  1. Exactly the reason why wearing Diamonds gear sticks in ya crop. It's like he is mocking the fans and has no sympathy for the loyal fans.

  5. Our opponents were disappointing but let's not disparage them. That was a team that achieved a point at Armadale only 24 hours previous .. granted they had Leon guesting at number 1 scoring big points Bomber and Leon were simply sublime.. 2 of the easiest maximums you will ever see at Berwick.. and that was including Bombers phenomenal heat 13. In the form they are, especially if Leon is able to ride in the pairs, you've surely got to look at them as dark horses! Paid 9 from Theo and paid 17 from our guest superb guest in Jordan Jenkins is the sort of back up that wins you meeting in these fashions! Nathan looked like he could've been in for a good night... The ground he'd made up before clipping Harry McGurks back wheel showed he clearly had the speed .. just glad to see him get up from what was an alarming spill! Thank the lord he managed to get himself off the bike! A good win on the night for both Berwick teams sent the fans home happy!

  6. Thank you for your response Brian, great to hear from someone who is more knowledgeable on these matters than from those who are so dismissive & yet know little about the facts.

  7. Many present day speedway people seem to have distorted ideas about the history of Birmingham Speedway. The "blame" for the 21 year delay in bringing speedway back to the City cannot be attributed to the City Council, but rather to the intransigence of the then owners of not just the Brummoies current home venue, but that of the owners or controllers of the various alternative venues within the City which were explored. The then owner of Perry Barr Stadium, Maurice Buckland, made no bones about his attitude - he wou;d not have speedway back at his stadium at any price - and until he sold out to the GRA in 2004, he never wavered from this stance. Hall Green Stadium, also owned by the GRA until its demolition, were more accomodating, but casual enquiries convinced them that it would be impossible to secure planning permission due to the venue's close proximity to housing. Bordesley Green, not then owned by the Council although it was eventually taken over by the authority, also produced numerous excuses for rejecting approaches to restore speedway there, both on the original track and on a proposed new track on a different part of the site. In fact, the only involvement with the Council was an enquiry about the possibility of the speedway club using Salford Stadium, the City Council having had other offers which they felt were mpre appropriate. True, there was an initial difficulty in securing a planning consent for Perry Barr and it was at first refused on the casting vote of the Chairman of the Planning Committee, but a second application was emphatically approved. As far as the Alexander Stadium being a potential Grand Prix venue is concerned, the stadium is primarily an athletics site and is the headquarters of Birchfield Harriers, but is wholly owned by Birmingham City Council and it has been widely reported that the Council are anxious to justify the vast amount of money which they have spent on developing it, by finding more commercial uses for it. I don't believe that Birmingham City Council is in any way "anti-speedway" and it is my opinion that were a serious offer made to use it for a Grand Prix, the Council would certainly consider it. As the organisation of the Grand Prix meetings is outside the remit of the Speedway Control Bureau and the BSPL, any approach would have to come from those who now promote this competition, but the stadium is there, it has the capacity, and if they want it, they could go for it.

  8. Do you know much about Birmingham Council? It took Tony Mole 21 years to persuade them to allow domestic speedway in a stadium lots may call its 'ancestral home'. The Alexander stadium rebuild has cost the earth and the locals have lost a great park too. So I very much doubt they'd allow those dirty smelly noisy bikes anywhere near it....unfortunately. Unless someone can persuade them that lots of of troublef free ££££'s are likely to flow into the hotel and transport systems......hmmm could be something in it, but they'd have to be talking big bucks for the council I'd suspect.

  10. Not only that but really and truly I’m sure they’ll have less people in because bar Harris and basso I’m sure it’ll be a very one sided event, people won’t and shouldn’t part with there cash too watch a mediocre make shift team

  11. For sure not expecting a win as such, but 100% our mentality going into to every meeting now is that we can and are trying to win that meeting, home and away. batch been getting better and better lately, tungate an unknown but went well at nss when he was a home rider, and the track most similar to the continental tracks he’s been riding all year so it’s the best track for him to return to uk speedway at I’d say. real shame this meeting isn’t being televised

  14. I thought the referee got that call right, IMO Jenkins tried an outside pass and ran out of room.
    2 points
  15. Jenkins wasn't taken off, he tried to go round Kasper, got in the deep stuff and slid off. He also got away with one when he took off Ben Morley in heat 8. Both meetings reminded me of the National League in the 70/80's when Southern teams would come up and at the end of a tour be stuck with injuries and get hammered. Same when Berwick used to go to the likes of Eastbourne and Mildenhall and regularly get 60 put on them even in 13 heats.

