Premier League Predictions In The Speedway Star
Bagpuss replied to spin king's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Elvin King has always lived in a parallel speedway universe -

A disappointing start to the GP season for me. Three decent races and twenty processions. Gate 1 ridiculously better than the rest. Same old faces getting to the final. Track far to slick. Referee getting the two decision he had to make wrong (although I admit that neither was clear cut). Good start for Woffinden though, hopefully he can build on that. Thought the commentary team were very good, and I'll know next time that HD is channel 410 and not 412 -

How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?
Bagpuss replied to rusky's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Personally I thought the second half the other night provided the five worst races of the night. I don't think second halves would work nowadays with riders not interested in hanging around any longer than they need to and the nominated race needs to be kept IMO. Would be great if speedway was still like 'the good old days' but its not unfortunately. -
How does widening a track make it worse? Genuine question.
-
If you mean the standard has got lower then its difficult to argue. However if you mean entertainment wise then I don't agree.
-
You can't blame them for pulling out of that one though to be fair
-
Agree about the mechanical gremlins but injuries have also played a big part (particularly in 2011) plus the Young Stars higgledy piggledy fixture list last year
-
Good luck to Lewi and good to see him getting a number 7 spot of his own, especially at a good club like Newcastle. IMO he has got everything it takes to be a very good speedway rider and hopefully he'll be as successful as Craig Cook & Richie Worrall in the transition from moto x to speedway. Genuinely think he is good enough to be an EL rider for the Stars in the next two or three years and I'm looking forward to seeing him develop with the Diamonds and Young Stars in 2013.

Matt Ford To Be Commended
Bagpuss replied to 21st century heathen's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
My opinion of Ford hasn't changed, but at least he seems to be dealing with this situation correctly and a damn site better than Middlo. -
Jake is the final man http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.19108 So the 1-7 is Mallett Kerr Young Hazeldene Knight Waldron Rose Should improve on last year's bottom finish, and good to see one or two new faces. Hopefully the fixture list won't be so badly affected by the weather this year!
-
Out of interest how do you select the supporters who give their views on each team's page?
-
The Young Stars have signed Shane Waldron according to today's Speedway Star. Will be interesting to see how he gets on this year as he appeared to have much promise when he used to do second halves at Lynn.
-
Josh Bates it is then http://www.scunthorpespeedway.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1360224631&archive=&start_from=&ucat=6& Good luck to the lad, I hope its not a year too early.

Pretty sure there was some racing shown too, seem to remember recognising Mark Thorpe during the clips. So presumably early nineties?
-
I think this is worth considering with speedway in its current state. In terms of the doubters I hope this idea will socket to them and provide amp-le opportunities to those c-able to have a go. Watt do people think?

Mills and Hawkins instead then? That'll put bums on seats!

The Start Of The Decline
Bagpuss replied to THE DEAN MACHINE's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I wouldn't necessarily put it down to one particular thing but the introduction of lay down engines in the mid nineties was the most significant factor since I have been watching speedway. -
Darren Mallett back at number one according to Radio Norfolk, fingers crossed for an injury free season. How many points does that leave for the final two?

I think the top four will be Scunthorpe, Somerset, Edinburgh & Newcastle in no particular order. -

The lad has a British Mother, I don't see the problem.
