So, therefore, the only correct and sensible thing to so is to carry on with such a winning formula isnt it? Keep running seven man teams even though there isnt enough riders, meaning every team can share several riders with someone else in the league below and thus, very little demarcation between the top two leagues.. Thus, zero aspirational attainment to grow... Keep running fixed (restrictive) race nights simply to ensure all the riders have an opportunity to do a seven day stretch and have loads of rides... With whether your fans thinking it is the best night to race on being very much a secondary (and maybe even lower?) consideration.. And keep running two leagues with an ever dwindling number of clubs taking part, thus rendering both pretty much worthless recognition wise in winning.. Even more so when any team who wins can, and invariably will, get help from every other team in the league to attain that "success"... They seem to have unearthed a new adage.. "If it IS broken, dont fix it".8 points

Adrian Smith will be another in quite a long line who have seen the sport from outside and thought "Wow! What potential".... So therefore, got involved, .. And, like others before him, would have gone into it thinking that all he had to do was highlight to the those already incumbent all the obvious inherent flaws that all can see hold the sport back in the UK... And then simply convince them that there are a great many alternative ways of moving this great sport forwards... However... Like so many others before him he has failed to take into account how insular and short term focused so many within the sport are, with many appearing to be "quite happy" with their lot as they hold 'some power'... Failing to grasp of course that they 'hold power' in a sport that hardly anyone has heard of, never mind cares about.. "Ideas People" are not wanted....4 points

To add to this, Oxford have accepted it. They're not idiots, they clearly have faith a Wednesday will work for them anyway and have moved forward with it3 points

So just signed back in to the forum and can't believe the amount of utter tosh thats appeared in the past few hours. Jeez.3 points

Poole prob don't overpay riders as much as you think they do! But they do always pay on time, and that in itself can be the difference between a rider signing for us or another club.3 points
-
Who do you get if you morph Steve Worrall & Richard Lawson together??? STEVE LAWSON Now there's a quality rider from back in the day can we sign him??3 points
-
Apparently @philtheace is saying it's because a sponsor has dropped out at Plymouth. Perhaps Richard is still scarred from the Eastbourne treatment this year to take any risks and would rather play it safe by being paid on time.3 points

In a year when 3 championship clubs have folded and one came very close to doing so and criticism of the treatment of the NDL has at times been scathing, that is hard to accept. If they are motivated by 'self interest' then the plight of the sport as a whole may not matter much and there are those who would far sooner state that everything is fine when - clearly - it isn't than admit they have got it seriously wrong. In doing so, they fool themselves only.3 points

Keep this thread open as it winds people up saying Workington not in this league, but they don't complain when Poole/oxford are posting in both league's2 points

You are completely overlooking one fact - 6 teams using a Friday as their main race night DOES NOT mean that those teams will be able to race every Friday. If Oxford were to be accepted as a Friday track, they would be bottom of the pecking order when it comes to having priority over that day. That means that they would have to use their alternative race night 5 times, when racing the other teams using a Friday. At present, this equates to half of their home fixtures being raced on 'off' nights if a team is wanting to race every week, in addition to KOC, Play-Offs being raced on 'off' nights too. So your argument is flawed IMO2 points

But it shouldn't be 7 man teams if you cant make the leagues credible entities using that template.. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time? Madness is the definition I believe.. (Which is quite Ironic really as there was seven in that band, and then six)....2 points

Think the insiders know why Lawson would not ride in the same Team as Richie Worrell. So we’re Plymouth after Richie.2 points

If the BSPL were to do a survey to find out the average age of spectators that go to watch live Speedway they may find out the true state of British Speedway, for sure it IS broke but they year on year make no attempt to fix it, I will guarantee now that at least 1 other Team will fall by the wayside in 2022, last team standing turn the lights out please. One other fact some fail to realise is that any NEW Promoter cannot even vote or propose any new measures for 3 years, so he/she can see obvious problems within the Sport but cant even propose/vote for any changes, but he/she can continue to throw money at Speedway but cant do anything about it for 3 years, except walk away how stupid is that ?. Fixed racenights, Doubling up are not in the best interests of British Speedway, they are in fact detrimental to British Speedway but the powers that be cant see any further than the end of there noses.2 points

As Oxford would be bottom of priority list would also mean at least 4 home meetings on your alternative race night thus losing any consistency to the casual fan2 points

I personally think Steve could kick on after a brilliant season at poole, seems really happy at poole, so hopefully him and Danny spearheading the pirates next season2 points

It makes total sense to allow tracks to race on the night they feel will deliver their best crowds.. And for an entertainment business you would think Friday would deliver more punters than a Wednesday. (Especially the much needed families with young kids who hopefuly will become adult punters in later years).. Absolute crackers that they hold back the sports growth by preventing teams from riding on nights they want to because it means not enough guests will be available.... A ruling that destroys all the sport's credibility, and therefore reduces crowds significantly, and keeps major sponsors and mainstream media away, prevents tracks from riding on nights that they feel would increase the crowds that follow the sport.. An amazing plan...2 points

