  3. Despite all the troubles, the on track action at Lynn has been pretty decent this season, and for me, another enjoyable evening at the AFA. Thought the crowd was pretty decent considering the meeting was on TV and it was the third home meeting in a week. Some good close racing and as @tellboy said, a decent amount of passing on a well prepared track. Thought Fricke was a bit naughty on Jan coming off the second bend in Heat 11. Definitely looked and rode straight across him. But that only fired Jan up more and he got his revenge by winning 13 & 15 in style. Jan's signing has been a breath of fresh air. Everyone loves him and he loves being at Lynn. Nailed on for a 2025 team spot. Niels has just been phenomenal these past couple of months. Been so consistent home and away and must surely be in the mix for a team spot next season. Thoght Anders acquitted himself very well for his first appearance in the top 5 and his career is only going one way. Sure to be in demand in 2025. Thought Lewi rode really well also. Great pass on Lawson in Heat 8 and chasing hard all night and Lambert chipped in with some valuable points as well. Great third place when he passed Sam Masters in Heat 7 to get the 4-2 to draw us level. Bomber just did typical Bomber things. Some awful gating but very quick once he got going. Brilliant pass on Douglas in Heat 6. Thanks to Norick for stepping in as well. Sure he'd be the first to admit the AFA isn't his favourite track but credit to him for taking the booking and looking to improve all the time. For Leicester, I guess they didn't need to put themselves out there, but they were nowhere as dominant as when they came last time. When they won the first four races, I thought we might be in for a long night but proud of how the Stars dug in and got the job done.

  4. Would make zero sense not to. I’m personally not too sure this scheme will work for much longer. There isn’t a huge pool of riders good enough left with those who are graduating out of it. There’s going to be a huge disparity between the likes of Flint, and those left on the list who clubs will be forced to choose. I like the idea in theory, but we’ve got to the point now that if it proceeds, we’re likely to see a few of the rising stars half a lap behind everyone else. Nobody wants to see that surely.

  5. Would love to see my club Leicester win the whole thing but like others have pointed out, the breaking of the rules of who rides who has taken excitment off for me. It just doesn't feel right to me . A little bit like the league cup in the football. It just doesn't make sense to me at all. Sheffield should be declared league winners and call it a day.

  6. That will be because we anticipated it would be around 9:30, but was around 9:55 in the end which obviously we can’t count down to a time we don’t know. So apologies for the delay but it was always approximate depending on Eurosport and did go live at the very earliest opportunity 👍🏻

  7. And you don't have to have overtaking to be a good race. (Rowe riding a perfect line in heat 10 to beat masters) Close racing and not too strung out in most heats and a close scoreline throughout. Dunno what it looked like on TV, but trackside, was a great match to finish on.... although slower due to TV cameras and number of restarts

  8. There is a serious danger of a self perpetuating doom-loop scenario killing even more Clubs here. The avowed intent of the likes of Adrian Smith initially and then Phil Morris and very much supported by the likes of Rob Godfrey, was to have clear blue water between a televised Premier product and the Championship product. The logic being, its easier to sell both products when they are not blurred by the fact that 80% plus of the PL riders double down. The race by several CL Clubs to compete and pay money they cannot / could not afford is clear and it looked like we were beginning to see some clear blue water with a lowering of the CL limit, bringing in some sanity and a refusal to continue to pay PL heat leaders big guarantees to ride in the CL. It seems from this thread that the lunatics have regained control of the asylum; and if the CL limit rises again and the return/continuance of almost all CL teams looking like PL lite and running 40 point averages with one or two CL Clubs having 3 PL level heat leaders and others left with one or none, then the self flagellating doom loop starts all over again. This scenario killed a buoyant NDL circa 2017 - 2018. The root cause is the prehistoric belief that the UK can compete with Poland and the big fish mentality of some in the CL who can't or won't play in the big league because of the prhistoric belief UK PL has to race on a Monday and a Thursday, despite the fact that it now has no relevance as the POles do what they like and stick 2 fingers up to everyone. The are 2 simple options (1) Run the PL matches on a Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday; Thursday; Friday or Saturday and allow those CL teams who have the infrastructure to move up, to move up (2) Make the PL genuinely Elite by allowing far less doubling down of anyone with a PL average over 6 and turn the CL in to a League that is CL Lite and NDL rich bringing through the next generation. We are seeing elitism destroy football, it has half destroyed Rugby Union and is slowly eroding County Cricket. Clubs like Poole / Glasgow / Oxford should not have to be in the CL if they wish to be in the PL but only the race day obsession is preventing them. The Poles now race on a Tuesday / Thursday / Friday / Saturday / Sunday if it suits them, the Danes should no longer dictate what occurs on a Wednesday and very sadly Swedish Speedway is in an even more precarious position that the UK financially.

