  1. Hopefully Wolves will win,, just like Worky did before closing down,,, and the just like Worky come back with a new venue and a fantastic speedway track

  2. Wasnt banned from the RS list, just clearly too good, that should be seen as a good thing surely. You also got a hefty average ruduction for him which allowed strength in other areas

  3. Agreed. Simple instructions with an example of what to write would encourage more to do it.

  4. Its a knockout had credibility and kudos in winning... If UK Speedway had ran it, it would be... "Tonight representing France is"... "Italy"....

  5. He probably turned up because he knew he would get it in the neck if he didn’t NOW PLEASE leave him alone - there are plenty other things to talk about

  6. That wasn't Laguta though (or not the real one that we know of). That was an ill prepared disgrace to the sport. If that's the limit of his attitude and professionalism then he should retire now. Class riders, with a few exceptions unfortunately, are on it all of the time and have personal pride. Last night's sham of a no1 had none of those qualities.

  8. I've seen this Boughen kid a couple of times in the last few days... and I can't really see what all the fuss is about to be honest

  9. Laguta drew me out of speedway retirement. First meeting in England for 5 years. And judging by the size of the crowd many others saw the attraction. I didn’t see anything wrong with his effort just slow equipment. Was impressed with the 16yr old. Although clearly lacking not surprisingly with gating at this level he was fast with a nice style and could develop into a promising rider. Can see why speedway in this country is on its knees. Same presentation, set up and music from 5 yrs ago. Racing is the key thing obviously, but entertaining a crowd surely has to be paramount in this day and age.

  10. If young Mr Campbell had foresight to predict that heat 14 outcome I think we should be asking him for the lottery numbers.

  11. Little known fact Charles Dickens favourite Speedway rider was Josh Pickwickering. I read it in the papers.

  12. Forget it. There is nothing like league teams racing. So please, not another individual series, we already have the SGP and the SEC, that is more than enough. Here in Germany we had the German Speedway Masters series, which was in principle run extactly like what You propose here, as a combined individual and club team competition. It lasted no longer than two years. Riders were missing most of the time and had to be replaced by others, it was just not worth following this.

  13. We know speedway in the UK is struggling but so are some clubs abroad in Sweden & Poland with non payment of riders. Rules & Regulations(SCB) are not enforced & open to interpretation. The BSP Ltd & other promoters have not helped themselves with self interest. But look at the main Issues of Landlords(ARC) charging unaffordable rent, land prices where housing development takes place & the general changing of interests(phones, social media, tiktok , influencers). Money is being used elsewhere. Look at your own towns & cities. How many schools have closed down & amalgamated with others to be one, parks even industrial areas now being sold on for "affordable housing"? What about the number of boarded up houses on estates that could have a bit of money spent on them by the councils & re-used.

  14. Who cares about Laguta’s score last night, we just need him to perform when Leicester come to Peterborough.

  15. I think with the huge merry go round of riders this season, that it has to be up there with one of the most ridiculous seasons ever. Harris getting the chop from Leicester, then moaning about it like a child and then guesting for them a month later is absolutely outrageous. It really is no wonder that nobody within the sport takes it seriously anymore. A s**t show of the highest order.

  16. After 55 years following speedway if we had no league speedway i would walk away from it.

  17. Bloody hell, I thought I'd accidently logged onto the BNP forum with all this "these bloody foreigners steelin' British jobs" rubbish. A change was needed, Adam had a lot of expectation on him this season and unfortunately it's not been met, I don't think anyone can deny that and it's hard to see a rider we all know is capable struggling. Hopefully some time off will do him some good and he can refocus and come back stronger, whether that be for Sheffield or another side. Lewi has been victim of averages. Which is a shame as he has been a constantly good performance and was forming good rides with woffy when they were paired together. Sort of Glad to see he's been immediately been picked up by Leicester, but could prove a real thorn in ours side if we meet Leicester at any point in the play offs.

