  1. The big question of the night... Is anybody going to remind Shovvy?!?

  2. Spot on... Never ever, watched a rider so "full on" in every single race... Regardless of position... He is, you could argue, borderline "reckless" at times, but that is due, I would think, to his inherent belief in himself to emerge out of very dicey situations, in front... Truly magnificent to watch if you are a proper Speedway fan..

  3. You talk some rubbish at times. You won’t see better meetings in GB this year. 2 very good GP’s in Manchester.Very competitive racing from all riders.

  4. One of the big issues for the sport in this country... Well meaning amateurs trying to run something they have a zero skill set for...

  5. cannot for the life of me understand people moaning about about last night's meeting....race track was good in fact very good, no gate and go, no sitting on the white line, a racers and fans dream of a track. Gollob was the master of Bydgoszcz and was lauded by us all, it is very early days but Dan Bewley is certainly going the right way with Belle Vue, and there's hardly mention of heroics and bravery last night, yet there's some who try and find fault with just about anything. Embrace it and get behind it.

  6. Great racing last night. Shows how good the sport can be. Don’t like the new scoring system - let’s hope it’s for one year only.

  7. He can only race what is put in front of him and as a Polish sportsman promotes the sport well in his own country. He is a class act and in the same league as Gollob. He is an ultimate professional so what more can you ask for from a rider. The fact that the opposition cannot match him is not his fault.

  8. Other than the normal speedway websites, the world at large seems to know nothing of last nights event. Out of curiosity I went on the Manchester Evening News site and did not notice any report, did a search on Dan on the BBC website and the only story I could find was 2018 when he had equipment stolen. Such a shame that not even the GP is properly promoted with WB behind it. What a sad state.

  9. But due to the silly scoring system. You had Fricke score 12pts and Lambert 7pts from their 5 rides. After the LCQ Fricke ends up with 8pts Lambert 11pts!! So you had one rider have a fantastic night. Has one bad ride and another ride has an average night ends up getting 5 pts more than guy who was far better on the night!! Stupid scoring system. What was wrong with the system where every point counted ?

  10. Terrible Grand Prix, no rain, no marching big bands, track was too wet, no gate and go. Bring back Cardiff.

  11. Spot on... It's not BZ's responsibility to give UK Speedway some profile... We had Woffy for over a decade being ultra succesful and the mainstream media still didn't give a toss.. The same when Havvy and Loram won... BZ sells the sport in Poland, which is why he earns several hundred thousand in sponsorship deals with major companies... Enjoy watching a true genius on a Speedway bike...

  12. Another problem speedway has is Zmarzlik is to speedway what Floyd Maywether was to boxing so good it was boring when he fought as no one could lay a glove on him, its same here small fella who knows how to ride on a missile he should get ten titles at this rate, real shame what happended to Darcy Ward as the one rider who had the natural talent to maybe have given him a run for his money.

  13. Nice battle between Zmarzlik and Lindgren by the looks of it. Shame we couldn't see it thanks to the damn drone again

  14. Went last night, really enjoyed it, will be going again tonight. was it a brilliant speedway GP? yes... was it an event? Not for me, Cardiff was an event and attracted people from far and wide, speedway fans and non speedway fans. I've been to a few GP's in Denmark, Vojens & Parken, I went to Vojens as a Speedway pilgrimage, I went to Parken for the city and event. I'd go to Parken again in a heartbeat, couldn't see myself back at Vojens likewise Horsens never attracted me. Last night was very much like just being at a speedway meeting, something I'll be at around 40 other times this season. WBD have been a disaster for the SGP series, I don't know what it is, there just doesn't seem to be any fun around it since they took it over. IMG/BSI made a bit of a carnival of it, couldn't really say what positives WBD have brought.

  15. On the back straight there was one tent selling drinks and another selling food and drinks that was it. That’s not enough to facilitate a full stand of people. I know there was plenty of issues regarding tickets in the seated areas again not effecting myself but it’s not a good look. Racing was tremendous and obviously that’s the highlight for me the rest of the stuff spoils it a little which hopefully in the future they can sort.

