  1. See what Ipswich have done there. Saved a few hundred on a new race suit & permanent-markers a line down the 'a' & written 'o' 'n'. Thomas >Thompson Just got Emil & Jason in the team but can't afford a race-suit for the new guy the cheap b@stereds Tin pot club

  7. Now all teams are finished can revise my prediction: 1. Sheffield 2. Belle Vue 3. Kings Lynn 4. Wolverhampton 5. Ipswich 6. Peterborough 7. Leicester Edited 24/3 - realised Belle Vue will get lots of bonus points

  8. Why would any rider choose to pay for a race suit in team colours over their own (especially when they could be dropped at any time and render said suit equally redundant). Would you walk into a tailors and select a bright pink suit just because everyone said they would by one.....

  9. Never saw that coming. attitide goes a long way in this sport and it’s cost rowe and kemp a place. hopefully they will learn from this. good luck Joe

  10. You never know Norman, I can honestly say at the moment I don't remember, the great thing about Wembley was that everybody seemed to get on with everybody else, it was like a great annual social event. I was a fan of Ove and enjoyed my trips to Norwich, and I nearly peeed myself as a second-halfer at Long Eaton one night when Ove's bike packed up and he borrowed my bike and went and won the race in his usual time and gave me a display of how my bike should be ridden. Needless to say it was never ridden again like that. Sadly some of my memories of fifties and sixties got affected by a fractured skull in '66. Loads of empty patches in my memory. I know there was a lad near us at Wembley who reckoned he was gonna win a fortune on a TV programme. I wonder if he ever did.

  11. Not being biased, I fancy us to catch the Witches cold here, I would've predicted Ipswich to win if the meeting was taking place a few weeks into the season though. Emil & Rew will be riding the track for the first time in a competitive meeting, It'll be Emil's first match back from a seasons ban while the other is returning from a recent injury so they may not score as highly, With Ipswich' reserves it's a team built where the 1-5 has to fire on all cylinders. As for Peterborough both Andersen & Worrall go well around Ipswich, Basso likes the place too going on his showings last season, If Ben Cook can score a few then I fancy a narrow win. Ipswich 44 - 46 Panthers

  13. Stop changing the goalposts. Rowe can be really good, just been very inconsistent so far in his career. Poole will be strong as always.

  14. Poole deserve credit for signing a British rider instead of another Australian. Rowe is not unlike Thomas, has shown glimpses of great potential but injuries have cropped up at the wrong time. A bit like Kemp in that he's sometimes not been seen as a team player. It's a great chance for him to kick on, hopefully he will grasp it. Be great to see Jack back too at some point.

  15. Finnish final Pyynikin Stadium, Tampere, 1 p.m. Saturday 11th March 1. Mats Järf, VaMK 14+3 2. Matti Isoaho, OMK 10+2+2 3. Christer Biskop, KPMK 14+1 4. Heikki Huusko, KaMK 11+3+0 5. Rami Systa, JaMoKe/UA 0 18 Tommi Suolammi (reserve) dnr Spent an enjoyable weekend in Finland, to take in this event. A packed crowd in the grandstand and open back straight seating had a great time, in what may well be the final such event in the stadium. Mats Järf showed his quality in being the ultimate winner following an opening heat collision with Atte Suolammi, which left him writhing on the ice in a great deal of pain, for several minutes. Following an ambulance ride he returned for the rerun. Possible premeeting favourite Max Koivula, never recovered from an opening heat ef, and another in his third ride before showing his quality with a showboating win in his final race. This left Järf, the deserved winner coming from the back in each race to claim the title. My predicted winner, Heikki Huusko, following a great start gradually slipped back to finish 4th, as Järf, went in the opposite direction to take the spoils,

  20. All makes good sense based on "what we know now" - However, which clubs/promotions will have the cash/courage/ability to ring the changes if things don't go according to plan? Or which promoters/team managers do we think have put a team together which they feel will not make the playoffs and thus do nothing about improving their prospects once the season is well under way. For me Leicester (SD) will not stand idle should playoff prospects look bleak - for that reason alone Lions will be in top 4.

  22. Think both go hand in hand really, I've always liked team race suits, but no way should a rider pay for them, one form or another of sponsorship is essential, commercial or fans, just shows that all clubs need a good promotion to sort it.

  23. Personally love them and gave the boys a real sense of being a team

  24. Harder to compare as they are built more differently, Oxford obviously stronger at the top, but weaker at the bottom. I figured Edinburgh were the closest match to Birmingham for how they built their teams

  25. For guest cover ive always liked the jerseys printed up to look like the race suit, which is why ive always been surprised no team has gone for just the jerseys. Im going big with £50 each and get 20 in as riders will lose, forget, ruin them. Still only £1000 and creates better unity whilst still allowing individuality of a riders own suit underneath.

  34. Belle Vue - Outstanding no 1 with a solid looking team right down the order, Lidsey and Brennan are the key in my opinion but look very likely to make the play offs. Ipswich - Excellent top two but have question marks in a few positions lower down, they will need King to get back to his best and Rew to kick on to do any good. Kings Lynn - Solid looking team right down the order but look to be lacking in the heat leader department, to many question marks for my liking and not sure Jakobsen will save them either. Leicester - Gone for the top heavy look but have paid the price at the bottom which looks very suspect, Fricke and Harris will score good points everywhere but the key will be Lawson and Morris. Peterborough - Plenty of experience but I think it will come down to how well the middle order go, Basso and Cook have potential but question marks remain against Andersen and Worrall. Sheffield - Another solid looking team headed by a good no 1 but they are clearly banking on Bellego to step up and Kerr to produce last years form, they do look likely to make the play offs. Wolverhampton - Same old same old at Monmore but to do any good they need serious improvement from Becker and Douglas, I think they will hold their own at MG but could struggle on the road.

  45. That was horrendous as Ellis and Morris had appeared in the semis! It's a part of the sport over here, but a terrible part, and there's a reason the best league in the world doesn't use them.

  47. Mid 1960’s there loads of tracks, Manchester area was swamped with them, most have gone now. Must admit though, the modern day tracks I see on you tube etc look very professional, not all were like that back “when I was a young lad”.
