  1. Couple hundred metres away diamondlodge.co.uk. Tonight a room is £65 inc breakfast..... don’t know what it will be an event nearby night. Get in quick, they may not have been given the nod. Not a massive hotel. It’s on Hyde Road so easy for buses into Manchester.
  2. That’s a bit like Labours attitude to any one who voted Leave... must be a bit thick and stupid. No one is forcing Polish people, or indeed anyone, to pay to go to the British GP, or any GP, just as no one was forcing fans to go to Stockholm for the Swedish GPs, and I understand that was a very expensive trip to a GP.
  3. 1951, Who was the other rider in Jack Biggs last heat race.
  4. Virgin do not cover all areas due to their lack of cabling. Sky comes through the air so get virtually be seen anywhere.
  5. But BT sports to get speedway is relatively cheap, that’s my experience anyway.
  6. Think it was Arthur Lampkin that was on Tv with Vic Eastwood and the others. But yes it was a very successful family in motor bike sports. And what Dougie Lampkin did in trials riding was amazing.
  7. A very good scrambler (as it was in those days). Used to watch him when scrambling was a feature on Saturday afternoon TV. Dave Bickers, Jeff Smith, then they brought Torsten Holman and Rolf Tiblin (names if I remember right). Great stuff. Another good in bites the dust.
  8. Ooh, Orlov, might agree British meetings on TV is not good, but I disagree with you re the GP’s. The majority of the 10 GPs are very good, couple Okish, and a couple mediocre.
  9. I certainly did not mention cancel.... I am on a contract, I just need to watch end of my contract date in conjunction with contract dates if no longer showing on BT.
  10. That’s of interest to me as well. When I subscribed to Sky a few years ago I used Plusnet to get BT for speedway. But broadband then in my area was 1.2mbps on a good day, very poor. Much to my surprise Openreach came round to my countrified area and put Superfast Fibre bband in and via BT I get 72mbps plus I subscribe to BT sport to get speedway. BT have not released super fast fibre to any other supplier, so I will have a choice to make, do I stick with BT for super fast broadband and loose Speedway TV , or move to superSlow broadband and go to where I can get whatever channel speedway GP’s are on. I can live without British speedway but would really find it hard without the GP’s.
  11. Sorry to hear this. Not a big star rider, but one of those steady back up rider every team needs.
  12. I will go through again now I know some that are there, I thought I saw Chris Morton but then dismissed him.
  13. Only recognised four... Briggo (ages but doesn’t change), Dave Morton, Bert Harkins, and Jimmy McMillan (I think). The rest.... not got a clue. Likewise don’t know the youngsters either... but glad to see them there. Good photos. Anywhere that shows the list of award recipients?
  14. 1) but you claimed it was perfectly acceptable in today’s society. 2) I used to swear but never in front of ladies and never in formal meetings at work, and generally not a great amount anyway. Then I made a personal decision to stop swearing, and that was about 35 years ago (just over half my life ago). 3) so is stabbing of youths common place in certain areas..... is that acceptable. When we moved home 8 years ago, one our new neighbours used swear words a lot. Without me commentating on swearing, he realised (purely by listening to me) I didn’t swear. He started to apologise whenever he swore. Now he can hold a conversation without swearing at all.
  15. It was wholly up to Tai to choose using foul words or not in the first place when pen went to paper. Since Tai has stopped swearing in front of TV cameras he has actually got more likeable in my estimation. When now being interviewed a different personality seems to across, definitely more likeable, and he has a sense of humour as was displayed when “guesting” with Pearson and Tatum.
  16. Is it perfectly acceptable in today’s society? I can’t remember having a referendum on this If it is perfectly acceptable in today’s society then why cannot you type such words on this (and other) forums without it being removed/altered/modified? Do you think if someone went for a job as a checkout operator in a supermarket and used such words at the interview they would get the job? Your HONEST answer to that simple question will tell you whether such language is perfectly acceptable in today’s society. Consider this, it was only about 3 years ago that foul language was often used in interviews by speedway riders (not the interviewer) at the Speedway GPs. Apologise for foul language were frequently given to viewers after the interviews, which indicate such language was NOT perfectly acceptable to the broadcasting company. Further, have you not noticed that now very rarely do you hear a speedway rider using foul language when being interviewed, even after an emotionally charged race. Why is this? More then likely the broadcasting company has said “look guys, foul language is not perfectly acceptable in today’s society, it has to stop, and stop now, or your interviews will NOT take place. Now go and have a chat with your sponsors and see what they think about what you just been told before you make a decision”. I can’t think of another sport that regularly appears on TV (MotGP, football, rugby, boxing etc), where contestants use foul language on such a regular basis (if at all) as was happening in speedway interviews a few years back, and at the highest level. Maybe, just maybe, the perceived acceptability of such foul language in sport could lead to viewers thinking “that’s not a sport I wish to take my family to, its more a foul mouthed yob sport”. Re Tai’s book. I bought it (on line version), read every page, my view is (and I have expressed this before on this forum), it is an “ok” read, some interesting sections, mostly very flat though. In my view it is written too soon, better he had waited until he retired, IMO. As to the foul language...... it added nothing to the read.
  17. That’s true........ and there was no need for it, never is.
  18. Have you seen the new quiz...... Cashtrapped with Bradley Walsh. Different from you normal quiz programmes. On now, 5pm ITV Friday
  19. Mike, now pinch yourself, wake up, and go to work. Must have been a real nice dream you had.
  20. At this point in time, any money coming into the sport should be spent on the track and stadia facilities, not attracting riders by dangling lots of £’s in front of them. Nicki P may still be a top rider and draw a few hundred more crowd, but he won’t be around in 2 or 3 years time but hopefully the track/stadium will.
  21. Here goes the big money spend.... fine if the gate money or sponsorship more then covers the cost.
  22. Looks like Dan Bewley has upset a team manager in Poland... https://www.wp.pl/?s=sportowefakty.wp.pl%2Fzuzel%2F853397%2Fzuzel-transfery-to-dzialo-sie-wczoraj-bewley-zapomnial-ile-zrobil-dla-niego-mroz&src01=df1fd
  23. Maybe the extra wildcard reflects the fact only European riders will be capable of qualifying via the SEC rounds. Possibly at least one of the wildcard picks will be a non European rider
  24. KLynn fans need to prepare mentally for the day (yar) that Robert Lambert does a Tai and not ride in the UK league so he can concentrate on Poland and Sweden.
  25. What’s the problem you have if a rider does know they already in for next season.
