  1. Great meeting to watch... Atmosphere seemed brilliant. .. Riders giving absolutely everything. .. And a young Brit leading the charge regularly now for his team against world class opponents.. If only we could bottle some of that and bring it over here one day.... Speedway. ...

  2. I am afraid if there isn't enough money in the club to reimburse its customers then Rob Grant will need to get the wallet out and pay, he was happy to take the fans money over the winter when offering a season full of racing so should take the responsibility now Newcastle cant complete the season.

  3. Because they have a team to support that is theirs and they can identify with it. We have 'licorice allsort' teams of double uppers, guests, rider reps etc that have NO team identity whatsoever. Sad times.

  4. and they cant see what they are doing to the sport and themselves junior riders are the best entertainment because you dont know what they are going to do next . i can see good support for the new venture and will support it when its on . looking forward to going to the field of dreams ..

  5. Aye, as long as he's pocketing enough zloty to pay for nappies and the mortgage, who cares about his contractual duties in the UK? Conscious much? I like the news snippet on the Monarchs website. Says something like, "he'll miss KL and Leicester and have treatment this weekend. He won't miss any more meetings." Perhaps they should have gone with, "he'll miss KL and Leicester and have treatment on Saturday before returning to action in sunny Polska 24 hours later." Wonder what sort of reaction that would've gleaned. Poland is famous for its 'gun to the head' policy. Perhaps we should do the same? If Mr Campbell wishes to purchase a rifle, I'm happy to provide the character reference...

  7. And theirs still folk defending grant in the latest fb post. Idiots! seems an impossible task or someone who would need thousands to start speedway again there if theres no stuff to start speedway there! so ‘bleeped’ off but he made loads at the hoppings too!

  9. Maybe Ed should go and spend some time in Poland...? I believe the air over there can heal Speedway riders in particular very quickly...

  10. Saw on Twitter that the Brummies announced he is out for the season. So for remainder of '22 Birmingham will have more guests than a Premier Inn.

  11. Not getting them anytime soon by looks of it, now it depends on sale of club and assets. Originally the money was coming from other businesses.. they really do struggle to remember what they said a few weeks ago Bunch of crooks!

  13. Don’t know why they can’t get the league fixtures finished before we start the Mickey Mouse Cup fixtures .Just going to run into the usual fixture chaos in October.

  14. Or we alternated all the way through the meeting as we have done for the last five seasons.

  15. Agree you can't really promote the sport around those that don't ride here, but i don't blame those riders for looking after themselves and going where the money is.

  16. Next one on the rank... Level headed kid too... Glide path spot on at the moment. .. HL in the Prem next year the next phase,.. Needs to be a bit harder I would say... Lambert has learned that, Bewley slowly getting there the same but needs to speed it up a tad... The future looks good given the excellent talent of those three... Let's hope the UK Speedway promoters can utilise their talents to promote their own sector of the sport.. Bewley and Lambert now Ht 15 regulars in the toughest league in the world.. Not bad that is it?

  17. But the difference between this and other situations you might believe to be similar, is that there is absolutely no doubt that Sam is injured. He has a broken bone in his foot. He is trying to miss as few meetings as possible. If he was not injured, he would not have missed any matches.

  18. Let’s be fair the rules are just a rough guide and always have been. With MPT and Hans out, Scotty is currently number 3

  19. Smart bit of PR that to both set up interest and inform about the weather and track concerns that may have put people off travelling. If they don't know their team yet then best say that than put out something inaccurate. Good promoting.

  20. ‘’Cannot believe Poland doesnt follow the UK operating model to be honest given it works so well, definitely missing a trick the Poles aren't they? ‘’ They don’t need to Mike as Poland has one advantage over all other Speedway nations - fanatical support!

  25. I have had a private message to confirm it was indeed the referee that broke the equipment It was all his fault for pressing the wrong buttons or pressing the correct buttons the wrong way There was nothing Sheffield could've done to prevent this unfortunate unforeseeable situation Whatever he did caused such extensive damage that it was assessed by the electrician that "many hours work" would be required to rectify the situation I must say I am rather sceptical and feel that the root cause is rather more likely to have been an out dated no longer fit for purpose control panel (unless of course the ref savagely beat the system with a sledgehammer! )

  29. They know only too well that the second Bartek dons a set of Wroclaw kevlars to stand in for a missing Majic then the sport is truly "Donald Ducked" ... Passionate Tribal Fans. National Media fighting each other for contracts to show the sport. And National Company Sponsors willing to be associated with a huge sport in Poland, will all be gone in a flash quicker than it took Bartek to put the Wroclaw colours on... Hence we have the U24 League... Protecting their asset and brand...

