Wel I have purchased a live stream and look forward to settling down on Friday night with a couple of cold ciders and to cheer on the mighty Pirates. -
Poole v Newcastle 25th August 2021

Well that was the worst meeting of the year by the proverbial mile. A big crowd as expected but really nothing to cheer about as it was one way traffic all night. Not one race of note to be honest. We could see the track had been well watered before the meeting and there was a lot of track work going in up to 15 minutes before tapes up. But in the first heat we could see issues as it looked deep and grippy and riders were struggling. A track grade and watering after heat 2 didn’t make much difference and an early interval at heat 8 saw the blade come out, which certainly made the track better but unlike last week they didn’t water anymore, meaning the rest of the meeting was played out in dusty conditions. My guess is the riders didn’t want the track watered. Newcastle were as bad as expected and got off quite lightly with the scoreline. Two falls from Basso when in third and clear leading helped Newcastle from a bigger defeat. Poole also used reserve Danyon Hume in heat 15. As for Ben Basso, he looks a serious talent. He said after the meeting that he was very disappointed in his score, and was nervous before the meeting and over tried. It showed with the immense speed he has, too much for the track which resulted in a spill in his first, followed by another in heat 8 when miles clear. Perhaps he should learn that a win is a win and to throttle back a little. Three points if you win by a bikes length or 100 metres. Well done to Barker for living up to the number one jacket. Was on it all night. As for the others, we’ll just forget about it and move on. So Pirates go clear at the top of the league. Next stop is Edinburgh on Friday before coming back to Wimborne Road on Sunday for the visit of Birmingham and the ever popular Bomber Harris, who is bound to get a warm reception. -

The track now is smooth and no issues however it is dusty. -

Basso looks like a serious talent. Clearly over trying on his first meeting he had heat 8 sewn up but fell on lap three on his own. Full throttle but needs to realise throttle goes both way and when clear doesn’t need to push so hard. From what we have seen looks heat leader quality no problem once he settles in. -

Lots of water before the meeting but looked crusty and grippy for heat one. They have taken early interval and been grading with blade. Looks better now. No more watering though. On riders instructions. -

It matters not whether he has ridden there or not. A huge upgrade to make sure Edinburgh don’t lose. I look forward to watching this on the live stream. No expectations on the result though a point would be good and a win sensational. -

Newcastle have Charles Wright who can go quite well around here, and Ben Barker in the past has had a high score with Coventry a while back so he can score points. Of the others none have ever done anything of note but that doesn’t mean they won’t. Archie Freeman I don’t believe gas ridden at Poole and it will be a very tall ask for him to trouble the scorers. Adam Roynon scored ok at Kent and is experienced enough to make it difficult for Hume and Cook. But even hoping Newcastle give us a tight meeting is wishful thinking. Let’s hope they have their gating gloves on to at least make the racing thrilling. 57-33ish. -

Weather is for baking sunshine all day. Hope the track staf keep pumping water into the track. As has been reported, tracks have been dustbowls elsewhere and last weeks track was underwatered before the meeting. Pretty sure the track staff are fully aware and will make sure that’s not repeated tonight. I think there’s going to be a large crowd tonight. With the weather good and the area swamped in holiday makers, and with the debut of Ben Basso, it should be very busy. Hoping that Newcastle put up a good fight tonight. But Poole isn’t Kent, we are far stronger. Just hope the Newcastle riders prefer the Wimborne Road track. -

Possibly the worst track I have ever visited in a fair while. Far too small, far too tight, only overtaking is either fence a rider or hope they make a mistake on the tight bends and fall off. -

More than likely. Not much difference between a big defeat and being slaughtered, and if it saves a few hundred quid and helps Newcastle survive then so be it. -

Hi Sevy, Pay on the gate with cash. Doesn’t seem the promotion like card payments. If you want to pay by card, buy tickets online. Yes you can park at the stadium though don’t leave it late. A 6.30-6.45pm arrival will let you get a spot. Although it might be a bit one sided you will still be entertained as I am sure a Newcastle rider or three will want to give it a go. Racing is always good at Poole. Last week the track staff underwatered the track before the meeting so pretty sure they won’t make that error again. Will be good to see the new young Dane Benjamin Basso making his debut as well. -

Bowtell for Freeman is frankly ludicrous, even though it’s in the rules. Like replacing Heeps with Bjarne. -

If we could get Ben Basso to reserve for the playoffs that would be a major plus. Danny Hume has showed he is capable of holding his own against other reserves and some second strings. -
Poole finally gave their official 1-7 on Wednesday for the visit of Newcastle. We welcome Benjamin Basso to the number 2 berth which has been filled with guests since the dropping of Aussie Zane Keleher. By the look of it we have ourselves a talent, but he will need time to bed in so mustn’t expect too much from him for this one. We pasted Newcastle a couple of weeks ago in their own patch and think this one could go in a similar direction. Hopefully they will put up a fight.

Middlo in the playoffs I should think. -
Kolodziej blew it big time. Thank god no injuries but what a 5hitshow for the sport. Holding it an unknown track in the backside of nowhere does not promote the sport in any way, shape or form. Every single time we are served up a horrible slick track but this time with ruts which throws the leading rider to the back. Give next year to BV on a Saturday night and let the bv track staff prepare the track. Full stadium, great racing and British speedway shown in a good light. Today showed why the sport is in decline.
