So, with 4 days to go it seems to me that these are good times to be a Lions supporter. We have a new owner who has ploughed thousands into trying to remedy the track drainage problems, and whilst going about it, has installed a new training track to bring on the newcomers to the sport, and hopefully sustain speedway well into the future. We have a newly designed website that looks modern and has given the club a fresh new image; we have a new co promoter who has worked tirelessly throughout the winter to "get things done." Questions from the supporters to the management have been invited in preparation for press and practice day which suggests to me a new more open approach towards those of us that part with our hard earned week in week out. All it needs now is for us as supporters to get fully behind the new owner and co promoter and do our job in supporting the Lions for the new campaign. C'mon you Lions!!!3 points

Looks like it's a partnership between a local brewery (tractor shed ) and the comets, not promoting alcohol, just another sponsorship opportunity . Got to applaud the promotions forward thinking in getting different types of sponsorship2 points

I bet he'll be at reserve till June 17th lol! With big gaps in the fixture list, will take a while for all clubs to get new averages.2 points

I don't know what the rulebook says, just basing my answer on Plymouth using a (75%) guest for Dan T when he got injured before riding for them. Same thing happened when Poole didn't sign Smetana was it in 2021? When a team has "no facility" that no longer means a 3.00 rider, it means 75% of the missing riders average. Thanks to Diamonds85 for the correction.2 points

Thing is, even now, some riders love to ride out wide - often right up against the fence (we've seen certain riders actually USE the fence - so what do you do? By its very nature, speedway is a dangerous sport, and no amount of air fences, helmets, or padding will change that. In ANY motorsport, competitors will take chances, as they look for a little extra. Yes, it's risky, but that's why riders enjoy riding, and we enjoy watching ..1 point

https://x.com/brumspeedway/status/1767217438683287720?s=61&t=WGGG_bqEEeOH78cfmD9Reg They do I agree. But two things ruin it. Firstly the obvious one, you can’t have one of your septet absent on press day, it completely ruins the whole point of the day and has made the promotion of the new season a farce. Pawlicki SHOULD have been there to fulfil media duties and commitments, have your “medical appointment” tomorrow ffs. Secondly, they should have also had matching bike livery like most other clubs do. That picture above looks a bit of a mishmash mess.1 point

Swindon fans should put their comments against Osbournes latest application and insist that the fly be night completes the whole stadium as the original planning permission here https://pa.swindon.gov.uk/publicaccess/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=RWYWO9PT0EE001 point

I did hear the match against us could be in doubt due to track but they have since had good weather so hopefully they have sorted it now. but it does seem weird they have not put any pictures up of the finished track yet. when is your P&P btw1 point
-
Agree with all of that! I got sent a photo of the track a few weeks ago and it was a right mess, I'm sure it's been sorted now ! I'm hopeful we can see some racing on Thursday.1 point

Depends on how much said promoter takes the piss... everyone has a value and it should be acknowledged. And if the promoter is going to hand out below value offers he's just going to get rejection after rejection... not saying this is robs philosophy as I have no idea what goes on in the background but...1 point

Apologies....perhaps, I should've made clear that my opinion is different to that of the O.P....there was no negative intent towards Oxford support.1 point

Rogers is working his magic....he'll let you know after you've set-off on Thursday evening? Standard!1 point

If by hammering a hampered/weakened/non-competitive opposition, increases crowd figures, then my 'entertainment' expectancy/desire must be totally different to Oxford's!?1 point

He looked very good at P&P yesterday at Redcar. Don’t think he will be at reserve for long from what I saw. Just my opinion though.1 point

This is a most interesting thread- a subject I knew nothing about. Thanks everybody for doing the research particularly our Polish friend Puma from Poland which is now the real heart of speedway-at least that's how it seems to me.1 point
-
Poland is the place to be though if you want to earn good money and really improve, not sure it's possible to be 'too fixed' on riding there. Any rider with ambition wants/needs to race there.1 point

When you hear who Rogers has lined up to cover for Pawlicki, you’ll be looking to amend that!…… …. to 25 just hope the authorities step in and say guest facility granted to at least make it semi competitive1 point

Dodgy Tel announces he's found a perfect new place for Speedway, so it's OK to knock the Abbey down. Dopey Swindon council fall for this, and allow the Abbey Stadium to be knocked down and houses built. Tel Boy hits a snag and the perfect new stadium can't be built after all. Swindon council say "never mind, you tried your best" Osbourne hands a brown envelope each to Tel Boy and the Council leader. Osbourne moves on to rinse and repeat at the next town.1 point

Agree to disagree. saying joe found it tough, probably too soon for him to be riding at this level is being realistic, calling an 18 year old kid awful is unnecessary imo.1 point

I’ve not seen it personally but I think the banking is now a constant gradient instead of flattering out 2/3 of the way up.1 point

They’re starting early to ensure that all of those blank weeks in the middle of the summer when it’s lovely weather outside and prime conditions for speedway, everybody can sit round and do nothing to allow for 3 matches in a week and double headers in September and October. All part of the plan!1 point

Yes, but it's Rogers doing the signing...so ??? I wonder how many B'ham fans feel inspired to travel to Oxford this Thursday? All we can do is pray for rain!0 points