Think as KOTT says as well. Would Steve maintain that average? I don't know he's had couple up and down years. Hasn't been a consistent number 1 over the years. Lawson is a very good rider, very reliant on his gating though2 points
-
Got to be honest. Danny King is simply a much better rider than Steve Worrall and he's capable of doing a job at No.1 by maintaining his average. Steve Worrall even though he's popular among the Poole faithful wouldn't be able to maintain his average. Take into account the numerous amount of meetings Steve rode in the engine room with easier races than Danny. I'm interested to see how this play's out as I'm hearing one thing and Trackerman has heard another while the Polish press are reporting the Lawson story. Can't fit all 3 in so one has to go.2 points

Well the room was full, standing room only. Very promising, but no purchase has been agreed. Nigel seems a decent guy a speedway fan and businessman. The 1,000 break even is a challenge which is driven by the rent increase. There is a share option for fans of which I’m happy to chip in1 point

It was Great Britain, not England, although there were two Englishmen in the team (Nigel Boocock and How). Two Scots (George Hunter and Ken McKinlay) an Australian (Charlie Monk) and a New Zealander (Barry Briggs) completed the 'home' team. Two other Englishmen were reserves (Trevor Hedge and Reg Luckhurst, both of Wimbledon) and they shared How's rides after he was injured.1 point

I think the Richie Worrall injury was during a televised meeting. We won't be having Steve W as Dickson has said that Morris is his No.1.1 point

Zupinski shown great promise and Torun spent a lot to get him this year but he was very disappointing. They’ve just signed Zielinski from Grudziadz who shown glimpses of being decent at times. Torun have also just announced Sajdullin, Zach Cook, Petr Chlupac and Bastian Pedersen - Nicki Pedersen’s nephew.1 point

Lewandowski and Zupinski both rode in Extraleague throughout 2021. Lewandowski who is 16 is a real talent and is the better of the 2.1 point

I must admit I am struggling to understand how you believe that three teams have not folded during 2021. I can certainly accept that there are recognisable reasons why that was the case, but it clearly happened. The same could be said of Rye House, Lakeside, Buxton, Coventry and virtually every other track lost in the past few years. Eastbourne was definitely down to mismanagement - and from what I heard worse than that - but they did not finish the season. It is very likely indeed that they will return, but that is substantially due to the exceptional nature of the ownership of the stadium. From the same source, I am told that the Dugard family do not actually charge the speedway promotion rent but merely reimbursement of match day costs - which reflects their long term and deeply committed approach to the sport. Kent does seem to be about the change of stadium owners - although Len Silver did indicate other reasons for pulling out - given that the former owner Roger Cearns was speedway co-promoter. It certainly seems to me that if there was a viable and profitable future for speedway there a prospective promoter would be found and the new landlords would welcome the continuance of racing at Central Park but it seems no-one has come forward and from comments on here ARC look to be dead against it. I'll hold my breath on Birmingham. It was a huge success on opening but has a very chequered history since, with David Mason (after suffering truly frightening losses) being just one of a number of promoters who have walked away. That's something that any potential new promoter will have to consider before taking it on. Finally, I'd point out that only as a result of a last minute intervention were Newcastle saved, Rob Grant having publicly stated that they were to close. At present, there are 17 stand alone clubs committed to running in BSPL competition in 2022. 10 years ago, there were 28.1 point

From Rob Grant Not that I need to justify my actions but I will point out that at the time of replacing JPB I knew Newcastle was in a financial hole and the Diamonds were having to be subsidised heavily to get the bills paid , hence the dropping of the National League as the crowd figures at the time were shockingly low. I told Steve Pate that things weren’t quite rosy and that I wanted to put Archie in so that if Newcastle collapsed the lad could say he had ridden for his home town club. We knew he wasn’t ready but we had our reasons for letting him do it. Archie could of easily refused to sign but he didn’t and we were pleased to give him the run till the season closed. We had 7 meetings left to stage in National League and we weren’t just talking a couple of grand to complete them it would of been a substantial amount. Some folk on here saying they offered to keep it going are talking utter garbage as no one approached me at all esp the main man that’s letting his mouth go. All sponsors agreed for the club to retain the sponsorship in order for the main team to survive. With the exception of the main man who’s letting his mouth go, who asked for a full refund, which was given. Newcastle are running championship only, you have a team to support, we have a facility to operate out of, we have a good loyal backing, let's just focus on keeping another club active as we don't want to lose any more, We have seen the issues with Birmingham and Kent and we are in the same bubble. So for heaven sake just enjoy what you have, while you have it as nothing is guaranteed anymore.1 point
