  1. But you bothered your arse to watch it, you slated it the other day, so why bother watching? You make me laugh, you've spent all day defending what happened last night and then have the cheek to coat off tonight's offering for putting on a full meeting on a decent track.
  2. There's been some decent heats, Fricke looks at home in present company tonight, big year ahead for Max I hopefully.
  3. It's speedway, it's fast and close, passing at a premium but no complaints from me, welcome back speedway. Cold you say, those poor girls in their little track suits, you have to feel for them.
  4. Well I've Surfed the web and can't find any mention of this, so if I were Mort I'd issue a Bold statement to refute these claims. He's been through the wringer recently and this new rumour will give him no Comfort, I hope he can turn the Tide soon. Daz.
  5. No, it's a Volvo Dealership, bit of a difference wouldn't you say.
  6. Well as far as the 'teams' are concerned I doubt anyone gives a toss but the meetings can still deliver good racing and there are some decent riders on show. I assume the only way they can put it on at all is through the sponsors money, for that they will have to sell the team names. As you said, it's speedway, that will do for me thanks, I mean if I only watched speedway on tv that I felt partisan about I would not see much at all. I think I'll adopt a team for the coming season. Come on City!!!
  7. I remember Erik Gundersen riding in some sort of lightweight racing suit back in the mid 80's, I think he had them new for a Bradford World Final, white in colour, no idea what they were made of but apparently they weighed next to nothing and Erik reckoned it would give him more speed. I don't know if Kevlar had been invented back then.
  8. Thanks R & R, appreciate the heads up re the Eurosport2 reruns, just had my first fix of the year, the Landshutt meeting, not the best of them but enough to whet the appetite, roll on Saturday.
  9. Said he'd sent you a pm, why not keep it there instead of boring the rest of us, just sayin, it's not even as though you're on topic.
  10. Can't remember the details but the name Barry Meeks sticks in the mind, he was once recorded as having ridden the fastest on a speedway bike, this was at the old Earle Street track in Crewe, was the longest track in the country at the time, known as the 'Devil's Bowl'. I did see a couple of meetings there, we followed Rochdale as well as Belle Vue, it was a very fast track.
  11. Yes and it would flow a whole lot better if you were to stop being a d!ck. I've only just spotted the thread and was enjoying reading all the contributions, except yours of course. It's a tough one to call and I saw plenty of both teams through those eras, Cradley had some serious strength in depth, as some have mentioned Cross @ No8 was special at that age. I can understand those playing down Ken Eyre's role, he was a fans favourite but rarely piled in with big points, I do seem to recall Wilkie getting a few double figure scores though. It's all from memory in my case but it was interesting to see Cradley's average scores were better, I suppose it then comes down to quality of opposition in the 2 different eras. Great thread Sid, keep them coming.
  12. Well technically you're not breaking the law by buying those pizzas but if you modify them in any way, seasoning, extra cheese etc, then you could be in trouble. It's not for me to tell others the rights and wrongs, if your conscience allows you to eat them then so be it, my main concern is to let those who are not so savvy, know of the pitfalls, it's what I do, I'm good like that. Anyway, I'll leave it there if you're ok with that.
  13. Fair comment but possibly different when it's someone's job, possibly not. What about if I want to end my contract with British Gas early, does the fact that someone else replaces me as a customer mean that I need not pay up the remainder of the contract? I would think that unless Sky did a deal with BT then they are bound by the terms of the contract and would have to pay up. Either way I'm happy if coverage switches to BT, more Natalie Quirk Edit, just seen a couple more posts, happy to be wrong re the contract.
  14. Surely if Sky pull out of a contract they are liable for the remaining months irrespective of whether or not the BSPA can negotiate an alternative.
  15. I can't argue with others experience of BT/Sky or whoever but I've just renewed (last week) with BT and am happy with the deal, also put my mobile over as part of the deal. In terms of customer service, well I've had it bad with them in the past but I can't fault them on this occasion, first class. Their CEO, Gavin Paterson has stated his intention to improve the customer 'experience' and mine was a very positive one. If you linger on their website you will have the option to chat with an advisor, this can be beneficial as they will offer to call you, hence saving you time in a queue. I think you mentioned internet speed, well I did have the superfast b/band last time but I've downgraded this time, it still offers up to 40mbps or similar, I've just run a test and it's running at 15mbps, which isn't too bad since it's peak time of the day. If it proves too slow in the future I'll just upgrade it again.
  16. I wonder what trolls did before the internet, I mean surely they are just displaying their natural tendencies to disrupt and cause unrest, so how would this behaviour have manifested itself in the real world? Somebody behaving like robert72 does on here would not last 5 minutes in any actual real life social situations, well certainly none that included my presence anyway. Are they basically loners who find a voice from behind their keyboard? Either way they are a bloody nuisance.
  17. If it upsets you that much I'll have your ticket off you, face value. That will save you from having to complain about the lack of permanent toilet facilities, or whatever else you could find to whinge about, sorted.
  18. It's an explosive situation for sure.
  19. Have been wondering myself, bit of weird posting style, slightly familiar but not enough to pinpoint. Anyway, thinking outside the box and it's a very long shot, Bigballs - Viz - Buster Gonad - Buster Chapm.... surely not...
  20. Well I've heard Tebby has been in the gym all winter, lost half his body weight apparently. If the rumours are true then it's got to be Tebby. Mudge needs to stop wearing fancy blue leathers and concentrate on his racing if he's to improve.
  21. Couldn't agree more Sid, thrill merchant he was. There isn't an awful lot of footage of him on youtube but I've just re-watched this meeting as it has always stuck in my mind as a decent meeting, even if it was just a glorified open pairs challenge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIGbKOl_08g Couple of points of note, Jeremy Doncaster was made of tough stuff, admitted he was still suffering the aftereffects of a recent knock on the head but still rode, Tatum starting his tv career all those years ago, a natural in front of the camera when giving a description of the sport for new viewers. Carter was unbeatable in this meeting but Cook was sublime, his last bend pass on Alan Grahame in ht13 was top drawer, not many riders dared go round big Al. Last point, fantastic to hear the great Dave Lanning and his controlled enthusiasm for the sport, never bettered..
  22. Wilkie was indeed all heart, a team captain in every sense of the word and a Belle Vue great. As for theatre, he also stormed through the stand at Kings Lynn and up the ladder to the referees box for a quiet word regarding an exclusion, then there was the famous on track brawl at home against Leicester, that was started when Alan Cowland forced Wilkie off his bike on the pit bend, Wilkie got up and confronted him as he was coasting towards the pits, within seconds there was a free for all in the middle of the track, riders, mechanics and fans involved. So yes, Wilkie was an entertainer, certainly a solid rider if not known for being spectacular but gave everything (and much more) to the Aces cause, if he'd not been a speedway rider he would probably have made a great professional wrestler in the bad guy role. Yes he was patchy but for some reason I can remember always looking forward to seeing him ride, like most of the Californians he loved interacting with the crowd and could do some amazing things on a speedway bike when he was on song.