  16. I was there last night and it was…well, a bit of a shambles. However, the racing was fantastic. And that pretty much sums it up. For those attending, Cardiff is better as you get sucked in by the atmosphere and the facilities etc. But for those watching on TV Belle Vue is far better. Both have positives and negatives, but overall I think the former always outweighs the latter (don’t think I would keep going otherwise). Belle Vue is never going to match Cardiff as an occasion, but it far surpasses it for enjoyment of racing. Depends which is more important to you. This isn’t a post trying to pick one over the other, just more a reflection on the fact it’s a shame we can’t have both. One Grand Prix at each, like originally planned, would be the dream outcome for me.

  17. Best Grand Prix for many a year, racing was superb and very entertaining, after all isn't that sector we are in nowadays? People will moan about this that and t'other....but it was like a breath of fresh air compared to the "racing" thrown up at Cardiff....lets get the product right on the track then concentrate on improving the race night off track experience. Bravo to all concerned, Belle Vue you did Great Britain proud last night.

  18. Anybody who did not admire that performance from Bartosz tonight is not a true speedway fan.It was breathtaking. As was Dan last night. stick to complaining about tickets and queues that’s GB speedway.

  19. Just like Ivan was... And Briggo... And Ole... All had great manufacturer's sponsorship... And PC with Weslake.... Several times have watched these riders come out on borrowed machinery... The bike had never had gone so fast.... BZ is a generational talent and all time great...

  23. When I read about the catering problems last night with Mike lemon having to serve behind the bar as Well as his other roles at BV it’s reminds me of Peter butterworth in carry on abroad as the hotel owner doing all the jobs 😂

  24. I’ve done just about every job in the sport, raced, mechanic, engine builder, SRA representative, I’ve prepared tracks, I’ve promoted a meeting,I’ve been a shareholder at a track, I’ve even been the medical cover for a season, but most of all I’ve been a fan all my life and I am now a fully paid up member of the man cave where ex riders, mechanics and generally old men chat passionately about the sport while drinking ridiculous amounts of tea and making parts on the machinery there lol

  25. The racing was great as most of us anticipated, with the NSS living up to its status as Britain's no 1 racing track (personally I prefer Redcar and I know Worky has its advocates too) It appears there were issues yesterday, but these were logistical in nature, and can be solved relatively easily with some competent organisational input. [Something our sport is not overly blessed with] What is more difficult to resolve is making the GP series a more meaningful competition. We now have 20 heats of what are essentially exhibition races, followed by the three that matter.

  26. Cardiff followed that trend but dropped from 50k to 19k so the numbers don't back up the theory. Simply when the racing is poor people stop going. Of course belle vue can learn from this year's event and look to improve off the track and when they do (apart from capacity) it smashes Cardiff to pieces.

  27. Well I thoroughly enjoyed it even from the East stand but there were issues with people being sold non existent seats and the PA system was a joke. Catering and drinks were also very limited. But we got in early with no queues for anything, had good seats and once the first few heats were over the racing was superb. We came out saying we would be going again next year. Definitely things to improve but on the track it was spot on.

  28. bang on the money with this post....get a track that's raceable and that will attract people, the other add ons regarding visiting local areas etc will be an added bonus...

  29. Sorry Dean your wrong here, this nonsense having something to enjoy before and after the meeting isn't going to get speedway back to the top, it's simply what you prefer, and it's a poor business plan. Yes I'm certain that the off track experience can be improved at BV over time but why would you want the GP anywhere else after what we saw last night. The experience last night beat every Cardiff by a mile. Room for improvement in the hospitality for sure but that will come. If you want to get pissed go to the pub Manchester as plenty of them.

