Belle Vue V Sheffield - Mon 26th @ noon
Cue Ball replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Seems to be a lot of angry people on here. It’s only speedway, not life and death. Riders get injured - some over egg it, others perhaps ride when they shouldn’t, it’s always been the way of the world. Some people like watching fast racing which may compromise the ability to overtake, others like watching technical racing and waiting for an error to make the opportunity to pass, each to their own. Don’t think there is any dispute that racing at Owlerton is not as good as it used to be, think it is down to the engines rather than the track, but there is still some cracking racing. Some meetings are better than others - last night maybe wasn’t brilliant, but BV not making a fight of it until Bewley got his bike working after the battle was lost didn’t help. I for one don’t think meetings ever look as good or as exciting in TV as they do in real life and Sheffield probably suffers from that more than most because you can’t get a feel for the speed which (to me) is part of the sport. -
SHEFFIELD v BIRMINGHAM Thursday 15th August PL

Sheffield isn’t known to be a dangerous track with bad accidents thankfully rare -

I admit nothing!! To be honest, I rarely go to away matches or find time to watch streamed meetings (and wasn’t at the meeting on Thursday) so can’t really comment on what happens elsewhere - unlike others who seem to take as gospel what their mate’s aunties friend’s son-in-law thought he may or may not have overheard some other random person saying in the terraces! I don’t think that there is any disagreement that bikes can’t handle dirt like they used to, I was more raising a point that people are implying that the Sheffield track is inherently dangerous on the basis of one accident. -

People that are blaming the track preparation / track design - when was the last bad crash at Sheffield? This isn’t a weekly or monthly occurrence, can’t remember the last bad looking crash at Sheffield -

Curiously I don’t think I have ever heard Owlerton being described as narrow before and don’t think I have ever thought of it that way in all the years I’ve been going there. Glad to hear Emil is ok. -
Birmingham v Sheffield - 22nd July

Nice to see the Sheffield reserves having a great night -
Scoreline doesn’t do the racing justice - heat 13 was absolutely brilliant and Pickering chasing NKI down to the line in the last was great too. Not sure about Brennan - seen him pull a few Nicki P style moves now and he did it again tonight in his final ride. Unnecessary when you’re playing with peoples lives IMHO
-
We were talking last night about some of the young uns riding in the championship, premiership and in Poland and whether they are stretching themselves a bit too thin - then saw that Bailey had left Poland at 2am to get to Sheffield, surely that is more likely to hinder than help his scoring
-
It was a good job Bewley turned up tonight otherwise the scoreline would have been embarrassing!

Sheffield v Leicester 23rd May

A much improved performance from Kyle tonight and we needed it to get us over the line. Admirable mention to Schlein - dropped a point in his 3rd ride seemingly trying to team ride and then 2 brilliant rides to finish off his night. C Holder is akin to having a third no.1 at home. As somebody near me said - he rides like a former world champ. Tai finished a few in a different postcode, and then a couple where he struggled to get anywhere. Looked like he went through the tapes in purpose - trouble with his bike? Great ride by Mulford to win a heat. Fricke - what’s that about?? One heat win against a reserve and Tai off 15m is awful -
Was going to suggest Berge as an option… but see that he is on the injured list. Kyle is having a rough patch, but don’t think there are any options out there, so better the devil you know and trust that he will get his mojo back

Any word on how Josh P is doing? Or Jason? Or Dan?

And the rain came down Its raining about a mile from the stadium and forecast doesn’t look too rosy for the rest of the day. Given the weather the past few weeks, not sure how much water the track will take -
Just got home after a nip and tuck match - thought Sheffield had done enough to throw away what looked at various points to be a routine win, between engine failures and a fall when in points scoring positions, and Tai having a bad night I feared the worst… but hats off to the Holder brothers, they did the business when they had to. Not the most exciting meeting racing wise, but the scores being within a couple of points all night kept it interesting.

Wondering if the football clash has been spotted, can’t remember us trying to run against them previously. There won’t be any parking for a considerable distance around the stadium which will put a lot of people off, as well as people being conflicted with wanting to attend the footy
-
Think it is the lottery result putting me off. Not bothered about spending £50+ to watch follow my leader in the rain just for the sake of it - much as I want to get my first meeting of the season under my belt!
-
Is there no topic started for this one because the weather forecast is pants or due to lack of interest?? For those travelling from Sheffield, Snake Pass has been closed this afternoon for an accident, presume it will be open tomorrow but worth checking in the morning
-
3 former Sheffield riders and a Pole who will be used to a big track, plus Chris Harris. Doubt it will be a walkover if it’s on
-
Not going to lie, I can’t make it on Thursday so selfishly wouldn't mind a cancellation
-
Tough choice between Tobi and Jack, personally would prefer to watch the former and don’t think there is much between them average wise