  10. He's the captain. The reserves race wasn't going to restart with Dan still out on the track. He had time to check on an important member of his team. Stop making excuses for him. He has come up short at everything. Captain, team rider and points scorer. He was lucky to score 4 yesterday after holder made a mistake in his first ride.

  11. I’m one of those, and I've decided against it. It’s effectively a dead rubber, and going yet again with rider replacement made the decision an easy one for me personally. I’ll put that 23 quid to better use this week.

  13. I previously tried to defend Phil Morris, but his performance to camera yesterday made it 100% clear Eurosport has dictated the playoff schedule. If this is put within the context of what he said in the recent podcast, the priority is now, by far, to please Eurosport, other broadcasters, and other sponsors. Doesn't seem like there's any option for anyone else, promoters, riders, supporters, except to accept that situation.

  15. I enjoyed this. Some good stuff at times. There are certain riders you look at and then look at their GSA and think “yeah that’s a bit of a cheat code”. Kvech on 6 and a half is one of those. Has a touch of class and looks an 8+ pointer all day long. Build a team over the winter with a couple of heatleaders above him, and that average will be upwardly mobile very quickly riding at 3/4. In comparison, King on 6.48, Kvech on 6.52. One would be an excellent signing for next year, the other not so much. Nothing against Danny btw, just pointing out that you have riders on near identical averages where one is clearly on the decline, whilst the other is heading in the opposite direction.

  16. We have also missed Tai, he was our best rider away from home all season. Pickering has now hit his top form and I would have fancied us against Ipswich with Doyle and Emil over 2 legs with him in the team. All hindsight though we had the same last year losing Tai and Toby just before the play offs

  17. Understatement of the year! Let’s have it right, Ipswich were a better side than Sheffield this year, the results between the clubs when both were at full strength proves that. The table before Emil joined Doyle on the sidelines also proves that. You’ll get some fans come on with “it’s not our fault we can only beat what’s put in front of us” or, “well that’s speedway injuries can happen”, you’ll always get supporters who are desperate for silverware and couldn’t care less how they get it. But the fact is, the injuries to Ipswich haven’t just spoiled it for Ipswich, they’ve spoiled it for everyone else because the clubs that lift the pots will know it’s a hollow victory. Surely as a fan you want to take on your opponents at their strongest so you know any victory would be fully deserved? No excuses can be made by the losing team, won fair and square. Yes injuries do happen of course they do, but losing not one but two 9.5 pointers is bonkers.

  21. Enjoyed that match some decent races - not for the first time you can’t help but wonder if KL could stop sodding about for half the season they could actually be contenders one time!

  23. Speedway out of the top drawer. Smashing meeting, although Leicester will be worried about momentarily losing momentum going into the business end of the season ….

  24. Think everyone is just demoralised and had enough tbf. We could see it and hear it from King during his recent interviews, and it must have got to the promotion as well. The injuries can’t be helped it’s just one of those things. They’d probably like to shut up shop right now if they could! Just get these last few meetings done and then go and again next year.

  25. Probably a 18/20 point win for Oxford, which will be more than enough to win the tie,can see them winning the second leg as well. Will put the lid on a really poor season for the Bears, started really badly and never got going. Would only keep Wright, Edwards and maybe Mulford for 2025.

