I would love to know how anyone can have any idea what the weather will be doing in two months time.
-
Nope, meant 1986. As in the season that Paul Woods & Mark Courtney rode for Lynn.
-
I think our 2-5 look pretty good but with weak reserves compared to others and no number one we are looking at a bottom half finish.

1986?

Swindon 2016 - A New Era Starts...we Thought..
Bagpuss replied to dump that clutch's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Do you mean no chance of the Play Offs? Because other than Poole & Belle Vue the rest look awful, I'd say Swindon have as much chance of 3rd or 4th as anyone. -
I'd imagine every rider would have to appear in a certain number of meetings. And I don't see many riders just doing EL, most riders ply their trade in more than one league. The system wouldn't be without its issues but Starman always seems to look for problems where there potential solutions, boils down to how much you want the sport to change for the better I suppose and whether your glass is half full or empty. One thing is for certain, EL speedway can't keep going along its current path or there won't be a league for Poole to win every year.
-
Why?
-
There is the Starman 'can't do' outlook once again. How about we implement it in a similar fashion to Sweden where it seems to be successful? To my mind you sign ten riders and can use any combination of those as long as your match day team comes under the points limit using the averages those riders started the season on. Should be no need for R/R or guests and riders who don't want to ride a whole season of 28+ meetings don't have to. Certainly not going to entice every top rider back over here but would encourage some to return.

Admission prices finally announced http://www.kingslynnstars.co/2016/02/15/admission-season-ticket-prices-announced/

Set nights away from PL has to be the first requirement, and if its two nights a week rather than four I believe some riders who have binned off the EL will come back. I think squads are also needed and will work, riders don't seem to want 30+ meetings a season over here but 15-20 might work. The most important thing is to get teams as even as possible and eliminate all of the R/R and guests which we are inevitably going to get again this season.
-
But what a poor, lop sided league it looks. Two sides miles ahead of the others, one reasonably competitive and then five which look poor with Leicester the worst of the lot, mainly because of a too higher points limit for the riders available. Lets hope no club goes silly with the chequebook during the season in an effort to be competitive and ends up in financial trouble and that next year's proposed changes do some good as the EL badly needs a shot in the arm.

Absolutely. Whats is happening at Glasgow is great news for speedway but unfortunately it brings out that great British trait of being jealous of others' success in quite a few posters.

Foreign Based Team Gb Training At Last
Bagpuss replied to Bagpuss's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Fair enough but not convinced he would have been selected for Event 1 anyway, although to be fair he had scored paid twelve for Belle Vue at Lynn the month before. King & Stead's scores on the night vindicated their inclusion but they are not the future of Team GB whereas I think Cook can be now that he has decided to spread his wings. -

British Final performances on a much different circuit to Lynn not particularly relevant. King & Stead have shown on numerous occasions that they can ride Lynn properly and hence were picked ahead of your man on that basis. Look forward to a team of Woffinden, Harris, Lambert & Cook this year and a fighting performance if not a winning one. -
Poor old fishing attempt by SS, getting slack in his old age.

The kind of arrogance we have come to expect from some Edinburgh fans unfortunately. Very much doubt he will be reserve on his home circuit this year, I don't think his inability to ride King's Lynn properly has helped in previous years, particularly his poor SWC showing in 2013. At least he has shown that he has the ambition to succeed at International level by binning off the PL this year. -
Occasionally I would imagine as Thursdays not great for me. Depends on the admission fee too, and how competitive we are. If I don't feel I'll be getting value for money then I won't be there too often. Looking forward to the individual events on the fixture list though
-
On that we can agree, NL clubs should certainly get fees for developing riders, no argument there at all. However supporters of all leagues are guilty of having a them-and-us attitude, speedway in this country can only move forward if all three leagues work together and co-operate.
-
Would rather finish bottom!
-
I don't think anybody is suggesting that fixed night will 'solve all the problems' but straight away Mondays & Wednesdays will avoid clashes with PL clubs.
-
I think the EL having set race nights will help. However a them-and-us attitude really doesn't help anybody, and the FTR scheme is one of the few good ideas to come out of the EL for quite some time. I think predicting the 'death of lower levels' is a little bit dramatic.
-
Any rider who wants to improve should surely strive to ride at as high a level as he can? And as such higher level competition should always take priority, has always irritated me that double uppers can miss EL meetings and therefore testing themselves against better opposition to ride PL. Like it or not a large part of the NL is training riders for higher levels of speedway, surely we want that development to happen. That said Hopwood & Hughes have little chance of succeeding at a higher level than the NL IMO.
-
Trouble is you can't physically drag a rider over here to ride if they don't want to. And if any are even half interested they know they can name their price as Lynn are desperate. Also as none of those names Pinny mentioned live over here there is the cost of flights ina & out to consider , and I would expect a fair chunk of Puk's deal was sponsorship built up over his time at Lynn which would probably be unavailable for a new rider.. While the promotion deserve criticism for the Kerr debacle I do have a bit of sympathy over the Iversen situation as there just aren't enough decent riders prepared to take on the UK's schedule.
-
Ah, Starman's 'can't do' attitude is out for all to see once again. There must be a problem there somewhere if you look for it hard enough..... Probably annoyed because Lord Ford didn't think of it first.

There is a reason I put the word 'completely' in there.....
