Arlington has been saved!! Spedeworth have taken a full lease of the stadium from the Dugard’s and will invest to do all of the remedial work required to reopen. Given that Spedeworth are friendly landlords of speedway at the likes of Northampton and Mildenhall, surely this is a great chance for speedway to return at Eastbourne

I wouldn't mind betting there will be a minimum of 3 changes to that line-up! Watch this space.......

Hi everyone, apologies, but it's a bit of a call to arms and we are asking the speedway community to help us on the current Birmingham Local Plan. So Birmingham Council have issued for consultation "The Birmingham Local Plan Regulation 19 Publication Plan" which closes 24th September 2026 This plan is designed to hit their housing targets for the next 18 years. In that plan is Policy GZ14, within that policy is paragraph 19.10. This paragraph references the the demolition of Perry Barr Stadium. It states "Efforts are being made to develop replacement speedway provision at an alternative venue" and "The long term lease holder is exploring options for the future of the site". This isn't water tight enough to keep Birmingham Speedway. We need to stop this plot of land being made available for redevelopment in housing. This is where we are begging for your help. We need to get the wording changed in Policy GZ14 19.10 and unfortunately they don't have an email facility, it needs to be through the Birmingham Council Consultation Portal. Portal found here: https://consult.birmingham.gov.uk/kse/ So, when you have a spare couple of hours, it's easier on a lap top, a phone can be a bit more clunky (not impossible) using the portal. Deane Wood of Spedeworh seems very much a general motor sport fan and a business man, If the right people approached him regarding speedway we could possibly see it return to Arlington sometime next year. I don't know if he has the full lease at Ipswitch but speedway runs alongside Spedeworth there, Mildenhall and Northampton and if Arlington got added to the list there could be a nice partnership in the making. 🤞👍

As of last year, the ACU re-entered Flat Track racing with an official competition, the ACU British Flat Track Championship, in the realisation that, whilst licensing FT riders for entry into the FT World Championships, they had no official domestic route to develop and mentor riders to international level. Along with their Championship, embracing 9 classes including Youths, PRO Lite and an exclusive Ladies class, an FT Academy scheme was also introduced. Grateful thanks to all those who want to help. We should all stick together and help each other in circumstances like this. We have lost too many tracks to the redevelopment merchants and none of us want to lose any more. I know there are people who have worked long and hard for a long time to get something moving at Cradley Heath and they deserve to succeed if only for the length of time that they have been trying and the setbacks which they have had. I wish them and the other campaigners well and will support them whenever they need helping.

That is probably why riders should be drawn at the start of each week to ride for whatever team that has matches that week. No longer any reason to consider any rider belongs to a particular team. They are all self employed journeymen and the authorities should stop pretending that it is a true team sport. No it is not the same as it use to be and it is a league with an overall squad system in place. They wonder why you cannot sell it to TV, but it needs wholesale change. This anniversary at Ipswich is a milestone but will not generate the same level of interest it would have done ten or more years back with local people in charge and custodians of a truly local team. The local team support with local people you can relate to has long gone. I think riding all types of track makes you a better all round rider and Cooper can ride the tighter ones, he's shown that at Plymouth, Leicester, Northampton, Oxford etc. Hes arguably better on the big ones and obviously has struggled at Armadale but I think gating and bike set up probably feeds into that too. I'm sure he'll want to master that track but ultimately if his goal is to be a GP rider and a staple in the Extraliga then its probably not vital. I think what was most impressive from him up to the final was his composure, intelligence and the way he handled the occasion. He is without doubt a superstar in the making if his career progresses smoothly.

My lads Sunday league team had a similar "curse" last season.. They ended up just second in the league because of it... But did, thankfully, win two cups... The "curse" has now been officially recognised as being "The Curse of Deansgate" A popular street, which is full of bars in Manchester... Some Sundays we were down to a bare eleven as "The Curse" struck... It struck usually around 9am when all the lads who had been out till 5am in the morning cried off on the WhatsApp group.. On the WhatsApp group it got very personal with the lads who went out each week, but still turned up, even questioning the sexuality of those who didn't make it... I showed the comments to an ex player of the team, and he said he was glad he had no idea what WhatsApp was, but added, he would have gone out and just arrived at the game from the boozer in his day... The fans of the club were devastated by last season runners up spot with literally dozens of people effected, particularly as the prize giving at the Town Hall includes a buffet .. Let's hope "The Curse" doesn't hit this season..

I don't think it makes much difference, certainly not as much as it used to. There aren't many technical tracks in Poland or the GPs now. It appears that being small + lightweight is a big advantage these days.
