  1. That sounds a great recipe for some proper good racing. As we know,, it's all about having the room for different lines entering the bends,, and room enough for getting out of them with riders next to each other. I am so looking forward to visiting this track when is up and running.

  2. Salt of the earth, Comets fans. Used to love a Saturday evening at Derwent Park then down to the Persian restaurant on Clay Flatts after.

  3. You could say this for most, if not all the tracks in the country. 99.9% of fans are fine and you can have a decent conversation with them and enjoy the banter, but you still have that 0.1% who (usually) have "one over the eight" and cause you grief. Rather than cause trouble, unfortunately, the only option is for you to move to another part of the track. I must say though in all the years of travelling away to support the Diamonds, it's never come to that, but I know it's happened to others, even at Brough Park.

  4. I shan't set foot on the STMP again. In 50 years of watching speedway it's the only place I've felt uncomfortable, especially with my daughter. I don't go anywhere to be heckled by idiots, and as Redcar is the only place that has happened, I'll give it a miss.

  5. Probably only cos you have a common enemy, us at Newcastle. Quite sad.

  6. and that’s Poole’s fault ? Quite a few teams have the same, it’s a dog eat dog sport and the Birmingham promotion have enough experience to know that. Newcastle aren’t exactly over loaded with top riders either.

  7. Because he needs his head examined. He was about as popular as a fart in a space suit with his team ‘ mates ‘.

  8. How much does it cost for public liability cover, and the increased stewarding cover now required for all "public events"?

  9. I think it is why he got dropped that is the issue! Skidder1 and Trackerman48 know the most about it.

  10. GiveusaB it will not be Kelleeher but I think that will be the best thing to be honest with some of the things riders have said about him.

  11. Before the lockdowns, we used to stand in the 2nd temporary stand with some Redcar supporters and had some great 'debates' and laughs together. Usually stand in the gap in front of the refreshments bar now, and that's because we meet other Diamonds fans and with Bears fans. Usually if you give it back respectfully, you can get a great atmosphere. I feel quite at home at Redcar, but last year we had someone cleaning the refs windows during a meeting, now there's a first. Wonder who he was ?

  12. Really? That's a very bizarre comment to make! I'm still on here, despite Wimbledon closing. So is iris123. And cityrebel. And Robbie B. Come to think of it, MOST of us who are on here have lost our tracks, yet it's no cause for us to leave the BSF.

  13. Interesting news this morning, a few of the Championship clubs run their own streaming already. Hopefully this new network is a collaborative effort.

  14. Surely everybody will wish this to be the case. Can't imagine opening night without Hans in attendance hopefully maybe even ride the first lap.

  15. Apparently Hans Nielsen will be making an appearance? Will certainly help raise the profile of the sport returning to Cowley.

  16. So the BIG question will be... which team will be the first to announce who it's 7 riders are? The Coventry Bees or the Birmingham Brummies?

  17. depends when the interview took place. It might be a different story now.

  18. Maybe he'd know Terry Mussett???

  19. Strange, you was only asking for an update a couple of days ago. Do you think something has happened in the meantime ?

  20. That’s a piece of exciting news for Brummie fans.

  21. That myth again. He never let Belle Vue down when riding for us.

  23. LR is just saying these things to buy time. Danno Verge still available and has no danish or polish fixtures

  24. He's not exactly young though, think he's 29 next week. I'd imagine if he were going to change he would have done so by now. Who knows

  25. He's still got time to change though. Let's hope so if it affects his career.

  29. My money is on Kelleher to be the 7th rider.....

  30. Yes, should bring some decent nostalgic support along. Promising update from LR yesterday regarding 2 of the 3 remaining possible signings. Plenty of time to go yet and sit and see who is available in a month or so when it will be a buyers market as demands for silly money turn to panic about not having a team place!

  31. Could. be done very, very easily and with little to no expense.

  32. Lasse is still riding? Kenneth, along with Broc Nicol. It's not Woffinden & Jakobsen, but probably the best available. Bjerre maybe a few years beyond his peak but will be a solid heat leader on a track he knows. It's getting to the now or never stage for Nicol's European career, which he must realise. Had enough time to become accustomed & more opportunities than the average Brit his age is ever afforded.

