  1. Seriously, the Kennett/ RR/ guest chat hasn't been funny for about 2 years. Give it a rest man

  2. Totally agree with your post. Especially regarding phone contact with Dave F. I always share a laugh with him when I ring to renew my loft insulation for another 12 months!

  3. Think they are just informing others that’s they are in the same boat.Think we all know the problems are not with the publishers. It certainly doesn’t show the publishers or magazine in bad light.IMO.Dave at Pinigen does a great job sorting out everybody’s issues with the greatest of ease and pleasant manor.

  4. Aye, because he got injured and tried to come back to quickly. Your number 1 went missing last season so I wouldn't go gloating

  6. He's nowhere near ready for that level i'm afraid but his name opens doors. He might grow into it.

  7. Barker is still a very good rider , he's beaten so called racing snakes by miles over the years. He'll do fine at this level, screeny was never really a lightweight but again not many could beat him. What barker looses in speed he more than makes up for in bravery.

  8. Not really. He is younger than me. 🤣🤣

  9. Not sure yet but as 3 of those aren't registered on here I guess your stalking will need to improve a bit Wayne! But you are correct, this is a Poole thread so no surprise to find you on it.......again!

  10. It seemed to cruel that Adams, one of the smoothest and safest riders ever, had that type of injury after his speedway career had literally just finished! I also remember dear old JL having a crash on a monkey bike at Foxhall a few years back too not quite the same but he was quite seriously injured if i recall it right!

  12. Spreaking as I find: to be fair it was printed in the week afore's ish that current mag, w/e 28-12-24, would be on sale from Friday onwards, 'subbed' issues delivered 24 hours later. Sadly I've had the odd 'Star go missing myself, but whenever I've phoned Dave Fairbrother (a man of few words who gets things done) at Pinegen, 'Star Distibution dept., he has always posted me a replacement asap. During one 'Dude, where's my Star ?' (see what I did) chat he was also frustrated over copies going missing, and revealed the problem is much less prevelant than at one time. Speedway Star remains a top quality publication covering our great sport and, as I've alluded to before, it's important we support the magazine, and our teams / tracks, as without drawing pictures, speedway needs all the support it can get. And, no, Dave didn't ask me to say that, though I promised I would....

  13. I would yes. That's all your getting though. No doubt an announcement will come soon enough.

  15. jape noun a practical joke. "the childish jape of depositing a stink bomb in her locker" verb say or do something in jest or mockery.

  16. He’ll certainly be difficult to pass!

  17. Speedway needs to do something to allow more passing or it will die, follow the leader is boring .......

  18. Put some dirt on the track and the starts wont be so crucial! Lol

  19. Think the team is pretty much run by Godfrey and Simon Lambert from Scunthorpe. Sheffield don't seem to have much input other than using the track for a few of the home matches.

  20. They do now, he’s called Ben Barker! Looking at his photo on the SGB website it would seem his winter fitness regime is dodging salads. Surely has to shift some pudding to be competitive.

  21. Nope, not at all in my opinion. Just enjoying some down time now he’s healed by the looks of things. Can’t imagine he’d be getting paid massive amounts for competing in something hell have another 15+ cracks at to win. UK and continental commitments is where he earns his money. Probably taking the advice of Darcy ward to take some time off and be raring to go when the season starts.

  23. Rumour is you can possibly replace the word ‘ Workington ‘ with the word ‘ Mildensomething or other ‘, possibly.

  24. I honestly cannot understand why so many people post on here about late and missing deliveries, IMO it shows a great publication in a very poor light, when the problems are out of the publishers hands.

  25. can't see that happening while WBD have the rights, if they won't pay for Cardiff there's no way they'll do a London stadium with all the extra meetings/surveying/money

  26. There were always cheaper options for Cardiff too. I used Premier inn as a comparison to the rates in Cardiff, because it's like for like. I was making the point that it's standard practice for hotels to hike prices around events. Manchester is no exception as the prices I stated show. 'Travelling out a bit' was an option at Cardiff too. There were plenty of cheaper options along the valley lines, with easy access to the stadium or city. We always stayed in Caerphilly and took the train. I accept that the GP alone, won't impact prices in Manchester in the same way as Cardiff, but that's because it's not a big stadium event in the city centre.

  27. Visit Wales has had its budget cut by 3.5 million so maybe they want to subsidise events with much better ROI. The Principality Stadium seems to have a cost model based around ROI to the Welsh economy rather than seeking to maximise return on the facility itself, but the financial travails of the WRU and cuts to Welsh Government funding seems to have made more acutely aware of the need to out on money spinning events instead of ‘community events’ - to the point they moved a Welsh rugby international to Twickenham in favour of a pop concert. Which is unfortunately the bottom line.

  28. Not really sure BSI did - think it was consistently around 30-40k in reality, and it seems some cheap ticketing may have been required in later years. Probably not bad given how many people actively follow British speedway, but there’s only so long you can rely on a seemingly unchanging demographic. That pattern was pretty much repeated in the other prestige venues they ran at for a few years.

  29. It is very poor to announce a date and venue for an event and then change that, unless the announcement clearly stated ‘TBC’ or whatever. I think people have every right to be annoyed and possibly even a case for small claims recovery, although this is of course speedway and it’s hardly the first time it’s happened - Gelsenkirchen and Riga come to mind. Non-refundable bookings can save you a fair bit. I tend to do it and just accept there will occasionally be a change of plan. I’m still up on the deal.

  32. Can’t find enough riders to make Amateur meetings worth running and even struggling to find volunteers to help run them . The sport is at an all time low with not enough investment in the future , with either hire bike days or proper structured training days . Edinburgh are trying but there’s not much else at the moment, there will be a major void in kids coming through in the next few seasons. Allowing 5 point NDL riders to compete against novices in the NJL last season hasn’t helped .

  33. Not sure what Steve has got ‘ factually slightly wrong ‘ but the essence of the discussion is that there are riders, 125 & 250 , available but you are saying they won’t travel mid week, which is understandable but does seriously limit their options when it comes to riding. The MDL has struggled since the nomad teams were kicked out, another brilliant SCB interference, and it seems won’t include 125’s for reasons known only to themselves. The NJL never had an issue even though they had three Friday night tracks but attitudes are different now and riders would rather ‘practice’ at a home track than ‘race’ at an away track. The NJL will struggle to field meaningful teams in 2025 and I have suggested in the past that perhaps it’s time to look at a ‘ GP Style ‘ individual meetings, for each class, held perhaps twice at each competing track to give all riders meaningful racing and riders can chose which rounds to ride in but must compete at least once at each track. Just a thought….