  30. For those of us in the East stand I think we can say a superb race meeting but a complete shambles of organising it.

  32. Great speedway! Best gp of the year by far. Shame about the organisation with ticket/catering issues as I mentioned before the event. Thought lessons would have been learnt from SON. Well done Bewley 👏

  33. Having worked in the hospitality industry for 25 years it never ceases to amaze me how on the big day, when everyone should be on point. British speedway always manages to shoot themselves in the foot…. Every bloody time. forget the stupid, flash banners and just get the bare basics right….. it’s not rocket science. if you can’t do the basics to cater for your paying clients in the 21st century. Step aside or pay someone professional to do it for you.

  34. Keith Huen does a brilliant podcast, it’s on YouTube somewhere, where he is talking about road racing way back but it was the same in speedway, where the greats like Sheene or Robert’s or whoever had far superior factory equipment to the rest of the the field and this was the same for mauger Olsen briggs or whoever where as today all the top riders are have access to the best equipment so it’s harder to be so dominant today as it was way back when, zmarzlik’s bikes are no faster than anyone in world speedway, he uses same frames, same carbs, same clutches, often even same tuners as everyone else, he is simply a better rider that has no advantage at all where as you didnt have that situation with Olsen or mauger and particularly briggs who anyone will tell you about his Jawa deals, Olsen even brought the rights to weslake in 1983 which backfired because it as the year the first GM came out,way back riders were cheating with fuel additives etc which was wide spread but today it’s too strict and nobody can get away with it, I’m sure they try, like madsen when he suddenly burst on to the GP scene and people were asking questions and then when they started doing more checks he not been the same since, was he cheating ? Well he got form, remember silencer gate ? Oversize engines are pretty much a thing of the past at top level and they eliminated the fuel cheating by riders filling up from one tank before race but not in uk where it’s open to cheating, upshot of this post is zmarzlik is the greatest rider this sport has ever had and likely to have, he is exciting, calculated, brave, fast, he is the complete rider of which we have had flashes of in others but never to this degree, but unlike in other sports he is beaten regularly but until you do it everytime he will always be at the top and eventually the statistics will back this up and it’s not cause he has the best equipment because he doesn’t

  36. My husband [with no interest in speedway] happened to be in the room and observed "the rider in the yellow hat's quite good" - so you may be onto something 😉

  37. Totally different Dan Bewley tonight. The lack of consistency is why he wont be world champion.

  38. Zmarzlik read lambert like a book there, every move, every block all while planning his attack on kubera, I have never seen a rider as good as zmarzlik

  41. I tried my best not to comment on Tatums commentary skills or lack of during this GP weekend but I have failed. He is simply awful and needs binned for this sport to try and become mainstream entertainment. He barely comments on the actual racing and focuses on saying things like jet propelled and working overtime… no doubt about that.

  42. Nail on head ,100%agree. Take the fans for granted. It must be Embarrassing for the people in charge.World Event and can’t organise for 6,000 crowd. Thank goodness the racing made up for the inadequate organising .

  43. And while watching it on tv moaning or otherwise continues it will be the death of the sport in the uk but at least the racing will be great eh, which is the whole point I’m trying to make, we have to make people want to go and great racing isn’t it unfortunately

  45. @THE DEAN MACHINE can get what you are saying about the GP needs to be an event. Been to Cardiff numerous times and Warsaw twice, great event/ city to attend. Where belle Vue is a great track, normally go once or twice a year from Workington, but not attending the GP due to the lack of areas to socialise before the meeting and the area around the stadium is not that pleasant to say the least. Be watching tonight's GP in a Workington social club with hopefully a few fans and a few beers . Up Dan Bewley

  46. err we had Cardiff and look how that ended, it had all the razzamatazz that you so desperately think is the saviour of speedway,...you need a entertaining product to sell first of all, the rest will follow, come the end of the season last nights GP will be the highlight of the series...Cardiff has gone, get over it and get behind something that is actually a positive for GB speedway.

  47. Everyone who attended goes home delighted with the speedway today. Shame you missed out.
