Congrats Tigers we gave you that win. Just a few observations. So many heats from the gate, to watch that every week would be a right bore fest-and before you ask ,yes I have attended quite a few Sheffield matches over the seasons. The track may be the fastest in speedway but it is not the best for pure attractive racing to keep the punter's interest. Personally I hate any Tacticals and if a home side needs one they are certainly not deserving of it. Once again, for us the match was lost at reserve, something we need to address- Bailey gone and Kinsley not scoring now is a worry. As for the enigma of our Number 1, the curse of that position haunts us year after year. Whoever is at number 1 their form dips straight away. To be fair to Josh Auty it is clear his bikes were not up to par and was on his second bike for his last ride. We can lament Jake not being in heat 15 ,but in his previous ride he was well beaten and probably Danny deserved his chance. I think both clubs are in for a short season, both promising on paper but not doing it when it matters on track.

Will Ben Barker fit to cover Jason's injury period???

This season is going same way as last season with injuries blighting us. Hope Jason heals quickly. On a positive note Danny Ayres has been a great signing and becoming a fans favourite-well done on his fine showing at Redcar.

Scunthorpe v Somerset 17.5.19 League
scunny1 replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Looking at some of his other posts he is defo a glass half empty guy. Back to Scorpions v Rebels, think we shot ourselves in the foot with the track conditions. The track was under watered ( Rob needs to junk his weather forecaster and use local BBC one! ) well dusty after a couple of heats and had no outside dirt. Our riders were searching for the dirt against the fence ,when it was clear riders were actually going backwards on that line. Well done Somerset used their heads and got points when it mattered. It is another poor feature of this season that the new crop of referees are blind, incompetent or just don't understand speedway racing!!! -
Bailey quits who is out there to replace him?

Wow, what happened to innocent until proven guilty? Plenty of people on here I would not want on a jury. Let the Scunny management tell us what happened and any repercussions. -

Thirty miles in weather terms is quite a way,30 miles north of Newcastle and you would be speaking with a Scottish accent instead of Geordie. -

Well that's strange because I was in Scunthorpe all day and it stopped very light drizzling at 12.40 ,from then on no rain whatsoever, then light spots at 20.35pm. Forecast was spot on. -

Redcar v Scorpions 3.5.19 Shield

A meeting with not much to ride for as no cup progression at stake, however it was entertaining. Thought track was underwatered with too much dust and far too much tractor racing making it disjointed. A strong performance from the home side, the difference being their Reserves scores against the Scorpion reserve scores. Ryan not seen the track before but Josh Bailey is starting to worry me. Thankfully no injuries and just another warm up to the League starting proper. We underperformed but at least I got my Friday night speedway fix. -
Don't recall Messer's Machin, Boocock or Wilson being on the Scunny management team ?

After my first ever speedway meeting I quickly realised where the shale was likely to be thrown up, and to avoid standing there.

Just go up the M18 and M180 in 40 minutes from Sheffield to see a real racers track. Ex Sheffield Promotors, Team Managers and ex riders seem to be at the EWR in Scunthorpe every meeting.

Scunthorpe v Redcar CS 26.4.2019

Smell of methanol exhaust and shale replaced by burned out clutches. Even with the new set up refs are still slow to let tapes up. -

Well we seemed to make hard work of it last night, mainly due to Josh's and Jake's mechanicals when in leading positions. Nice to see MPT has lost none of his petulance in destroying the tapes . With the poor weather forecast it made sense to push on with the meeting as quick as possible. It seems a feature so far in all the meetings this season, all refs are holding the tapes too long just goading the riders to jump. Heat leaders are doing so well, it was unusually difficult to pick who to put in heat 15- Josh Jake or Jason. -

Rob needs to start watering the track now to get it soaked in for Friday's afternoon derby match. No real rain in the area for weeks, just a numbingly cold dry wind. The riders in the after match meet up said no point grading it as it just takes even more moisture out. -
Scunthorpe v Leicester 5.4.19 CShield

The sound in the stand just after the start is dire, yet the sound in the car park is very good. Agreed ,when Rob is on the mic it is usually clear ,although a sports mic would stop the wind effect. Roger Westby interview before the match is poor as he always does it when the engines are warming up and is completely inaudible. Good job the scoreboard is pretty good and quickly updated. -
Think we might need a bigger clubhouse!

Phillips as team coach???
-
Are Scorpion fans really bothered about the NSS? No, we are more concerned about winning at the EWR and that's what Josh, Jake ,Jason and Stefan will do. The remainder of the team can just improve their averages for me.
-
Even if he's fully fit he still needs to sort his head out and commit to first bend attack ,which was sadly lacking after his return.
-
Granted Steve put forward the after meeting talks, which he pinched from Bellvue and it has gone down well with the fans. Jason very rarely misses the interaction between fans and riders. Steve says he's attending then often no show- usually after a heat 15 failure. Like I have said before Steve is the PR man , Jason is down with the fans and is the Motivator and Entertainer. If we polled the Scorpion fans I am certain Mr Garrity would be the fans choice of signing.

Coming back after a bad injury it was clear to see Steve was not 100% committed going into the first bend . The number of times he backed out was not the No1 we expected to dominate, you could never say that about Jason. We can now get back to a race track to suit our riders ,with more shale and an outside line early doors.
