Just caught up with this last night and I've got to say what an absolutely brilliant advert for British Speedway! Two full teams, no R/R, no guests, great racing, all riders showing total commitment, a great race track, a bit of controversy, a close scoreline all night and beautiful summer weather. I hope it was good to watch live as it was on BSN. FWIW I thought Riss saw Brennan coming in the final heat and made an early turn to cut back up the inside of him as he would have gone wide but his leg was caught by Brennan so as a neutral I can see how it could have gone either way with the ambiguous "cause of the stoppage" rule. Pawlicki's attempt at team riding in heat 12 was also noteworthy, he seemed to want to push MPT into the path of Magic as he could see they were both going to be passed, I don't think MPT appreciated it though, clearly shaking his head after the incident! ... The trouble is though with this being a great advert for British Speedway, it was very much the exception to the rule. If more meetings followed this blue print I don't think the sport would have the problems it does, I know it's difficult with rider injuries etc but this is the standard of Speedway match that needs to be attained. When I attend a Speedway match and I see dust coming from the track in heat 1 my heart often sinks as I realise we're going to be in for a night of gate and go follow the leader Speedway... but for some reason not at Oxford, every time I've been since the re-opening (4 or 5 times) the track has always been like this and it's produced some great action. From what I've seen on my travels and watching on BSN it regularly produces the best action of the "British" style tracks.6 points

That's a bit over the top, how many Championship reserves have 6.00 averages? Now you could say he's no longer a heat leader & needs to be a second string. But in Plymouth's strength in depth side, that's not gonna happen (this year at least). He'd also still be a heat leader at Berwick & Redcar too!3 points

If Redcar win today, taking 3 points,we are also well in the mix.Glasgow lads won’t know if to stick or twist3 points

How many Championship riders rely on Championship in GB as their major earner. You might be surprised. For the sake of British Speedway we might need to call their bluff and give them an ultimatum.Quite sure a lot of them would have too think about at their level.3 points
-
We need to do that by bringing the world class riders back, rather than by diluting the quality of the Championship.3 points

Super Heat was great, but apart from Masters passing Etheridge off the 3rd /4th bend in Ht 13 most races were decided down the back straight 1 st lap close score kept the excitement in the meeting though.Drew the only consistent Bandits have.2 points
-
That Super Heat was something special Fair play to Kemp Kerr and Nicholls for giving us a humdinger for the second and third places Masters way in front but the Berwick pair were passed by Scotty at times who threw everything at them but credit the two K's for Bandits2 points

Good job nobody was all over social media demanding that this one be called off because of the unavailability of riders... just saying (tin hat donned)2 points

Last time i went to Plymouth (2023) sat in a very comfortable new seat in a 400 seater grandstand on Home Straight just under Refs Box with a cracking view and had some top quality BBQ nosh too. Far superior to some old and delapidated Venues still going!2 points

Ultimately it shows how daft the sport can be at times. Workington and Glasgow chasing the final Play Off spot and 2 of Glasgow’s riders are here riding for us to try and take 3 points2 points

Oxford has always been a good racetrack before it closed and now. Seen some terrific meetings there. As for Riss he had to do it for the team, otherwise he would have been passed, it was a gamble that paid off. Janowski on the other hand was given no room by Freddie and brushed the fence although not sure if they touched, great ride from him and good to see him riding well again.2 points

Well done to Redcar on the win however I’ll take our 10 point defeat all considered! Some very close racing tonight with the dirt like right on the air fence towards the end of the meeting making for brave moves. Jenkins certainly done his job as a guest and Ace although wasn’t in the big points wasn’t disgraced even against that level of opposition. Man of the meeting was Troy Batchelor he’s been superb for us all year and tonight he rolled back the years looked great on the bike. My only criticism of Redcar wasn’t the meeting itself it’s a few of their supporters who stand on the home straight stand who now always seem to have a little cry and a sulk (happened on our last few visits now) because we put our Comets flag/banners up, relax we pay to get in and spend money on food bar etc if your that offended cheer louder… We took a beating by Poole who made plenty of noise and had flags etc up it’s nothing to get upset about personally I like to see away support when track visit Workington adds to the atmosphere. So next time don’t get so uptight I can guarantee everyone who stood there is friendly and up for a crack . Well done on your win, here’s to tomorrow!2 points

