  1. Not sure why we need to bother about a superheat now there is an aggregate bonus point... For Brum, that could feel like a defeat, which, considering the challenges they face, gives a negative spin to the night. Which they don't need... After 15 heats the match ends in a draw. What's wrong with that? You may as well run just one heat and end the night, given the match starts nil-nil... Use the superheat for a tie overall maybe over the two legs, but let a draw be a draw... Neither team did enough to win in the meeting itself, team v team, so let that be the result...

  2. The track was very wet from overnight and morning rain, and although I was there before 4pm, I didn't see any water being added. It did seem a bit greasy and this probably made passing more difficult. I thought we caught Sheffield cold in the early stages and were able to twice build up a ten point lead, but Sheffield always looked to be capable of catching us up, and being able to use Tai Woffinden four times in the last six races (including the superheat) was hugely to their advantage - although fair play to their team manager for reading the situation rightly. I didn't think Birmingham's Team Manager made any blunders. He might have made a couple of late changes but these probably wouldn't have affected the final outcome. In my opinion, the superheat spoiled the meeting. What is wrong with a drawn match anyway? Both clubs and their supporters would have gone home happy with a draw, so why ruin things for half of them with a daft rule that very few people ever wanted introduced in the first place? (That's not sour grapes, and I congratulate Sheffield on their win which I think they perhaps just about deserved, but I was delighted with the size of the crowd which was a great relief and was well deserved by a promotion which has worked so hard to keep speedway in Birmingham, and by the enthusiasm displayed - made so much better by Sheffield's happy and noisy contingent. This I think, justifies the gamble to move up to the Premiership, and will hopefully lead to more entertaining meetings like this one.

  3. The Superheat seriously favours teams with two big hitters and as it’s said when you have an aggregate bonus point up for grabs it isn’t necessary.

  4. Largest it has been for over 10 years ... Very Very encouraging . I am guessing here but it must be around the break even figure the promoters often talk about ..

  5. Not sure what the score will be but I reckon KL will win fairly comfortably. Not as convinced with the Leicester team as some people seem to be.

  6. I hate the super heat. There I said it. Completely deflates the side that hard earned a draw.

  7. It was a good meeting to watch though not much overtaking, Birmingham put in a good effort to take the points, but in the end were beaten by 2 GP riders showing there ability this will be the Brummies weak spot at the end of meetings, very impressed with Milik and Flint, and feel there will be more and better to come from Cook and Worrall, my biggest concern would be Lampart, however it's early days and not fair to judge on this meeting, Brum are one top heat leader short of being challengers sort that out and they will be up there.

  10. At a risk of attracting howls of disapproval, can I just say that, for an adult who wants to sit, under cover, to watch speedway, Berwick are offering the best deal in the Championship. Especially when you take the 10% early-bird discount. Only £18 -- and you could bring a couple of young teenagers in with you free. I'm not going to list all the other clubs' prices -- that's their business -- but the Jewson Bandits are certainly offering the best deal around this year. Oh, and parking's free, too...........

  11. Yeah this '75% guest rule' is in the 2024 rulebook under no facility, so at worst Plymouth could just get a guest up to 5.87 avg. Looking at a list of these riders from what I can see aren't already riding on Saturday; Castagna Heeps Atkins Lambert Mountain Knudsen Bailey etc.

  13. Regardless of whether or not sheff are one of the favourites they were away from home and to come back like they did deserves praise, two meetings into the season and they get dissed at every opportunity.speedways a tough sport as it is,tigers will start to show the form they are capable of make no mistake..i personally don't think there are any so called "weak teams" at all this season and think it's going to be a lot closer than people think, which I hope it is as it makes it much more exciting.

  14. Now before the match, I think Birmingham would have been delighted with a point. But after leading by 10 points a couple of times, this has to be a major disappointment. Again the lack of changes by Ermolenko has to be discussed, now he didn't make any awful choices, but you have to question Lampart being left in heat 12, Brennan not being in heat 15, and then even after losing a 5-1 not being picked for the "stupid heat".

  21. Then build top heavy? If not, you have 15 heats to avoid a “superheat”, if you can’t, tough. Birmingham were 10 points up, twice and still didn’t win. That’s their fault. Every club and every supporter knows the rules, if you finish level after 15 heats then it’s a superheat. I’m in the minority it seems reading the comments on here, I’ve no problem with that. I have my own opinion and won’t be swayed by others. For me it adds drama, you gain an extra heat with the 4 best riders on show for your money. OK it sucks if you’re on the wrong end of it, but if you’re on the winning end there’s no better feeling. A couple of seasons ago we had it twice at Ipswich and they were the lasting memory of the entire season for me personally. At the end of the superheats, strangers were hugging each other all over the place, you’d think we’d just won the title there and then! The place was buzzing. I’m all for anything that creates an extra bit of excitement. Birmingham didn’t lose their point for “drawing” did they? They still took their point.

