewley won run off for last qualifier, also several comets fans spotted on the coverage2 points

They forecast that on Thursday which resulted in the King's Lynn v Sheffield meeting being called-off, yet what we got was quite minimal.2 points

6400 at the rangers game when they were in the 3rd division. Regardless of what percentage if you want to go get a ticket early . It’s really as simple as that. Some folk on here should thank their lucky stars they have seen and looks like continuing to see speedway when home fixtures are run. Clubs are closing and stopping racing all the time. With the amount of work put in by all associated with Berwick speedway maybe some should stop being a keyboard warrior and back them2 points

Which logically suggests we should have one league. Assuming it didn't reduce the number of meetings riders have which if done properly it wouldn't then i can't see an argument against it. Teams might have to cope with meetings not on their usual night but not the end of the world in most cases.1 point

I didn't think so: I've seen far fewer in for meetings pre-Covid. Of course there should be as large a crowd as possible but (perhaps in the light of what has happened in the week just gone) I thought it was reasonable today.1 point

People ask me what did I find different working in a University Department for 17 years and how it evolved? Put simply when I first started the group that I worked with would swap ideas seeking advice amongst themselves as regards their particular line of work/research...lots of banter. At the end of my career (albeit working with different people) the emphasis had changed dramatically. Computers had really taken hold and although some conversations took place the office had become much more quiet with people staring into computers with much less interaction taking place.1 point

Reading the press release I think Len was content to run against the football under normal conditions, but not when already under COVID restrictions.1 point

Open your eyes, the team was crap on paper, and crap on track, one’s still not turned up, and the top 4 have had 2 good meetings between them, Etheridge been steady enough, Gappmaier a couple better away performances but also a bad home one, and the less said about dumb and dumber at 1 and 5 the better… Bickley been absolutely fine, and Leon been fantastic. Coty needs replaced, and so does one of the top 2, they’re stealing a living fgs1 point

I'm a grass man and there are some fantastic riders who produce brilliant racing funded out of their own pocket. The problem is the fans turn up (that's if the stadium is open) week in week out and accept that the racing has to be done with foreign riders syphoning the life out of the British Leagues. While I accept the situation is very difficult the promoters should work harder instead of defaulting to foreign imports. There is nothing I'd like to see more than local riders doing something that they want to do and hopefully get paid doing it.1 point

How much trust you put in Wikipedia is up to you but here is the Wikipedia page for Berwick Rangers, it gives a capacity of 4099. If Berwick Speedway has to run with 25% capacity you have a crowd limit of just over a thousand, 50% of just over two thousand and so on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berwick_Rangers_F.C.1 point

I’d imagine you’d have to contact the club privately to find out such important information. They dont engage with fans on this forum, apparently.1 point

That's largely the case already. Nothing much of substance beyond raising the age limits, and just a lot of political headlining I think.1 point

You would be surprised how many riders would compete for just £10 a point if they knew that is what is on offer across the board. Expenses would be a must though given the current distances between tracks along with some sensible fixture planning so avoid as much midweek as possible. It may mean that some opt out but for the league to sensibly survive semi-amateur is the way forward as a pathway into the sport. Very few riders enter the NL expecting to make money, most are looking at some funds to help cover the losses for a season, if the pay is lower then riders will choose where else to edge out costs. Gate money can come down and just maybe crowds will start creeping up?1 point
-
Running the NDL as a professional league isn’t viable for most tracks. It should be expenses only - but then most of the riders wouldn’t compete I guess.1 point

Okay..... *take a deep breath* first of all... I’m not a Leicester fan.. my name clearly states that... but I’ve got a problem with this part of your post... You talk about the Thompson twins and how they dominated in their last season racing... they’re young laddies who have worked their way up to heatleader status in NDL and have taken a massive jump into championship level... with the top 5 you have, they should be 2 that are exempt from criticism. Now... “the overrated Flint”... are you having a laugh... that laddy has worked his way up and deserves every bit of praise that he is receiving and has rightfully earned the chance to ride in Poland for Rybnik. You need to remember that this is only his 2nd full season at championship level. He’s probably had to work harder than most due to his locality... Berwick now has the facilities for the youngsters in the north but Leon has had to travel many thousands of miles over his short years in this sport... he’s worked hard to build up sponsors... he’s completely changed the way he trained and his overall fitness level is second to none... he’s got a great team behind him and is quite frankly the brightest prospect to come from North Northumberland for quite some time! So quite frankly, “the overrated Flint” is quite an insult to what that lad has actually achieved!1 point