  18. SHOWGROUND DEVELOPMENT. At last, the council has published AEPG's planning applications (there are two) to develop the showground. You can read and comment on the plans on the council's planning portal at https://www.peterborough.gov.uk/council/planning-and-development/planning-and-building/search-applications references 23/00400/OUT and 23/00412/OUT Note these are 'outline' applications so do not contain all the detail. That will follow in future applications. The council's outline application consultation is now open for 30 days.

  20. Here's part of the problem, all speedway riders are 'professional' - no one wants to be amateur. If you are starting out then you are an amateur. What's your point caller? Speedway needs new riders, whatever they are riding, wherever they are riding, they need to develop a pool of new riders. The cream will rise, but frankly the pool is so small they just need riders. Quite a few road racers start out on classic bikes. If the next top British star starts out riding his granda's old Jawa in an amateur upright meeting I would say that's certainly developing the next generation of rider. The obsession with the current team structure is offputting for newcomers - spectators and competitors.

  21. I’m no Poole fan, like most Poole fans aren’t Plymouth fans but to wish they lose there stadium is well out of order I like a dig at them, like they like a dig at others but not to that extent all I asked when I started this thread was if anyone new the lineups for Tommorow.

  22. So Lewis Kerr plays his part and I would say has done what is expected from him for Sheffield. Popular with all fans of Clubs he has ridden for. Sheffield looking good for play offs. Another GB rider callously tossed aside to accommodate an ageing Holder who has shown scant interest in riding in the UK in recent years and a Dane. Shocking state of affairs .

  23. No point pitching new ideas on a forum, many fans blame riders or the promoters for ruining the sport but most aren't open to new ideas themselves, all have some part of the blame for how poor the sport is now and will be in the future

  25. Good close meeting culminating in two 5-1s for the Monarchs to sneak the victory. Why no tac sub for Edinburgh in heat 14? In the end it didn't matter with Bastian riding a brilliant race, but it did seem a strange decision. Super ride from the skipper off the unproductive gate 1 in heat 15 and great to see Erik in the blue and gold again with an immaculate performance. Paco very good too.

  29. It's true to say that no British Speedway Club owns their stadium or the land on which it is built. Most ownerships can probably be traced back to City or Town Councils, and could be commandeered for building purposes as and when a Council decided to do so. Birmingham Wheels Park, a previous home of Birmingham Speedway, was designated as a motor sports venue on the strength of the Council deciding that it was the most toxic pieces of land in the City, but this has not prevented this same council from taking back the lease and now deciding that it should be used to build industrial units, with the usual platitude of offering to help find an alternative site for the wheeled sports which have now been evicted, being very quickly forgotten.

  30. UK Speedway is on the scrapheap and needs re-building. The first thing that needs to happen is it needs to get some credibilty back. It's about to lose another two clubs, both from the so called top flight, so this needs addressing first and foremost. It needs a new league structure, a Super League perhaps along the lines of the Danish structure, and please, get rid of guests!! Yesterday, Leicester plunged to a real low by sacking Harris one week and getting him in as a guest the next. How do you sell that or explain it to anyone new? Or to sponsors? In my opinion, Eurosport do a fantastic job and I enjoy watching GP's and the league. The Discovery App is first class. But they need to have something credible for the future. With the clubs that are left, it needs re-structuring quickly.

  31. By the way, I watch the Premiership on DISCOVERY+ and I enjoy it very much. British league speedway is certainly different to what we get to see from Poland, but it has a very unique charm, and the TV coverage of the SGB Premiership Speedway on DISCOVERY+ presented by Kelvin, Scotty and Abby is excellent.

  32. Unfortunately the future of Peterborough Speedway is tied up in a planning application when they ideally they would be two completely separate things. As I say, without looking at the documents yet (and I may think something different when I look, although unlikely) LP30 is all that we have to work with and that's where the focus probably needs to be, unless Mick knows different. It's hard to know what to say specifically without seeing AEPG's reasoning but I wouldn't given them any ammunition, so a general comment about LP30 and the loss to the city of Peterborough of an existing culture, leisure, tourism and community facility would at least register an objection at this early stage.

