How can anyone justify the cut off date being extended with the summer we have had, I can't remember a summer with so few rain offs.

The podcast is well worth a listen Dan comes across very well and has high praise for the new Northside track and what Steve Lawson has done to help him get to where he is now, IMO Dan is a future world champion

I knew when I started this thread it would be quiet... I've got to be honest, I'm beginning to wonder why I bother with this forum with all the mud slinging going back and forth and it's the same for both sides of that argument! I also get the sense regardless of the weather, the Gladiators promotion are in a no win situation here. The forecast suggests rain is likely for the next three-four days, as i type this it's pretty torrential outside my front door and I'm in the middle of the city. If it's called off, people will moan and complain. If we race, and have 3/4 guests... people will complain

The Brummies could sign the top 3 in the world but it's not going to make any difference to the average Joe in the street. There needs to be a monstrous change in how speedway is put out into the public eye to make it sustainable otherwise deep pockets and passion just aren't going to be enough. And this goes to every club, not just Birmingham.

Hey, we all get our kicks in different ways. If your lot came to ours, with no, Worrall, King, Lawson and minus a Cook. On the only night, many potential guests were unavailable, I’m not sure I’d be too excited about it. Or too proud of my promotion if they’d forced it to be that way. But, we’re all different… Hope you enjoy your night.

Think they have their hands tied quite tightly with the planning constraints. I am quite critical of Plymouth but I do think they have been shafted a bit over this.

Are you looking for a day out in the Ocean City? unfortunately as others have said the planning restrictions limit meetings greatly. However running the Centurions and helping secure the development of the future Ablitt’s, Kemp’s etc is a worthwhile and entertaining use of available Tuesdays. Certainly helps out the other clubs without the foresight to do so….. Could be worth a trip down for you? Beyond that, I think there used to be the odd car boot sale etc.. Can let you know if any happen, if that’s your kind of thing?

Speedway's failure has been that it has had people running it that call themselves promoters but openly admit to losing thousands of pounds a meeting to keep it going. If these men running it are prepared to run a business this way, what hope have we of survival? Again they'll be little panic in the winter. No doubt we'll have the Play-Offs, a decent crowd, and go into the winter with promoters using short-term memory (of the past two weeks) to say it's been a good season.

Think even the Play-Offs have taken a dive in recent years. The semi-finals no longer are rammed full, same with finals. The issue is, they're exactly the same as a regular meeting. There's no fanfare at all & except an extra £5 on the gate. Punters are turning away from the Play-Offs too in favour of watching on TV

For LEAGUE racing what happens inside the fence is a bonus but not the most important, the most important is what happens outside the safety fence, the fan experience, how that fans feels, if that fan supports their team and there is a bond with that team and they are with other like minded fans (the more the better)creating an atmosphere and their team hopefully wins with maybe some controversy thrown in even if the racing was crap the fan experience will be a good one and make that fan want to go back, this is basically what happens in any team sport even football, add in value for money and you’re on a winner, we all want great racing but great racing infront of a few fans with no atmosphere will be a negative fan experience, it’s the opposite for a TV audience as tv can’t capture atmosphere so relies on good racing , just think back when you went to away matches back in the day on a coach or with your teams fans and you watched a dull meeting with no passing and your team got battered but the 50 or so of you supported your team and had a blast creating an atmosphere, it was a good fan experience, it didn’t matter what happened inside the fence

I’m sure this will be a quiet thread! Fixture now confirmed. Weather forecast looks abysmal for the South and South West next week which won’t help. No idea on the team or any guess for us Gladiators. Poole going to look for a guest for Worrall or operate R/R? Unfortunately I feel this has come at the worst time with Hans now also out. Leaves just Morley, Complin and Coles currently fit and available. I’m sure other people will find this as a great cause of humour but as a Gladiator fan, I’ve found this season deeply frustrating with our injury issues. Personally speaking, I’d rather have our own riders to support than constantly changing guests every meeting but that was the hand we were dealt. It’s still been a great season for the club despite all the trials and tribulations. We shall kick on in 2023 I’m sure. Poole should be too strong, probably over both legs. Hopefully we can get two big crowds for these meetings.

Both legs of the final last year were big old crowds, I went to Peterborough and the place was rammed. Two great meetings too. Not sure it's the Play Offs that are the issue, more the four months of dross which precede it.

OK here goes- I contacted Reg Fearman. Arthur does not use e-mail, but Reg took the trouble to contact Pam Warren ( ex-spouse of Graham Warren) , and also Peter White the Australian journalist and member of the Australian Speedway community and they both confirm Arthur is 99.. So it looks like he WAS indeed born in 1923. I will update his birthdate the next time we update the oldest World Finalist list. It's great speedway people are so helpful, particularly as some are getting up there in age. I was glad to see so many forumlanders wanted to ensure this was corrected

It's only logical really if as people have suggested Glasgow move up (their set up deserves highest level but they'd lose local derbies and I'm not sure the highest level is as interesting or competitive as CL) and if Edinburgh either can't get new Stadium sorted in time or more likely can't use Armadale for at least part of the season until it is ready. Then presumably Brennan as an asset would ride for Glasgow in top league and Pickering would need a Club in the CL too. Both then would have most weekends free for Poland or European International opportunities. I have to say whilst applauding everything Nigel and his new team have done that the losses he has admitted too very openly are just not sustainable in any sensible assessment. Ball park 150-200 k for 2021 has been quoted. Its possible costs may be cut more but I doubt either Brennan or Pickering would take a pay cut to ride for Brummies and may cost more than we have. I just can't see crowds rising substantially so the only option, which Nigel has mentioned would be to either bring in new Directors (he said two) or new Sponsorship (presumably by a new Promoter or Specialist - possibly Lee Kilby/ who is very popular at PB) Theres a lot of if's and but's there, IF Glasgow go up, if Edinburgh don't run and equally IF Brummies do run. Disagree with moving cut off dates for one track but points should have been given to Plymouth as they were prepared to give it a go.

By all accounts Swindon Geyhounds will shut in Jan..So no Swindon Speedway for the foreseeable future...Just got to wait for Swindon Speedway and Tomlinson statement about searching for a new venue that has no chance of happening but will be liked by the same fools who thought the Stadium would be built.Gaming int have done it again.and closed another speedway track down

Don’t think it matters really, both sets of riders have been at each other's tracks enough times to know what they need to do and both could be prepared differently from the cup meetings but that quite often catches the home riders out. Leicester are a very strong side, some would say the strongest in the league so it will be close but if we can beat them in the cup it will give us confidence for the playoffs.

A 3 match Test Series would be even better... The Speedway Ashes....