The new and nearby EE phone tower interferes with the frequency of the microphone/speakers. Tonight Vs Plymouth they lowered the frequency to stop the tower from interfering, therefore the sound was a lot clearer tonight.2 points

For me, the clear standout rider of the night was by far Luke Harrison. Tonight he was fast, hard and very aggressive and was also unlucky to miss out on a few extra points. Was a rocket from the gate! Also, how on earth did Allen stop on the bike in heat 9?!?!?!? Poor from Barker especially after saying that Scunny are a team of "one track ponies" which is a fair comment based off our dodgy away result, but not a comment you should be making when you've scored 4 points, look far too overweight and are simply not at the pace. Great night of fantastic racing with the score line not being a fair representation of the efforts from some of the Plymouth riders.2 points

To be fair the racing was far better than the score line might suggest2 points

Always better to use R/R at the birth, rather than at the conception.2 points
-
It would make a lot more sense to give each team an equal number of guaranteed first choice race nights, but I know that's far too simple and logical to be considered.2 points

I thought starke rode similar at Redcar Only difference he didn't score as much I dont look at what the rider scores but the effort they put in He certainly tried hard today1 point

Read 12.1.6 to 12.1.8. 12.1.6 makes it clear the exclusion was wrong [it was not an unsatisfactory start without exclusion- Lasse got excluded] 12.1.7 makes it clear that an exclusion under 12.1.6 is a starting offence 12.1.8 allows replacement/15m h'cap for all offences defined under 12.1.71 point
-
Firstly what reg was Killeen excluded under? The reporting seems to imply it was 12.1.6. If so it does not apply in this case as Lasse Fredriksen was excluded. If he was indeed excluded under 12.1.6 then this is a stating offence (see 12.1.7) and as such a replacement (or 15 m h'cap) is available under 12.1.81 point

Assets don't matter in this context. You have to be declared in a team.1 point

Well I would hope so but if he keeps it up he'll be pushing over 7 average. Next season will be a strange one. Cookie will keep his place and I would love to see tate and vuolas back but it may be difficult with cookie pushing 9 and those two on 7s. One things for sure, I definitely want tate and vuolas back as they are exciting to watch around our track.1 point

Riders are basically self employed so you can't stop them an extra earning potential. But it only highlights how ridiculous our sport can be . If in particular Bomber and Flint have good meetings for Workington today , then they severely damage their own club's play off chances1 point

So 5 on initial Glasgow team racing at Workington today, only Jack Smith and Steve Worrall missing, crazy stuff considering we are fighting both teams for that 4th play off spot1 point

If I knew it was going to be a Workington/Glasgow select side I might have made the journey down1 point

Workington weren’t allowed a facility for Claus Vissing. They were only allowed to replace him with a NDL rider which Ace is with Sheffield/Scunthorpe1 point

I guess the teams are the same tonight apart from Zach Cook at 1 for Plymouth1 point

I would rate the spectator facilities at Plymouth as good as, if not better, than the ones at Scunthorpe! The track is another matter!1 point

So with Workington,Redcar and Glasgow potentially vying for the final 4th place playoff spot we have 3 Glasgow riders guesting in a Workington v Redcar match.Only in speedway!!!1 point

Excellent debut from William Cairns as expected. Good Colts win… look forward to seeing William’s progress over the next few years1 point

Genuinely, I had the opportunity last evening at home of explaining the Super heat to a friend given I was pleased with the Lions draw and he is not a follower of the sport. His summery of the situation was. "so after two matches Leicester won on aggregate over 30 races and overall received 4 points (home win, away draw & bonus point) Sheffield lost but received two points one for a home draw and one for winning an extra race to the original 30 races". He then added, "doesn't seem sensible to have an extra race for anything other than if the aggregate score had been level" Sometimes the promoters forget that one of the attractions of speedway is, its simplicity. 4 riders, 4 laps, 6 points up for grabs in each of 15 heats, the winner of the meeting being the team with the most points at the end after heat 15 Or a DRAW if both teams have scored equal points!! SIMPLES.1 point

Obviously now adding Russel Paine to that list (again) and there are/will be countless others. These are people who gave untold hours to the sport for zero in return and were still driven out. What hope has the sport got if it punishes and penalises genuine volunteers whilst feeding the self interest of a selected few.1 point
