  1. Are you though i would take whatever you say with a pinch of salt and are you qualified Na stick to watching Eastenders me old mucker.
  2. Mr Machin has done a great job good luck to him whatever he does in the future really hope the Tigers go back to the top league.A great club awesome track great facilities loved my visits to Owlerton my first visit goes way back to 1977 the Wilson/Wyer era.
  3. What i am saying they're was not to much wrong with the product then so why change.?As the saying goes if it ent broke so why change. Also you have not seen it from all eras so in my book you are not as qualified as people who have.Dont get me wrong things years ago were not perfect far from it but the outsiders i know looking in think this rule is laughable.
  4. DId you ever see the racing then?so in a way you know no better today's rule is a joke.Sport is supposed to be exciting we no it can be brutal its like Man Utd being 3.0 up cruising oh well we will go down to 8 men give the other team a chance. This rule is farsical when somebody who does not follow the sport tells you that then you have to digest it and listen not that you ever will because you are always right.!
  5. Big shout that 'wealdstone, and Crutcher was top class his record does indicate that. Why would you put Brian in front of Peter? some might say at 29 Craven had still to reach his peak and maybe he could of won a couple more world titles. Sjosten was a favourite of mine to,i still have his prize autograph and was lucky anough to see him ride quite a few times but unfortunately not at the great Hyde Rd.If you look back at the footage of Soren,s defeat of PC in 1974,Gothenburg that race with the camera work really shows how Soren,s style was quite similar to Peter.
  6. I know people who were happy with the old rule, and think the double/rule as it is now is a joke. Also my boys mate has watched speedway round ours a few times so he is impartial and he thinks the rule is laughable. So the old tactical rule was far from perfect but a damn site better than this Micky mouse rule we have now.
  7. He was Pete no doubt about it , Collins was a terrific rider at Hyde Rd especially, Mauger and Olsen were the only two who could beat him there at his peak regularly .Lee was just a talent who just burst on the scene, my way of thinking is at there best i personally think Lee would beat Collins more times than not.
  8. Great rider his record speaks for itself,Style wise what balance how exciting was he to watch? He for me has to be the finest rider we have had with in my opinion Lee,and Collins just behind.
  9. Has he not ridden at times for Sheffield? and other guest appearances or is that someone else?Jacobs he is PL rider but still rides NL.Does it matter that much? he is English has talent and he will get a chance next year to move his career forward whatever the leagues are.
  10. Cook, Newman,Birks,Lawson,Auty,Greenwood,Jacobs.
  11. Totally agree Banger, i am sure some refs hold the tapes deliberately. You can't have it both ways, the rider guesses right he is brought back if he touches the tapes he is out.For me it adds something to the meeting if they hit the tapes fine out they go,otherwise let it go.
  12. Going back over the years in sport, the likes of Greig,Denness,Hick,D'oliveira,Lewis,Bugner, (ex) the British public never took to them.
  13. Would have to think NW, Tommy Jansson would have to be added to any list he and Anders were both stylists and they were a great partnership.Going back further i never see him ride but my uncle told me Gote Nordin was a stylish rider to.
  14. Malcolm Simmons and Leigh Adams were two of the most stylish/ smooth riders i ever saw.
  15. Good post most of us i believe want more Brits to get a chance your team has been good in that respect generally. Also they give Bates a chance didnt work out but he will be decent longterm. If it is one big league maybe it might be regional who knows it is all up in the air at the mo.
  16. Was Alan Knapkin a late starter? improved later as a rider was an exciting rider around Odsal didn't he have his own business which made speedway difficult to concentrate on.
  17. Doctor i never ever met the man,but had heard from others what a gent he was helping endless youngsters over the years.A great ambassador for our sport in 1972 Streety averaged 5.28 but in 1974 at the age of 43 averaged 7.70 saying that i believe his top average was ? 8.28 in 1966 for Exeter a legend.
  18. A couple of riders come to mind for me i know they didn't do it over a long period but the two were Neil Street and Graham Drury.Streety i know he had a massive advantage with his conversion but he had one real good year upped his average considerably.Drury who was always a decent rider really upped his game reached the BLRC on merit and was a genuine no1 in the averages.
  19. Doyle,Cook,Heeps,Kerr,Fricke,Henry(before injury)Rosen also Greenwood up there has made good progress.
  20. Yes Carter would of had a great chance in 85 at Odsal if fit,i don't know if it would of been a favourites chance though.I am saying this because i felt he wasn't quite as dominant there than he had been at the Shay.
  21. Great point Shawn in that meeting had a great race with Per in heat 16 which he won.Shawn i believe was a better rider than Ermolenko also Sigalos was in my opinion but credit where it is due Sam did the business. As much as i was a big fan of Carter i never really believed he would win the title in 81,82, or 83,.
  22. As much as the series now is very good WK, i watch and enjoy most of the time it does not create the excitement of those one off finals never will.As you have said endless times about the qualifying system it was unfair at times and brutal but sport at the top level should be brutal that is what makes sport and competition special.
  23. It certainly has and that is a fact, no flexibility in the fixtures with rain offs a total nightmare to fit in all the meetings. With the change of the WC from the one off final to the series were the leagues properly COMPENSATED for the inconvenience over the years i think not.
