There was an article on the British Speedway web site on 4th November telling people how to vote and who was short listed in each category. You could only vote via Social Media (Facebook, X or Instagram). The results were then announced on 8th November.

There will be programmes for sale on eBay of meetings your dad rode in. If you can find the meetings where he scored well, they may be nice souvenirs for your dad to have. Likewise there could be speedway magazines from the 80s where your dad was featured in them but finding them could be more of a challenge.

Fixtures & Results for Neath in 1962 on the Speedway Researcher web site has them listed as either "Welsh Dragons" or "Neath Welsh Dragons" Looking at the 1962 programmes for sale on eBay, home programmes have them listed as Welsh Dragons but away programmes have them listed as Neath The defunct speedway web site refers to them as both Neath & Neath Welsh Dragons. This site includes a local newspaper article from 1962 calling them the Welsh Dragons.

So tragic. There has been a Just Giving Fund setup by the Comets supporters club that has raised over £5000 to help support Jay's family during this tragic time. If anyone wishes to donate, then Google "Jay Cartmell Just Giving Page" to find the link.

If you are on Facebook, have a look at the Speedway Friends Group. Karl Fiala has posted hundreds of "Where are they now?" posts where ex riders answer the type of questions you are asking.

Are you a member of the Speedway Scrapbook Facebook Group? If so, there is a Swedish guy called Omar Nilsson who lives in Sweden and posts old photos regularly. He may be able to help you find this information if it's available in any Swedish Speedway archives.

There's a Ron Dirkin listed in the Speedway Riders Index 1929-2022 with no career record details. No mention of a Roy Dirkin. There is also the caveat that the Index document contains "Rider careers are for League and KOC/National Trophy matches only. "

Have a look on eBay, you might find some of these programmes for sale with the scorecards filled in. If so, you can contact the sellers and see if they will provide you with a photo of the second half scorecard.