  26. Rider replacement for Doyle on Thursday ensures that any slim chance we had has now gone. A season that promised so much even after losing Doyle now seems to be imploding & it seems like the white flag has been raised.

  27. I think maybe the BSPL need to dismiss him asap, before the NFL's lawyers get to work. It may just save their bacon, but even if they do it, they're now vulnerable.

  31. I thought that was one of the better televised meetings this year. I actually managed to sit through it which is a rarity nowadays, despite the usual commentary howlers (e.g. Chris Harris never fails to disappoint!)

  32. Rob seemed OK with Basso. He was a bit peed of with his Polish team.He was genuinely still not properly fit,but was under pressure from his Polish team to ride. I left a few hints that I was pretty certain we were riding next season, and 99.9% certain of one rider who has already signed.

  34. Of course they didn't... it was just Mr Morris trying to justify the unjustifiable. If they'd stuck to the original cut off date and just called it at that point, I think most fans would have accepted it and just thought well that's what you get when you allow KL to do what KL did with all their call offs, also it wouldn't have been the first time that pay off places had been decided with outstanding fixtures to complete (I think). But somebody said no, we're going to switch the league table around and rig BV vs Sheff & Lions vs Ippo... and that is just totally unforgivable! 😠 Like you say if they'd also said at the outset that the top 4 will be decided at the end of the season by the management committee, again I think most fans would have accepted this. But no, we've all been to a load of matches since a team's top 4 place was secured for absolutely no sporting reason whatsoever.

  35. Track was as poor as the Ipswich performance. Gotta feel for Ipswich, no matter which speedway team you support losing two of the best riders in the league then no matter what guests you bring in you will never have the same points scoring or the same team spirit within the camp. Think we all know that Ipswich with a full team would of kept it to around a maximum of 10 points last night, if anything they did well to keep it to 20. Fair play to Sheffield they can do no more than they did and will win the cup convincingly.

  36. Why is this on the Poole 2025 thread? Poole don't want to be in PL in 2025. They run CL because it is cost-effective (their only income is from admission sales, sponsors and adverts) as they don't own their stadium but still attract very decent crowds on their preferred racenights.

  39. If a rider qualifies then they deserve the SGP spot. If Brennan get a SGP place and qualifies, he has as much right as any other rider. Although I imagine there are plenty of riders with more Prague experience but if you can put 5 starts together on that track you have every chance.

  43. King hasn't stepped up once when needed. That's what most expect. Sick and tired of saying it, but once again he goes missing. Now we have no chance on Thursday and that will affect the gate, so it's hitting the purse strings.

  44. No, I dont, they are all NDL level , some are more experienced than others , thats all, they are all in that league and have to race each other so no handicap required.

  45. STATEMENT FROM BRITISH SPEEDWAY PROMOTERS LTD We would like to clear up a misunderstanding amongst Speedway supporters regarding the appointment of Phil Morris to oversee the Premier League and its play-offs. When we appointed Phil Morris "to fix" British Speedway, it seems that some fans have stupidly misunderstood our use of the verb "to fix" These imbecile fans thought we were using the verb "to fix" in the sense of "to repair; mend; to put in order or in good condition". (e.g. the plumber fixed the leaky toilet) The BSPL would like to clarify that we were of course using the verb "to fix" in the sense of "to arrange or influence the outcome or action of, especially privately or dishonestly" (e.g. Vladimir Putin fixed the American election). It is clear to anyone with half a brain that we never intended for Phil Morris to repair, mend, or put the sport in good order. We hope that fans will now fully understand that Phil Morris has indeed successfully fixed the Premiership. Meanwhile the BSPL toilet is still leaking.

  47. I can’t guarantee that but speedway has almost died before and come back fighting. Think late50’s/early 60’s then remember British League 1965 followed by BL division 2 and the major events held on British tracks between 1965 and 1981. British speedway is pretty dire at present but will still be here in 2028.