  24. Hopefully Puk brings his gating gloves, otherwise I think Richard Lawson will get the better of him in 2 and 8, and if I remember right, Toby has taken a heat or 2 to get going although I'm probably wrong, other than that, I think tofty, Ben and tarasenko should get the better of their opposite numbers, Anders Rowe should do better than both of Leicesters reserves, and then its down to Patrick,if he does well , 50-40 or there abouts
    1 point
  25. Toby should double his score from the Leicester meeting so if the rest of the team match their scores that will give us 48 pts which would be enough for the win plus the bonus point although I’m hoping for at least a 50-40 winning margin. Can’t remember when I last looked forward to a meeting as much as this one.

  26. There is only seven teams in the league, no need for added points here and there, you need to try and keep the overall points down so they are as close as possible to the eye. But you know how it works, we must have these silly gimmicks to keep the interest going in the short term, even if it damages it in the long.

  31. Plus its very early days, I always think it takes a few meetings for men and machines to get into a rhythm. In an ideal world we would spar like Poland do so that everyone is in the full swing of things when league matches begin.

  32. Sheffield fans on social media hailing the comeback should look at why they needed to make that comeback and getting a draw at the possibly weakest side isn’t exactly a good result Holder snr has been poor either winning or last and 9 points from 8 rides is a shocking return for a third heat leader. Couple this with the fact the reserves are one of the weakest and Jack isn’t flying yet means it’s been a poor start for Sheffield But well done Birmingham a backs against the wall jobs and a good result

  36. Good effort from both teams on a gaters track, hence first and lasts, Woffy had some speed, way faster than anyone else, but got away with not sitting still at tapes3 times. Poor ref. Not sure about Miliks lay down in run off ht, think he saw out of control Jack launch across track who only stayed on by Scottys ability to stay upright when others would have fallen. A big call for the ref if Scott had of gone down as would not have been all four back. If Pawlicki can get 10 points and Lampart and Worrall a couple more points each Brum will hold their own at home

  37. Feel for Brum. If anyone should’ve been disqualified from the super heat it should’ve been Holder, shot across the track and into the side of Scotty

  41. A bit late but a few thoughts about the decision to raise the limit to allow Edinburgh to fit in Max Perry. 1) i'm absolutely delighted Max has got a NL team & think it would have been a travesty for a 16 year old improving rider in his first Champ season to miss iut on a place in the development league. 2) I'm very impressed that the fellow promoters agreed to a rule change that directly hurts their own chances at glory. 3) I think its rediculous to change a rule after the AGM. Mainly because its shows a complete lack of thought & planning. Did they not consider whcih riders could miss out, perhaps it's just easier & "lazy" to just pick a low points limit, create a weak league & hope it works for developing riders. For example a developing 16 year old on a 7+ average almost misses out, but "journeymen" riders who will never make it on lower averages, will have no such issues gaining a team place. Now I have zero issues with these older / more experienced / doing it for a hobby type riders racing in the NL, just feel these rider sgaining a spot over the likes of Perry goes against the supposed point of the lower points limit (development). They coulkd have picked rider gradings based on ability & experience, a % reduction based on experience to help "developing" riders, rather than the quick an easy option of "let's lower the points limit" . 4) Edinburgh could have fitted in Perry by not signing Wood or Watson for example. So in the future, whats to stop a team picking a rider just over the points limit and asking for the limit to be increased?

  44. I know guest's & rider replacement are at times annoying within the British leagues. But we cannot be compared to other nations league system where they opperate a squad of upto 20 riders but can only track 7 just the same as our programme. In both cases if a rider is injured or unable to start then of course a full 7 rider team must be arranged. With a squad this is done as in football by rotation of the squad members. Our system means each team has a nominated 7 rider team & should one be missing we track a full team using guests or R/R. At the end of the day it amounts to the same thing two teams of seven racing against each other. Weather you love or hate our system it's better to see two full sides of seven than a five man team
    1 point
  45. I disagree, can't see any major sponsorship deal being scuppered by the use of guests. If guest use were sold by virtue of Speedway needing the system because it is so dangerous and the injury rate so high it is impossible to keep a reasonably level playing field without them it could even be seen as a positive by some brands. Where it would be a more difficult sell could be if guests are used to cover riders who are competing elsewhere.
