  1. Must admit I have enjoyed the differing opinions on this thread.. Makes the forum what it should be.. Open and honest debate.. And having read so much of what has been said and discussed around what a nightmare Rob Grant found himself in, then I really hope the fans of Newcastle all turn out to support the club this weekend.. It would be great if all those 'flouting fans' who go now and again, but still closely follow the club, all made the deliberate effort to all attend this weekend.. Be a good boost for the Promotion I would think... NB. As an aside, I do think that the 'pay at the gate', 'stand where you want' message needs to pushed massively by all the tracks on their social media pages. Still lots of confusion out there from lots of people as to "the covid rules", so Speedway should be 100% hammering home that message..

  2. Just hope now all restrictions have been lifted the fans back Rob in numbers, and all this bull posting on here stops. If Rob does read this forum god knows what he's thinking. It will be no good moaning if there's no club to support if Rob did throw the towel in? So go and support the club.

  3. So now it’s 3 Bears, 3 guests and R/R for Redcar in a match that shouldn’t be taking place at all. Welcome to British Speedway.

  4. Still just happy to have speedway so I’m not really bothered about results this season. Hopefully we have a team next year.

  5. If you ask nicely you could probably be Newcastle Team manager - current incumbent must have outstayed welcome by now

  6. The nightmare that Rob Grant found himself in is extremely unfortunate. What is also unfortunate is the people who think that they can post on his behalf. If Rob has ok’d that then fine, it’s his business to destroy. I would like to think that he would be mortified. slagging on social media officially or by proxy is not the way to go. The past cannot be changed.

  7. It was in November 1960 that shock news was announced that the F.I.M., at its annual congress, had awarded the 1961 World Final to Sweden. Numbness turned to rage in the U.K. over the next few weeks, with stories in the media of a threatened boycott of the competition by the U.K., talk of withdrawal from the F.I.M. (and thereby from the A.C.U.) and going it alone with our own version of the championship. Some pointed out that through the dark days of the latter half of the 1950s it was only the payout from the Final that had kept the National League tracks afloat. It was even suggested by one personality (not identified) that the sport in this country should be run by the promoters themselves, as they virtually did so anyway - an interesting thought, but then in those days there were some extremely capable and astute business-minded people at certain tracks. Reports described how our leagues would be stronger without those foreign and commonwealth riders who still wished to be able to compete in their own countries, where the sport would continue to be controlled by the F.I.M. This was at a time when teams in the National League had been cut from 8 to 7 riders due a shortage, with a lot of ex-National and Southern Area League men having joined the growing Provincial League. Maybe a certain amount of press coverage was based on speculation and interpretation of the views of promoters may have been less than accurate at times. Nonetheless, the situation was uncomfortable for a few weeks until a sudden announcement that all had been resolved. The work behind the scenes had been ongoing throughout in all probability, with a view to inroducing something to alleviate the impact of the loss of Brtitish tracks' income from the Wembley final. The resolution, announced in mid-December, was that the UK would stage qualifying rounds leading to a British Final, from which 9 riders would qualify for the World Final. During November and early December stories had been published expressing the thoughts of at least one promoter that the final would be better staged away from Wembley in any event, at somewhere such as Wimbledon, due to the very high cost of hiring the stadium. It was argued that the cost of Wembley was 4 times higher than staging elsewhere and that all Wembley had going for it was prestige. Others pointed out that the cost might be less but so would the income from a much reduced attendance capacity elsewhere. It was emphasised that Ronnie Greene of Wimbledon was not the promoter putting forward arguments against Wembley. As things unfolded it became clear that the British Final would be staged at Wembley. This would offset the loss of the World Final to some extent, but the income from the event would undoubtedly be substantially less. In view of this the F.I.M. agreed to award a new competition to Britain, initially known as the Open European All-Star Championship, renamed as the Internationale before too long. With the British Final scheduled for the 'expensive' Empire Stadium, the final of the Internationale was allocated to Harringay, which was much more affordable and was also to stage the 1961 Provincial League Riders' Championship. Perhaps it was felt that holding two high profile meetings at Wembley just a few weeks apart was too high a risk financially. A lot of backtracking then took place, with people denying they ever had any intention of breaking away from the F.I.M. and they all lived happily ever after, well at least for a while.