  18. Your obviously close to Lewi. If they had stuck by you for 10 years despite your form hasn't been the best. Then you had £1000's from a testimonial. Left before the parade on our last win.... Has said he was relieved to go. Why not step down??. I think a professional should of done the right thing. We all know last years collarbone didn't play up for a day . Why not ride your last meeting, say thanks to the fans, ride your arse off to show them they made a mistake??

  20. Plus the main thing is that racing against faster (the fastest) riders makes him go faster and facing them week in week out means its sink or swim. Both he and Lambert have gone to a different level since riding in that league regularly.

  21. But would he have progressed at the rate he has without an Extraliga spot? Doubtful I'd say. The top division in Poland is the place to be if you have aspirations of being and becoming world class, the sooner Brennan can get himself there the better for his development

  27. Yep. In betting terms the management has cashed out now. Riders were available but they didn't intend to sign anyone and they were happy to sit back and save money on wages by watching the side struggle every week. Now they can't even be bothered to put out an acceptable team.

  28. What happened to no riders being available to sign?...other teams have managed it..pretty disgusted this year tbh with the managements efforts. Another nailed on hammering tomorrow and no one cares!

  29. They can only try. The racing at Cardiff has been poor for a number of years and the attendance possibly reflects that now. I know Cardiff is all about the atmosphere, pre-race events and the overall weekend however its the racing that interests me, and it needs to be good to justify the cost of going there, which it doesn't IMO. From 10 GP's this year, 4 are in Poland, why can't we have a second one in the UK i.e. Manchester. The SON there last year was superb, its a racers track and I would pay to go possibly along with many other northern based fans. As it is the GP series needs refreshed. Discovery are serious broadcasters and if they want to grow their tv audience they need to have a think about the tracks which can deliver this. Vojens, Malilla and Prague are absolute bore fests and I'm sure their viewer stats will confirm this. Taking GP's away from these tracks may mean you lose the audience in that country so its a difficult call to make however year after year they deliver FTG riding rather than racing. There has to be better out there, hopefully.

  31. I knew Alan most of my childhood and adult life from growing up in Kingstanding, and also when he had his own shop in Erdington. Alan would be appalled if his name was being used as a publicity stunt, he would want any moneys raised to go to a charity which suited a lot of good causes. Joe Thurley was a well respected man at Birmingham and without him in the 1970s there would be no Birmingham Speedway even today and he even was helping out at the reopening in 2007.Joe's name should be honoured at Birmingham but for some reason his name and memory are not even recognised in fact its been dumped in the bin(shame on Birmingham) it's a shame because no one is more befitting of a memorial at Birmingham than Joe.

  41. Sure Tommy B will be heading that way. On podcasts during lock-down Martin Dugard was saying Tom needed to get more European experience he has done that this season and I am sure with a strong performance in the SGP2 next week and I am sure he will be representing his Polish team more regularly in 2023.

  42. If there was a pot of gold in the person trying to open a track, then land would appear everywhere, no matter what objections or how many houses or whatever is around it, it would happen I’ve seen this first hand on more than a few occasions now, however as it is at the moment nobody who has the pot of gold is stupid enough to blow it on our sport, on the other hand there are a few willing people who want to open a track but don’t have the finances and a few land owners who would have it but as soon as the land owners find out there is no pot of gold it becomes a no go, as with life in general it’s about money and speedway doesn’t have any

  43. Until speedway adopts a policy of having an independant body governing the sport it will only get worse and I don't go along with the often quoted argument that any one promoter will not accept someone independantly running "their" business because other sports cope admirally with such a policy.

  44. completely agree with your 3 points, however - 4 should be finding tracks that aren't going to be sold/ rented at extortionate prices. Clubs based at dog tracks are doomed, if not now then some time in the future Its interesting, some saying spend TV money on getting big names back when (and i realise its difficult) it should be spent on getting a field somewhere and making a Somerset/ Redcar/ Scunny facility. Worky have shown it can be done - expensive but not prohibitive Finally, I don't care how weak teams have to be but the seven should be your seven, anything else is an unmarketable sham

  45. Needs to go to 2 Leagues - A professional League of all the clubs that can afford it at a level similar to the current Championship and call it the British League. 6 man teams will help as regards the rider shortage. A second tier at a level a bit higher than the present NL retaining the NL name. Only Commonwealth and British riders can ride in this League.
