  1. Brennan winning heat 13 from the back, good lad. Reckon he could be the real deal.

  2. Another predictable uncompetitive championship match

  3. Same here. Many happy hours leafing through Backtrack over the years. I have to be honest and say the quality has tailed off recently, with "The Life and Times..." little more than a rehash. But overall, it has been a very enjoyable read. Coupled with some excellent books under the same operation, especially the Kenny Carter and John Berry books, its a great body of work to be proud of. Well done Tony and Susie.

  4. I think it was an unfortunate set of circumstances whereby just as Richard is turning harder than Adam expected and therefore scrubbing off more speed than Adam expected, Adam is at the same time making a distinct move to go to the outside and the miscalculation of speeds causes the collision. It only takes a minor miscalculation to happen. The reason why it's not just OK for the rider in front to just take any line he chooses at all costs is because without brakes the guy behind can't just slow down instantly. For ,me this was a racing incident. The clues as to how Richard was defending the position were clear and had been for a couple of laps, Adam was going all out to make the pass and switched lines one way as Richard was switching the other. Sure Adam will be pi##ed off about it as will any Sheffield Fans and so they should. It was unlucky on Adam, but for me, The best referee in the business made the right call.

  5. Coming up for this. Think Pirates should really win this and take 4 points but will take nothing for granted. Against expectation wins are commonplace in all sports.

  6. You can pay for your chips with a card, so why can’t you buy a ticket with your card/phone at the turnstiles? I don’t get that. There’s nowhere else I go where I need cash.

  7. There isn’t much turnstile congestion to talk about IMO.The sport is expensive enough without having to pay a booking fee.

  8. I must echo what has been said already. As a Backtrack reader from issue one, it was always an interesting mix with some excellent insights and recollections. The John Berry column was outstanding and subsequently contributions from Malcolm Simmons and currently Martin Rogers gave the magazine a real edge. All backed up with some excellent photos from the archives. Tony deserves huge credit for producing such a quality mag for over 100 issues, and if it is the end, all we can say it a big Thank You! NB love the comment re Finn and Cass the Gas enjoying each others company at reserve - but then it was always entertaining at Waterden Road!

  9. Well @GiveusaB you almost predicted the score right and I laughed at it! Was close at the beginning but when Stef had his crash seemed to change a bit.. Pleased for Nathan to get 2 paid 3

  10. The kids class. Not just on the bike but off it as well. Anyone who saw him at the GP qualifier last season see the talent. And that was while he was an eagle. Deserves to get to the top

  11. After all the debate Tom Brennan did really well !Not sure anyone else would have done that much better tbh!

  15. Yes you are right. But he said no one passes at Poole and I was just giving an example of it happening!

  16. I suppose there maybe an older more experienced rider who's deemed a stronger option, but on Auty's average on the night I would rather come to watch an up and coming rider who's getting better by the month, who will ride his socks off whatever, as it's at PB and not at Poole, I genuinely think he'll out score his average which is all you can ask of a guest really.

  20. Haven't paid great deal of attention, we were at PB early in season last year before Tom moved up. But i don't think any track he rides poorly and gives 110% every race. If he gates I don't see the gating tarts () getting past him. As you say he's ridden at HL all season and was 3rd HL riding at 3/4 second half of last season. I'm genuinely shocked at the negativity towards him as a guest. Sure played a part in the win at Oxford but not good enough for PB? Edit: he scored 9 in NDL in 2018 if that gives any clue Looking at Eastbourne team what happened to Georgie wood? Wasn't he considered as hot a prospect as TB at the time?

  21. So palin would have rode in Poland yesterday if it wasn’t rained off. jenkins who was injured ride in Poland. As harsh as it sounds surely they were withholding there services Monday in what was an official British meeting. this is what makes having a RS in the event a shambles. They will choose to ride in Poland over this where they will get paid more and have more rides.

  22. From the statements from the Monarchs Promotion, they seem very confident that Edinburgh will be coming to tapes in 2023. Its not as if this latest announcement has come as a surprise so the Promotion have clearly been working on possible alternatives for some time. Lets hope they are fruitful

  23. It does seem strange given the emphasis on not wanting fans to not to use cash.Given the average crowd at League Speedway waiting to enter the Stadium is not a real problem. They certainly have to cater for all fans. It’s discrimination only letting online tickets allowing children in free.IMO.

  24. Sounds like Klindt wanted too much, the real problem is their are not enough riders of that ability available or want to come in the first place.

  25. I've got the Stenners Annuals 1950 thru 1954 covering the seasons 1949 thru 1953, one of the things I am most interested in are the World Champion Final qualifiers- it's amazing how many well known riders almost qualified but didn't ever make it Also the standard of literacy in those annuals is far superior to modern publications-maybe speaks to educational standards declining. Also have the 1963 Speedway Digest covering the 1962 season-good obituary on Jack Unstead killed in a track accident in the 62 season. Len Silver was PLRC champ that year (riding for Exeter). I also have the British Speedway Handbooks for the first 2 seasons- plus as I have mentioned before the programmes of every meeting I ever attended (so glad I kept 'em, sometimes I take a look at them and it brings back memories of those times.)

  27. My gripe is with Chris Louis’ statement in the press release. He “ briefly“ looked in to the European market for one particular rider but he was too expensive so quickly looked closer to home and Barker was the “obvious choice”. Why briefly? Why not have an extensive look around Europe and try and find some talent or was that too much effort? I don’t think for one minute it’s easy finding a suitable rider but at least make the effort. Barker was such a lazy lazy signing. Louis was right about one thing, he was definitely the “obvious choice” and that’s my issue with the signing. People on here were putting Barker’s name forward for weeks before he signed.

  29. Having just received my latest edition of "Backtrack" I read with dismay that the next editions of both magazines may well be the last as the present team of Tony and Susie wish to move on. I sincerely hope that someone else picks up the mantel because I thoroughly enjoy reading both magazines and not having either to read will create a massive void in my retrospective insight into speedway's last "Golden Era". May I wish both Tony and Susie very best wishes and thank you most sincerely for producing two great magazines which I will cherish and continue to read the back numbers in an attempt to re-fresh diming memories.

  34. But surely that's the 1 dip into the foreign market they were talking about. Its been mentioned many times over the last however many years about getting some new young talent,, and inviting them to an individual,,, it just never happens. Dont even have to do that,, pay their air fares,, pick them up and let them do some laps one someone else's bike,,, would get a rough Idea

  35. That may be the best idea, adding the scores to teams total. Means there's a reason for the RS being in attendance, there in case of injuries to top 2, but also get 3 races, so not travelling for just one ride!

  38. Hmmm. I don't know. This is a book that should have been written before now. I don't think the unedited thoughts of the PC of today should be committed to print. I fear it will not be a fair reflection on one of the sport's greats nor on others too. And I'll leave it at that.

  43. Possibly, but in this climate can’t see a Promotion building Stadium on a piece of rented private land.Would have to be some deal.

  44. People talking about the concept being wrong because of a small turn out. I'm of the opposite view. Crowd numbers at the venue are pretty much irrelevant, similarly to how greyhound racing works today. If there were 2500+ watching via streaming @ £13, this competition has started with flying colours. 3/400 at the stadium, 1900 online etc, it's a success. No longer will promoter be to concerned by paying punters at the gate as long as there's a gradual uptick in streaming purchases

  45. But you don't go to Speedway!!!! Can we stop this somehow before yet another thread is destroyed please!