  8. Let's hope we can discuss all things speedway without the petty bickering and name calling..... Adam Roynon returns to the team on Friday (Taken off Newcastle Speedway Facebook Page): Some very welcome news for Diamonds Fans, in the shape of our number 2 Adam Roynon Racing, returns this weekend just in time for the Derby meetings! Adam has been out with a shoulder injury since his heavy fall down at Scunthorpe on the 11th June, but we are thrilled to have him back in the team line-up for the fixtures against Redcar Bears Speedway this Friday and Sunday! The Diamonds will take to this weekends action with a full and complete line-up for the first time this season, and every one of our lads are 100% geared up for what promises to be an explosive couple of meetings! For all info for tickets for Fridays meeting at Redcar, please contact them direct. Tickets for Sundays return fixture at Newcastle are available NOW @ www.trybooking.co.uk/BDTC or via turnstiles on the day!

  9. Obviously the better team won on the night, given the level of victory, but gutted to go out in the circumstances surrounding this match with only half of our own riders. That’s no disrespect to the guests, who were good choices, but you want to win or lose with your “own” team. Leaves a bitter taste the whole affair but nothing we can do about it now.

  10. Interesting that the ‘ thread ‘ disappeared yet the majority name caller was the second one to post on your new thread. Anyway….nice to see the Newcastle fans have jumped on the Redcar thread and we hope to see you all on Friday. Would think your team will perform well at the STMP and make it another tough one for the injury struck Bears. We still haven’t seen the best from all 7 ( now 4 ) Bears so a good choice of guest reserves will be essential and the management have done well so far with their choices. Diamonds will be difficult to beat at Brough too so I’d settle for the 3 points at home and be happy for a point up the road but having just seen the Sarjeant is now out ( now only 3 original Bears ) who rides Brough well, I think Bears may struggle to get it.

  11. I don't know if you can blame the management as they haven't said anything about it apart from the statement about getting rid before he came an asset. Whatever Zane did, he really p'eed them off! He might be doing well for Plymouth but he hadn't done that well for Poole when he was there, so it was easy for them to just use the scores as a reason.

Jensen who was off gate 2 had beaten Ruml from the gate 1 and was turning tight in front of crump when Ruml who was inside and clamped nudged him and it caused a domino effect and craig had to lay the bike down as he was on the outside and slid into jason and i was watching it from the pit gate racing incident you see every week

  14. I did have a read of this, an awful lot of it is common sense, but this one section stood out: Quality commentary Earlier this year, TicketCo Media Services helped UK ice hockey clubs successfully stage the inaugural NIHL Spring Cup via the Streaming Series. All matches were live streamed into the homes of thousands of ice hockey fans worldwide. Clubs reported one of fans’ biggest areas of praise or concern regarding live streaming was the quality of commentary provided. Nigel understands why this was the case. “You can’t go over the top when a goal goes in or a try is scored,” he said. “Don’t scream your head off so your voice cannot handle it. Play to your strengths, do what you think your voice can manage and don’t stretch your voice so it sounds painful.” However given the criticism that Nigel very frequently gets from a very significant number, I'm not too sure he takes notice himself. It was noticeable on Sunday that the commentary in general was much calmer, more informative and less "pally" which all things being equal, made it a far more pleasurable listening (and by default, viewing) pleasure. I for one would like to see Sunday's commentary team retained as I felt that they greatly enhanced the viewing experience. Chances of that are very slim though unfortunatley.

  15. I'm surprised no-ones mentioned Zane Keleher's scores since he was booted out. Could be another one who haunts us tonight, and I don't blame him. Never really got a chance with us.

  16. I know folk are saying 'if only' about Crump. The only difference I see is possibly Ht1. In Ht1,Plymouth would have got a 3-3 instead of losing 2-4. As it was, if Bowtell hadnt shed a chain, it would most likely be a 3-3 anyway. In Crumps other rides, Bjarne won 2 of them, one as IRR and one as tac sub. Ht13 and 15 would have most likely have been the same anyway. Keleher rode well in both. Of course, thats all a matter of opinion. We will never know for sure. Cook made it look so easy. At one point, he almost took Bjarne in Ht15, but then eased off knowing 2 points were good enough for the win. I disagree with the meeting Updater in Ht5. It was Keleher in 2nd, not Cook. What has Bjarne got to do to be awarded right of the night? He has been awesome all season. I am all for highlighting the so called 'lesser lights', but in all honesty, I dont get Keleher getting it again. He was good, dont get me wrong, but Bjarne was pure class. Anyway, I think the 'Man of the Match' should have gone to Mark Phillips. How on earth he kept the track in such good condition all night in that blistering heat, I dont know. Well, I do actually. Sheer hard work. He deserves a lot of credit for his hard graft, not only last night, but all other meetings as well. Plymouth a tad unlucky to lose, but with only 6 race winners at home, Bjarne getting 5 of them, it does make it very hard work. Expected a lot more from Glasgow who seem to make a habit of making a sows ear out of a silk purse.

