  2. I can assure you that the Facenna's will not go down that road again, once bitten twice shy, sick of all the comments about Glasgow trying to buy the league, a lot of envious supporters from other clubs, who forget we were almost down and out until the Facenna's came on board,

  3. Well, he COULD make a start in the first meeting, slide gently off and they could have a facility for the rest of the year!

  4. Redcar would have to sign another rider.

  5. To clarify, my comment was not in any way a dig at Glasgow, you pay well, but I wasn’t referring to that. I was simply saying that Chris Harris WILL be on a guarantee, just like virtually every other big rider in the Championship has been for the last few seasons. The ‘cap’ on it will be for payments from the club only. Bomber had a sponsor at Berwick this season who paid him a guarantee, in agreement with the club. This will be no different this year, you can’t stop a rider from getting sponsorship money after all. You can stop a club from paying a rider too much, but you can’t stop a rider from being paid too much.

  6. Guarantees are limited and points capped at £90 this year! There going to be very strict about it.

  9. Tell the gullible ones anything. Winning is a bonus that’s all it is all about earning potential. Trophies are more for the fans.

  10. Do you REALLY think the riders are in it for the trophies more than the money?…….Oh dear!…..

  11. Basically riders are self employed mercenaries and will go for the best deal for them which is probably fair enough. The only positives in having assets is you receive a loan fee and the value of the rider is offset on your BSPL bond.

  12. Really…depends on Vissing for me is key if last year was a one off then its a decent side but if Complin and Pijper are the reserves thats really really weak

  15. I wish everyone would just admit that they definitely don’t know what the deals are between riders and clubs. Pure supposition in all cases from people pretending to be in the know.

  16. I am sure if Bomber is back at Glasgow, he will make amends for his last time, when he came with unreliable equipment, he will not be on a guarantee so will need to earn his dosh by getting points, so people need to give him a chance to prove himself

  17. All looks well on paper but once Mulford has a couple of 3 ride nights the mood in camp will change. Im with the Shanes weak link camp and once he drops to reserve its a poor trapping 6&7. That said if all riders click this team will dish out some hammerings both home and away.

  21. I don't think they are all moaning. I am sure one or two might be motivated by nothing more than spite but for some - including me - it is a question of whether allowing a discount is justifiable given the parlous state of speedway's finances. Why should the average pensioner get a discount when their disposable income - according to at least one study - is higher than a non pensioner ? That's not an unreasonable point. You are right that it is a business decision and that alone. I'm not sure precisely what the discount is but, as an example, if one person currently paying £16 walks away, you have to ensure that four others pay £20 just to break even. That's a gamble that might well not be worth taking.

  25. My biggest worry about James Shane’s is his own confession that he wasn’t fully fit and was going to give 2023 a miss on the speedway to get his body right again. Think it was a Speedway Star report a few weeks back. That could come back to bite both James & Redcar. Hope it’s not a repeat of Adam Roynon last year. Fingers crossed all is good.

  27. Your reply is bang on, the riders need to make a living and even an extra £10 a point can make a massive difference over a season they also have to take travel time to their home track into consideration for example if a rider lived in Doncaster, rode for Sheffield in the PL and Scunthorpe in the Championship he gets to spend a lot more time with his family than if he rode for say Ipswich and Glasgow it also means fewer nights in hotels and less diesel in his van. Above all riders need to be happy on a home track that they ride well with a good promotion who will back them if their form drops. Its a dangerous sport with a short career and when the time comes to hang up the kevlars what matters most is how much money is in the bank not how many trophies are on the mantlepiece

  28. I supported IOW's decision to pull out of the NDL and I support it now. I would, however, very much like to see them rejoin. While all of what you have said is true regarding expenses and regulations, I don't think that IOW had an issue with any of it. The problem was that the members of the NDL were not allowed to make their own rules but had no say in regulations - principally a points limit - that were forced on them to their detriment and to the benefit of higher clubs who had no financial involvement in the NDL whatsoever. Had that not happened, I am firmly convinced that they would still be part of the BSPA fold. Selfishness, stupidity and incompetence therefore cost British Speedway its most innovative, forward thinking and customer focussed club, although I am certainly aware of at least one other occasion when the Warriors promotion were deeply unhappy about the way they were treated. As it is - and despite attempts to undermine their operation and sniping from some -they are doing pretty well. 2021 was hugely successful on and off track and, if 2022 did not hit the same heights, the report I got was that attendances were 'good'. For a club like Mildenhall, struggling to cope with the present set up, this surely could be an option.

  32. Can’t believe the reaction to Brennan’s message..it’s just a look back at the season and leaving the Rising Star system..in no way does it read like a farewell…he will be back at Belle Vue

  33. The Scenario we have is this... Speedway at a brand new purpose built stadium... On the same site that has showcased the sport for decades... In a well populated town where pretty much everyone will have heard of Swindon Speedway at some stage... With a great many of them knowing exactly where it is and will at some stage have visited.... And also got decent crowds which were some of the best in the country... Isn"t "viable".... Yet.. Building a completely new track "somewhere" within a 45 minute radius of this well populated town with a tradition for following Speedway in numbers, seemingly WILL be "viable"... All very "strange" isnt it? Are the dogs still going by the way? As wasnt that the issue Swindon Speedway wouldnt be viable..? If so, I presume the dogs will go with them "somewhere" within a 45 minute radius too, as they appear to be fundamental to Speedways success..

  40. Richard Lawson not signing then. I heard the deal was done in September.

  41. I think the salient sentence is "when he got banned". So this is a rider that breaks rules, by inference cannot be relied upon to do what he should, and presumably would be a negative for team spirit. Not many incentives to sign him, I think.

  43. My local foodbank are not supplying me with the quality or quantity of wine that I believe I am entitled to . Things would I am sure be a lot different under a Labour Government they appreciate such problems . They know that the Tories have bought up all the good stuff with the money accumulated from avoiding tax just leaving the ordinary bloke to make do with Vin Ordinaire

  44. I hope Mildenhall can sort something out because it's a great little venue for a Sunday afternoon out, but they MUST sort the long drawn out meetings and the high number of falls. Folk are obviously voting with their feet, get the product right and they are likely to return.

  46. All the above are valid points but Mildenhall have largely always been in the same situation and mostly got decent meetings on most weeks with only one or two bloopers a season. Sadly now its reversed and one or two good meetings is clearly not enough to keep crowd numbers up. Sunday tracks will always be good for NDL riders but not if preparation is poor. Mildenhall lack the right equipment and approach to produce decent racing now. The giant tractors do more harm than good lap after lap and attempting to create a grippy surface on a track with very little run off is always going to cause problems (especially as it just makes it patchy) . A slick surface might create a bit of dust but it would also pump meetings through in a sensible time frame.

  49. That in a nutshell sums up ALL that is wrong with BSPL and British Speedway. Belle Vue bought him over, presumably made him an asset, invested in him, as dod local sponsors etc. He then sought to further his delelopment elsewhere outside the UK whilst remaining loyal to BV as an asset. IF BV want to bring him back then he should be on his perfectly correct and earned average. That's life, that's sport, that should be speedway. NOT factor it by a mystery number drawn up on the back of a Scunthorpe Rain Off Ticket to appease Bates and Louis or anyone else. The whole point of the asset system is to build talent isn't it? If it gives BV an advantage, so what, may be it will make a few others a bit less lazy and try to make things happen rather than moan when nothing good happens to them. This is what INDEPENDENT GOVERNANCE would bring. Fairness for ALL, and reward for enterprise.