  35. I wonder if Sandor actually participated in the Hungarian revolution- I guess he was born in the mid thirties and would have remembered Admiral Horthy, who was deposed in about 1943 or 44. Replaced by Ferenc Salazi and the Arrow Cross- Jewish Hungarians were ok until that point but then they became the last major victim group of the Holocaust. I thought Horthy did the best he could- he survived the war and retired to Spain-wrote a most interesting auto biography. I wonder if Sandor with a last name - Levai-was Jewish, and Levai was just a derivation of Levy. Anyway-he really helped out Newport.. A most interesting guy.

  36. 298 metres and the same width as Belle Vue on the straights and the bends with an 8% camber on each bend... Regards THJ

  37. Not that it's really an anecdote, but it was about 1989 or 90, and I had just got on a cross-channel ferry to go to France. I parked the car, and I was just getting out when I heard, "Are you a speedway fan?" I looked round, and it was Sandor! He saw the stickers in my back window. We had a little chat, and that was the last time I ever saw him...

  38. Really hope so coz I’m looking forward to seeing Tai coming past the finish line giving the bv fans the finger again

  39. I don't have any particular Sandor story or even memory. I only saw him a coupleof times . But he is definitely one of those in the category that i was surprised later to learn that he was such an accomplished rider before i had seen him. No bad thing, as he is in good company with the likes of Hurri-Ken McKinlay Obviously a fascinating story of his time in Hungary, which having the Who's, who of world speedway has a fairly decent section on his career. The Honved Budapest club where he started out, still remaining something of a mystery to this day

  40. Bjerre would be a better signing than Woffinden. He would be more committed and is a better trapper. Bjerre is fondly remembered in Peterborough, some Panthers fans even used to call him "King Kenneth".

  41. Spot on assessment mate and a rider and family who are 100% committed. Well deserved in my opinion

  42. What they are doing on the island is fantastic. Yes I agree I to would like to see IoW back in NDL but if the current owners cannot agree with the politics then this is their best option. I may not enjoy grass bikes or Flat track machines on a speedway track but I see the business plan in that this allows access to more competitors it is a system that has worked across the world of motorcycle racing. In Australia NZ USA & SA all different types & standards will come together to produce the whole event & nobody can argue that anything upto 50 races is better value than 15 no matter what standard or discipline.

  43. I fondly remember Sandor being a Heathen in 1974 and 75. John Berry wrote in one of his books that Sandor made a mistake coming back following his retirement at the end of his stint with Ipswich, but most Heathens fans would disagree. Certainly round Dudley Wood he gave us a touch of solidity which was very welcome following a dismal 1973 season. My memory of Sandor is more personal but was why he was always one of my favourite riders even before signing for Cradley. 1969 was my first full season as a Speedway fan and I ended up the season totally besotted with the sport. So much so, that when asked what I wanted to do for my Birthday in October the answer was a trip to Monmore Green to see some Speedway (the Dudley Wood season having ended a few days before). My main reason for going to see the enemy was that Newport were the visitors and they included former Heathen Chris Julian. We were stood on the sparsely populated back straight and cheered for the Wasps riders all night. Its fair to say Newport were put to the sword and my former favourite Chris was pretty poor. However, the only Wasp who put on a show was number 1 Sandor who amassed 12 of the team total of 23. As he coasted round round after his 3 wins he obviously became aware of us cheering and waving our programmes and began to wave back (both before and after his heats). This continued into the second half - which he won - with our reception and Sandor's reaction getting more animated each time. Ever since that night Sandor was my favourite "other" rider and we always went to support him whenever he rode at Monmore.

  48. Sverre Harrfeldt is undoubtedly the best Norwegian rider world speedway has seen. Barry Briggs fans would disagree but there were times in 1966 (when he finished up runner-up to Briggs at the World final) when he was just about unbeatable. I do realise that the period from 1970 to 1989 will be covered in the article in Backtrack but Leif "Basse" Hveem's achievements prior to this time surely deserve a mention. In his career he won the Nordic Championship 13 times (8 long track and and 5 speedway) plus 21 Norwegian Championships (11 long track and 10 speedway). As this site's self appointed South African correspondent,I should mention that he suffered an horrendous accident in Durban in 1955 that nearly ended his career but recovered to win both the Norwegian and Scandinavian Championships the following year. Basse died in 1964
