But that was how the RS system was billed, as a non stop conveyor belt. It was obvious too many that it wouldn't happen/work and that it was just capitalising on a particular year with a stronger crop of riders than usual. If a system for succession is put in place then stick to it and do something to actually help it succeed. As ever the great 5 year masterplans get dropped after a year or two because they are flawed, ill conceived and poorly regarded by the idiots who introduced them in the first place.3 points

Funny I remember the series being bigger than that..I was much younger though. I'll file it away with curly wurlys and monster munch.2 points

Probably suits both clubs , Poole get an established heatleader who probably won’t ride for us anytime soon. Glasgow get a young rider with potential to become a heatleader win win.2 points

Personally I think it is unfair to have a team knowingly go into half of their meetings with only 6 riders. It allows them to choose between r/r or a guest they know goes well around an away track. Not really what I want to see, it would be much like Peterborough last year when Ulrich got injured and then continued to run with 6 riders, knowing he was out for the season.2 points

To be honest a rider only doing home meetings wouldn't be the most ridiculous thing about UK speedway!2 points

Someone did suggest that speedway should be targeting the older generation like pensioners because they have a bit more disposable cash than people with mortgages and a family, and are happy to take grandkids along and thats where you get your next generation of supporters from. Whether that would work is anybodies guess tho. Birmingham have been excellent at catering for the kids over the last few years but if the parents can't afford to go or have lost interest then you will eventually lose that generation. It's an old-age problem that the sport has never solved...2 points

RTD may be in the team, but I think it would be alongside Rothery & the 2 Millars rather than replacing them.2 points

At least it’s their own money they are using.Unlike other Promotions that went to the wall ,leaving their debt behind.2 points

Yeah I've never liked them, seen many in Glasgow and none were successful. Parker and stancl, Parker and bird, Parker greives and stancl. Problem was the James cockles, Cory Blackman's and Lee Dickens at other end of the team1 point

The NDL should be about developing riders. Last year there was some great entertaining racing watching the Colts… hope formore of the same in 2022. it was great watching the young uns develop1 point

Poole have been allowed to have 7 R/R riders for next season. When riding away It has been agreed the home riders to cover the rides, when at home it has been agreed they can have seven guest riders up to a points limit of 50, this should ensure they easily win the league1 point

Birmingham have been great where kids are concerned since the Masons took charge. The problem I think at Perry Barr, is from a spectator's/viewing position, it's cr#p for kids! (it's not much better for adults unless you go indoors....'personally, I hate watching from indoors'....)1 point

Think most clubs will struggle to significantly increase their crowds in today’s climate within the sport. It really relies on existing fans keeping their families interested enough to continue going along.1 point
-
No there was no rule it seems , but its easy to see why some may see it as an advantage , there were other teams that benefitted from some rules that were adjusted to suit the situation with covid at the time not just Poole1 point
-
But he couldn't ride because of covid restrictions in Czech, were there any rules for that at the time? I don't think there were, that's why the committees own discretion was used imo.1 point

Still got 3/4 months to boost season ticket sales.... Just my opinion, but I doubt 'B'ham fans will be holding out to buy a season ticket based on who the next signing will be? You're either a supporter (supporter being the operative word) or not?! The make up of the team, will affect the 'casual/occasional' supporter....as I said, just the way I look at it. I personally think that the 'Boss/LR', knows enough about speedway, to know that a competitive side is imperative to survival.... Barring injuries, B'ham won't be the whipping boys of the division!1 point

For me, if Tai rode for the Aces and only did home meetings.... I would take his home average and divide it by 2 to calculate his overall average.. eg. If he went unbeaten around the NSS all season and got a 12 point average when it is divided by two it becomes a 6.... That would be fair......1 point

You can't sign a rider who only wants to ride home matches jts an absolute non starter.1 point

In reality then Tai didn't want to ride in Britain or for BV at all - he simply wanted a well paid practice facility.......1 point

I think you could be right. The sport is just being patched up now, just to get the next match, week or season complete. No long term plan. Stop trying to attract new fans without worrying why the old ones have vanished. The old ones more often than not used to introduce the old ones. You couldn't sell the sport on Dragons' Den the way it's set up at the moment. Imagine trying to explain the team set ups, or what is the top league and what is the second tier. Why have so many riders riding for different teams have the same name? It is pathetic. It's like that parrot in the Monty Python sketch.1 point

Maybe call the stand the legends stand and do a online vote to establish ten riders who deserve a place and have ten large photo boards mounted in the stand. be handy if you are meeting someone at the stadium as you can say I’ll be in the south stand in the Chris Morton section. a club of such heritage in a modern stadium should remember the history like they do for Peter craven.1 point

Whatever team you support, if you think the BSPL raising Woffinden's average so he can't return to Britain would be right then you need your head checked. Nothing should allow this opportunity to be passed up.1 point
-
Nobody asked them to be a speedway rider though,if the crowds can’t generate enough money to pay them, they should go a get a day job.1 point

Thanks. Normally we still made the Sunday meetings at Hyde Rd, will have to ask my parents why they didn't take me to this one Also missed the Peter Craven meeting in the same year (won by Andy Smith) for some reason as well.1 point

Yes. Mudguards covering all the way down to where modern-day dirt deflectors go. They kept snapping off on the bends. It was a very cold Sunday afternoon in November 1985.1 point

I will support speedway but be nice to see a winning team and trophies/be seen as a threat to other sides.1 point