  17. Greg Bartlett, made his debut at reserve for Sheffield in 1994,rode at number one for the Tigers in the one big league in '95 beating some of the big names of the day around Owlerton and was making progress on the away circuits.Took a full time job as a miner back in Australia and rarely rode again.I always compared him to fellow Perth based rider Steve Johnston, who after a slow start, went onto have a solid British career and Barty was equally as good,if not slighty better than Johnno in his two seasons.

  24. Clearly know so little. Chapman & Godfrey tried to implement 100's of changes for the future but you do realise that final votes go through all voting promoters & the SCB. I'm not Chapman's biggest fan but you do realise that it doesn't matter who the Chairman & Vice-Chaiman are they're at a lose already?? The blame lies with all voting promoter's & SCB. Don't be so deluded.

  27. Whether the new manager is a fan or not, it's how the riders respond to him. Some of the best managers in the world never get their riders to perform so it's worth a shot surely. Didn't Ipswich use their photographer one year as team manager not so long ago?

  28. Different team this week. Greg Blair definitely worth watching.

  29. Please note the various reports that Crump Clashed with Cook are incorrect. Sam Jensen didn't turn left forcing Crump the race leader to fall, Cook on the outside had nowhere to go, did well to lay it down but still hit Crump. So please "PRESS REPORTERS" get your facts right.

  35. Thank you. Four of the ex-Nationals were in a group at the top of the table either way. Two teams were in the bottom three whether injury-hit or injury-free. The rest of the league would have been fairly even in the revised table, with only 7 match points between 5th and 16th. Two extra wins could have seen Wasps at 5th instead of 13th. The rider allocations at the beginning of the season were reasonably successful, but inevitably injuries played a big part in the fortunes of some teams.

  36. The reason Zane Keleher has scored a few points for Plymouth is because he has some gating ability and it’s almost impossible to pass on that track. Tonight showed what he is like on a racers track where gating won’t guarantee points. And I have nothing against Zane and wish him the best in his career. I couldn’t make tonight as I was returning from the Lake District but was getting reports through the meeting and was told it really was men against boys, with the exception of Bjarne and C Cook, who tried to stem the flow.

  39. Most, if not all speedway promotions have too small a revenue to have to file detailed accounts at Companies House, so all you're effectively seeing is a balance sheet at a given moment in time which often doesn't align with the speedway season either. It really doesn't tell you much about their profitability or otherwise. Before the threshold was increased some years ago, some speedway promotions did have to file more detailed accounts and it was quite interesting what was claimed as expenses sometimes. There was undoubtedly cash-in-hand stuff going on as well, so apparent losses may not always be what are claimed, and are possibly written off against taxes elsewhere. But it doesn't take a genius to work out from the attendances and limited other sources of revenues that speedway brings in, that it isn't a money spinner.

  41. I thought it was a meeting with many exciting races and showed with a good heat leader guest Kyle Howorth,,,,we can get a result at home..with Hurry chipping in with some usefull points..getting fitter obviously ,making a difference...and the rest of the team battling hard for their points......But the star of the show was young Dan Gilks who on tonights gutsy performance, is emerging as a top prospect for the future you could see the determination,,coupled with great style...obviously he is still learning and every night will not be as great but Kent are lucky to have him...Must agree with Old Bob on one point the sound system is terrible .they need a sound engineer to come and set it up right so the fans can understand what is being said,,...Amazingly the weather held up,,the gods must have been shining for a change......

  43. He carried on for at least a year and came a about 10 th in the 66 World Final but possibly he had lost his hunger after winning the title. He seems to have carried on racing long track for a few years. I have a vague notion that he took on a car dealership and building that up took a lot of his time but could be wrong about that.

Meeting got delayed till 8PM, then they ran practice and the meeting started at 9:45PM. Another big delay after heat 2. After that it went pretty quick.
