  1. Think Bob Duckworth was a mechanic. And I think Ove Fundin had a family transport business.
  2. The ones who shout loudest often dampen the spirit of others who are usually quieter. Others then get overruled. Its just a theory I have but I cant prove it. I'm not saying there wasn't a problem with BV track, cause obviously there was (but not fully known at the time) I still cant understand why Warsaw was stopped by the riders, and comments on here indicate many cant understand why BV was stopped even before it started.
  3. Bit before my time, Gustix, and I only raced on one London track and that was in 1964 - Raynes Park. Rode in the National Junior team championship. Two Manchester teams, Hyde and Belle Vue. I rode for Belle Vue and despite being favourites we lost by 2 points. Straight after I rode in the junior individual championship and despite not being favourite I won it with 13 points, beating Chris Hunt of Wembly and Paul Rennie from Gorton Manchester - they were the two favourites..
  4. I still hold the view it was a conspiracy against either BV or "the establishment" by some of the riders. They did it in Warsaw last year and I reckon they done it again. I not heard one fan say the track looked unfit after the 20 laps test ride by the 16 riders, the only reports I have heard is that they were suprised the meeting was called off. If the riders are setting a standard they got to be consistant, and if they are consistant then some tracks are going to be in trouble and probably often.
  5. I will stand corrected (not going to pile through all the posts) but I think it passed a SCB inspection as per SCB stated above.
  6. Thank you ouch and Aces5, I couldnt be bothered answering myself.
  7. More then once on the BV track threads I have quoted Bristol opening night in the summer of 1977. As the fans were coming into the stadium, in fact as the fans were in the stadium (the start was delayed) there was a mechanical digger on bend 4 still working on a bloomin big hole, but the meeting went ahead. If I remember correctly, some riders didn't like the situation and refused to ride. The meeting was horrendous and was a big mistake to carry on, but it did. I didn't hear of any fans complaining on the internet like they have for Belle Vue - oh, just remembered, there was no internet in those days, just had to carry on with life. To me that's one thing wrong with the internet, news now is 24 hours per day, reporting ll sorts of information, but listeners of the news (including via internet) DEMAND to know all the detail about everything, most of which would not be available just 20 years ago
  8. Just tired of the nonsense comments. I you are all so clever, why did so many buy tickets for the opening meeting. At least I held back and told you he reasons why.
  9. Don't be silly, and apart from anything else.... that's an old one.
  10. The reliable source surely has to be straight from the horses mouth.
  11. i am certainly not taking into account any sporting issues when making in or out decions.
  12. What was the attendance at that cancelled opening meeting? Was it 5,000, letys say it was 5,000 I wonder how many admin staff there are at BV, you know a general office where someone opens the mail, answers the phone, has to initially deal with anyone who calls at the stadium, be it someone for a meeting or just a general enquiry. How many staff? I reckon it will be one, that is 1. so how many ticket refunds do you think that 1 will have to deal with out of the 5,000? 3k, 2k, maybe but lets say 1000. How many can one (1) person deal with in a day, checking the details of the claim, and processing the claim - 20, 30, lets say 50 BUT, there are telephone interruptions, the post to deal with (more claims included), in person enquiries, someone wants a letter typing, and so on, and this one admin staff may well be the one that sorts the most important job of the day - making the tea! Give em a chance. If you sent your claim recorded delivery/special delivery you should have proof of posting and knowledge it has landed at its destination. That's IF you have done that- which would have been very wise to do.
  13. And there has not been a "balls up" of the size, shape, or surface of the track - its whats under the surface of the track only on turns 3-4 that is/was the problem.
  14. Is this Ronnie Russell a speedway track expert?
  15. If you think that is the case then its because the council was coughing up the money to fund this whole project. Councils have their way of managing the public funds, and no doubt BV had to agree to termds they may not have liked to ensure the stadium to come to fruition. I dont know that, its just an assumpttion. There will more then likely be some legal onsequences of this, that will probably be between then Manchester City Council and the contractors. And lets face it, it seems that the contractors have done their job for 75% f the track, and it sounds like they put dodgy material onto bends 3 and 4 as they worked themselves out of the stadium. My opinion is that their are some very rude people on this forum, the way they have spoke about Dave Gordon and Chris Morton, whose dream for the last 9 years was to have a speedway track away from the constraints of a greyhound track. The track will give superb racing lines I am sure. Maybe a book will be written sometime on the problems of building this stadium, there has got to be something behind all this that is not generally known. In the meantime too much speculation from so many not in the know.
  16. Obviously what Wembley did wrong, and what Berlin Airport did wrong was not consult the "experts" that frequent this forum. Remember though that "X" is an unknown quantity, and "spert" is a drip under pressure.
  17. I thought it would be obvious I was making a comment about two separate previous posts in one post. Thus saving forum space by not answering each in a separate post..
  18. Would you like to substantiate your statement with some facts? I have just got my tickets to a show at my local theatre. It states that all I am entitled to if the show is cancelled is the face value of the ticket. No compensation for travelling, food, hotels etc. No compensation for the ticket processing fee (admin to process the tickets and sending through the post). And these terms are general and accepted when tickets are issued to any organised event.
  19. We all know that 15 heats could be covered in approx 15 minutes. Add on start gate gardening, the after finish lap, few pt interviews and other bits and there would be no reason NOT to see all 15 heats.
  20. Well, as turns 1 & 2 are not causing a problem then this blind person with a clip board and hard hat must have done a good job up to that point. Look, its obvious something has gone wrong on bends 3 & 4. Those who have frequented this post through the weeks & months and followed links to photos of progress will recall that the contractors worked themselves out of the track/stadium, with turns 3 & 4 being the last (and I suspect turn 4 would have been finished after turn 3), with just about a week before the official opening. It would seem logic to me that the material to be used on 3/4 could not be supplied in time and so they layed "some other stuff" which has proved to be inferior to what was specified - that's what I deduce from whats been said. I assume there will be a major "inquest" between the contractors and Manchester city council, with injection from BV speedway, as to what has gone wrong and who will "pay a price" - the legal stuff. In the meantime isn't it good that the problem has been identified and remedial work is now being done. We can assume that turn 3 and 4 will become as raceable as turn 1 and 2, then the track, indeed the whole stadium, will then prove to be something really positive to talk about..... not sure some posters on here will allow that though.
  21. First GP is on BT Sport 1 which will please some Why will it please some....genuine question as I don't why it might please some.
  22. Not wavin the American flag then, there will be an American rider there nearly as old as your wifes granfather and with a chance of winning the gran prix (sorry Greg)