  33. You need to realise that because the Lions had done so well by the time the Morris situation occurred the points available for a replacement was very low and Batchelor was one of a very short list who would fit. No question that his signing didn't help matters at all, but to replace him there was a need to ship out two riders and bring two more in and one of those (Cook) proved ineffective. Meanwhile & by comparison Peterborough & Kings Lynn, having had a terrible start to the season had room, average wise, to bring in new riders who could improve the team. Sheffield lost a top scorer and used the points available via new signings & releasing low performers to create their new look team. Bottom line is that options available to the Stars, Panthers & Tigers have not been available to the Lions.

  34. There are big financial rewards already in place, which is the frustration... The Aces for example will have 12 meetings this year in the league itself.. At circa average £20 a punter, with around 1300 a week (maybe more as some good crowds this year), that would deliver over £300k... Seven teams delivering that as an average would generate well over £2.1M... And that is without sponsorship.. A huge amount for a sport that, in the grand scheme of things, hardly anyone has heard of... And, given it appears most clubs don't make "tens of thousands" of profit each season, you can only presume most of it goes to the riders... Smoke and Mirrors maybe but that kind of financial reward needs to be publicised to prick interest...

  35. Haven't looked myself yet but that's a good point. If people are going to object then it has to be consistent, targetted and factual. Any emotive guff is very nice and would be noted but otherwise ignored.

  36. Agree entirely. Apart from the GP's, never really been a fan of individual events. All about league racing for me and always will be. Just wish we could go back to the halcyon days of say Halifax riding at Cradley with all the rivalry and large crowds etc. Needs to be more a sense of belonging to a team for both riders and supporters and as MikeBV regularly points out, greater financial rewards for winning the league and a proper trophy to go with it.

  37. Agree, when it became a "plaything" for most of them, rather than a bona fide stand alone business, it started to become ran that way... The rot also set in though when they tried to keep running the sport the way they always did, after the internet had come along... Instant news nowadays.. You used to find out the biggest name wasn't going to be there after you had paid to get in... You used to find out that you were going to watch a guestfest when the announcer read out the teams.. You used to find out that the weather was poor when you got there rather than hours in front, or en route so you can turn around... And then moaned to a few people around you. Now, all its failings are there for all to see well in advance, and shared around thousands, not tens..... Hence many decide not to bother, depending on the circumstances....

  39. On paper we should get a result but I don’t trust us to do so. Gating is very important at Plymouth and we’ve got a side who’s not very good at it. Just need to wait and see I. Suppose.

  40. Depends on your definition of 'when it matters' I suppose but that's incredibly harsh. He's always been a racer and not a gater since he started racing.

  42. I really hope that either Belle Vue or Wolverhampton win the play offs. Along with Ipswich, they are the only teams that have not chopped and changed all season. Leicester, Sheffield, King's Lynn & Peterborough are not really " teams", just a random selection of riders bought together for a few matches. If Leicester or Sheffield win the play offs, it will make a complete mockery of the sport. Would be nice for Wolves to win, in what looks like their last season. They are the only team that have shown any loyalty to their riders over the past few years .

  44. Heard at the track that Artem's own engine is still stuck in Poland. He was using a club engine today. That explains everything. Picasso cannot paint using another person's brush. Laguta will be his usual self on Thuraday.

  46. Good statement from the club owners. I know this season has hurt them immensely as it has all those involved and support the Bandits and Bullets. Great to put all the silly rumours that has been floating around recently to bed and Speedway is back for its 56th ( I think ) year in 2024. An amazing achievement for a small town like Berwick. Good luck for the remainder of this season and beyond to everyone involved with Berwick Speedway