  32. It's all to play for. I'll be surprised if Poole don't find an Aussie zinger to replace Ablitt. Glasgow look solid all round especially at reserve with Hume and Bailey, Bailey massively improved. However Cook isn't the Craig of old and Brennan and Basso in that outstanding on occasions but average next match phase of their careers. Not the strong team they were with Rasmus in it. Leicester have strong home team but need a number 7 and Thompson away form us an achilles heel If Plymouth can get MPT and Hans fit and Gilkes back and keep Guest or even RR for Kennett if he's second in averages would be very strong though carrying a reserve Redcar look massive dangers to me, Edwards is a revelation chipping in paid 6 or 7 up at number 2, and Jenkins strong at reserve. If they click are dangers. Can't decide Monarchs or Scunny 6th place, probably just Monarchs. Certainly lot more interesting than the 6 team borefest

  34. I'd imagine for their TMs travelling allowance they would choose Glasgow . Would be an interesting scenario, Leicester probably be hoping Plymouth or Glasgow lose to Edinburgh or Redcar/ Scunthorpe.

  36. It’s an absolute nonsense you can finish 6th in a league of 8 teams, lose your first two play off matches and still advance and go on to win the league. Utter madness.

  38. Don`t think they can PLAY-OFF PICTURE - HOW IT WORKS – The quarter-finals will consist of the 3rd v 6th placed team and 4th v 5th placed team, the top two teams will go direct to the semi-final. – The team who finishes top will have the pick of the quarter-final winners in the semi-finals. – All ties are over two legs, and any aggregate ties will be resolved by the Golden Heats format.

  39. Glasgow obviously offer good deals to riders they would like to sign. It’s up to the riders where they go.IMO. Who pays what is always an unknown fact in Speedway.

  40. Truly baffles me Dean.. No point having teams in existence if you dont create rivalry.. I remember fondly the early to mid nineties when BV raced against Wolves.. A few hundred away fans at every meeting.. And plenty of (good natured) abuse between both sets of fans.. Add in "Sammy" swiping "Young Joseph's" leg away as they entered turn 3 and you had uproar.. Two things I could guarantee.. One. Both promotions would have loved looking at the fixture list and seeing as many of these matches planned in as was possible.. And two? Anyone visiting for the first time, or maybe had just started going a few times, would definitely have been back the week later.. Noisy, tribal followings... It is what makes a team sport successful, and delivers growth.. UK Speedway seems to be ran like a Group of Gentlemens Clubs with those who own them quite happy to have "somewhere to go" rather than worry about ever expanding...

  41. What is an example of vanity? a selfie? Vanity is the quality of having too much pride in one's appearance or accomplishments or a bathroom cabinet that has a mirror and a sink. An example of vanity is a girl thinking she is the prettiest in the entire school or a Dad fitting into his sons Kevlar's and thinking they fit better on him than they do on the son... Gotcha Big Boy... I'm to sexy for these Kevlar's... Aye Righto Said Fred... Regards THJ

  42. You (and others) might be interested to see some pics I got from Slaski at the weekend. It's obviously a very different modern stadium to the one that hosted many World Finals. But it still teems with history....the cable cars running by the stadium were something that rung a bell with me. There are also several homages to speedway's history in the stadium, though interestingly, very little about PC's, Ivan Mauger's or Hans Nielsen's wins...most of it was around Jerzy Szczakiel's win.

  44. Thanks Tony. Yes, on the face of it, every word above is true. I am a sucker for sport nostalgia and former sportsmen and women who can be a bit, let's say franker, with their opinions when their career is long gone. But I think there's an elephant in the room in this instance. And it comes down to this... Are the thoughts and opinions of PC consistent with those held prior to his brain haemorrhage or not? And if there is any doubt and his clarity of thought is not what it should be, then I (as a fan) would be uncomfortable in things going into print as a permanent reminder of a guy who is the nearest the sport has to a national treasure. Oddly enough, this time next week, I'll actually be at Slaski Stadium, scene of PC's greatest triumph. I will take a moment or two to figure out where he passed Simmo and where he was chaired by fellow riders after a comprehensive and conclusive win. I - like most 70s/80s fans - hold hugely fond memories of him as one of the most spectacular and brilliant riders in the sport we all love. I hope that continues to be the over-riding feeling most of us retain long into the future.
