  1. better than green which only lasted as long as it took for everybody to buy green ones , most riders already have plain yellow , as just like wearing pyjamas instead of leathers , easy and cheap to produce and a quick buck for manufacturers ,
  2. when speedway was flourishing .although it was only 15 minutes of racing , it was 2 or more hours of an event , the anticiptaion of your top rider taking on theirs , the atmosphere from the minute you arrived at the stadium , banter on the terraces , local rivalry , and of course characters , go back to the days of Sean Wilsion Roman Matousek , anything could happen before during or after a race . speedway now is a clincal expeerience . get them in ,dole out the minimum in the shortest time to take their money , and hope they may come back next week , provided of course theres enough roders in the country to provide some speedway or they find out about it through connections , because they sure wont be seeing any fixtures in the local paper , my guess is 90% of people on the terraces go out of habit , a habit that is broken with a disjointed fixture list , and as In my own experience an easy one to break ,it only took 1 week and I wouldn't have bothered if I never went again ,thats after being a regular for 55 years
  3. sorry yes  of course Iv'e seen you  on various Oxford related threads , dont know why i always associaite you with scunthorpe ..lol      If only  I could say  I'll buy you a drink whenthe bees are at  Sandy Lane  , those were the days

  4. quite an impresssive list there , makes it all the more dissapointing seeing it , that this particular production line was largely disregarded by the BSPA except for the revenue it collected by way of licenses and registrations . I very much doubt that in another 8 years you will be able to compile such an impressive list
  5. Unlikely you'll see Long Eaton race again , chairman is now half of the IOW promotion ,and Steve Cook gave up the manager job after more stupidity from the BSPA . Sheffield always had problems with second halves ,a 7.45 start and a strict 10 oclock curfew ,meant that most MDL meetings were cut to 4 races , more than once a main team rider wanted to test something and the meeting was cancelled altogether . good to keep butcher and davies in the shop window and a couple of new faces may show promise , hellowell been around since the beginning of MDL and done nothing ,
  6. if a few more of the chosen reps have the same attitude this could well be a very useful . however this is speedway and theres always going to be someone who wants to go against the grain . good luck with it though lets hope the BSPA finally listen to the bums on seats that keep speedway going .
  7. problem for me is that the representative is likely to put their view above the view of the rest of the supporters I know one who most definitely would and wouldn't like to be challenged as to why he voiced personal opinion instead of the remit of the supporters he represents , I have always been a little suspicious of anyone who puts themselves forward as a spokesman since it takes some ego to want to be singled out ,
  8. I dont think thats loomer road . I'm guessing sun street
  9. what has been holding speedway back about modernising , is good old fashioned greed in the form of gospeed , set up a free app such as has been mentioned ,and it wont take 5 seconds before gospeed appear with their threats of legal action , so to try and improve the raceday experience , you have to pay off people who are greedy and antiquated in their thoughts
  10. i'm afraid it's too late to turn back the clocks now , modern metalurgy and machining capability would mean ,not much effort to make a 2 valve just a revvy and fast , and just as expensive in parts to keep servicing
  11. JImmy mac is a machine examiner , making sure people are using round wheels and not square ,tatum ex rider gives his expertise as to how difficult square wheels can be on tight turns
  12. I would imagine some of the clubs representatives will be self appointed , that being the case if those peoples ideas and plans are questioned or not wlecomed with open arms ,there will be throwing of toys out of prams ,and more than a little vitriol spat at whoever dare to challenge their superiority , upshot is ,what should be a positive thing will be be destroyed by egos
  13. I have always thought it's all about the money , golf Boring , darts boring , snooker boring . all attract large interest , now its not because these things are exciting is it , it's because of the prize money .
  14. decades ago it was different promoters who weren't listening , but at least back then you could have said all they are interested in is money , because there was money to be had , can't say that now so there attitude must be it's my money and I'm not being told what to do with it
  15. all very well suggestion an independent comissioner ,but who is going to pay them ,? extra quid on the admission ?
  16. How many of todays promoters were running the sport in the mid 80's ?
  17. Makes no difference how many sppedway names are on there , if the whole organisiation treats the sport like something it trod in ...
  18. as far as I'm aware titanium valves cannot be reground , once the stems have stretched that's the end of them ,single use at 3 times the cost , titanium conrods allow more revs becuase they are light once again 3 times the cost for minimal gain , titanium rockers lighter less mechanical weight more revs at 3 times the cost . so we have these peter johns titanium engines that weigh the same as a bag of crisps , that cost a fortune muted by a rev limiter , IMHO a dangerous expensive and uneccesary piece of equipment , forced on speedway by a govenring body ,that knows little or nothing about speedway and cares even less ,as long as it's sure it's bleeding every last penny out of it . rather like the E.U. is doing to the UK
  19. or alternatively ,chop the one of the valve rockers off so that only one inlet and one exhaust works
  20. I wenty to Oxfford loads of times . dont rememebr ever going in the "Complex " so it's definitlely not essential as long as theres access to the toilets
  21. I wonder if a saturday might attract a few lakeside and even rye house supporters
  22. with todays technology you can sit on the beach witha bag of chips and watch the GPs , on the other hand Kent is too far a stretch for many away supporters on a Monday ,
