  1. Sid, why is it you say league racing is now what the British speedway supporters want. It’s not for the standard of close racing surely. Team riding has disappeared, note the SON, team riding seems to be as you cross the line look behind to see if your team mate is behind you ie Jason Doyle. It’s every man for himself (with a few exceptions). So if it’s every man for himself that is why speedway gps are so exciting. Of course the “right” track makes a difference to good close racing. Some (most) of the televised British league racing last year were rubbish, I recorded them for future viewing, but then erased the recording as soon as the meeting was over.
  2. I doubt very much a business like BT would even dare think about something like you suggest, it would cripple them financially if found out, and it would. I have a reasonable relationship with BT, see my post 3 before this one. I find if I talk calmly to them ( or other companies I may have a contract with), tell them my situation, and what I would like to do, even tell them what I am thinking of doing, I don’t always “win” but usually come to a reasonable settlement. Take Saturday when I rang them, I was in a position where legally I could have cancelled my whole contract (BT was changing my contract by them dropping Movies24), but if I had done that I would have lost super fast broadband (n other supplier can offer that to me apparently). So I would be big time looser. I didnt particularly want to lose but sport either, speedway and Moto gp will be back some day, and I get good discounts on my package. So I had to be sure not to put myself down a “bad route”. I was suggesting suspending the whole tv package (£18 per month)’, they wanted to suspend just the £4 p sport package. I respectfully reminded them what I could legally do (cancel £52 pm), adding that I don’t want to do that, but would, and got the concession to suspend the whole tv package month by month till this mess is over. i think in any business where they sell a service over the phone the “sharp guys” (and gals) will always be there, pushing things in a way to benefit them personally. Having had my own business over the last 25 years, until retirement, I have heard them all, got caught out too many times, but learnt from it.
  3. Waited 40 minutes this morning to talk to a BT guy. I only got BT TV to get Speedway GP and Moto GP plus wife wanted Movies 24. Speedway/MotoGp finished last October so I have to pay 4-5 months for nothing except wife gets Movies 24. I got a letter from BT couple week ago to say Movie 24 is being dropped, so legally I could cancel my contract and as Speedway and MotoGP postponed it could be tempting. I put my case and said what could be done, Was told they would suspend the Sport package (£4 per month) on a monthly basis reviewed, I reminded them I could cancel the lot but didn't want to, could they suspend the TV and sport package, total £18 per month as per the Sport package. After consulting his supervisor again they agreed to do that on a month bt month basis..... but I have to request it month by month. So some sort of success. Must admit some of the BT packages are good value, but I have got discounts running. And whilst I live a bit countrified area, Openreach has put in fibre to the house (not a green box 2 mile down the road). I pay for 72 mbps, when I renew contract I will drop down probably to 37. Previously on copper cable I woud get 1.3 mbps and that was on a good day.
  4. That may have been better then breakdown in Poland. I know Poland was a bit raw in 1976, and I imagine not much better in 86.
  5. Can’t remember who we travelled with. Met the coach at Harwich, sailed to Bremerhaven, crossed Germany to enter Poland, for the next weekend we coached to Marianski Lazne for world long track. I remember in Poland being approached by a lady asking to exchange pounds for zlotys....well I think that is what she was after! On world final day, the wife got stuck in the hotel lift, and I was not too well pleased as we may be late. She wasn’t too pleased with me - don’t know why lol. We delayed at border leaving Poland going into Czech at Ostrava. One of the guys had too many Zlotys going out then he changed from pounds going in. That was a pain. Long track spectacular speed etc, but not as good as speedway IMO. Finally, we got the boat in Hamburg, but sailing down the river to North Sea the kitchens caught fire, eventful to say the least. Wonderful memories of the 1976 world final, now available on You Tube. After the mess at Wembley in 1975 when the over watered track by a spectator messed up PC world championship bid, and he should have got it. That’s when we decided to go to Katowice in 1976. My claim to fame was leading PC for the first half a lap in a grass track. He flew past me on the back straight so fast he would have been in the pits relaxing as I started the last lap. He was class.
  6. 1976, pleased to say “I was there”. The atmosphere was amazing, it was an open air stadium but the atmosphere matched Wembley. PC was brilliant. I heard he played it crafty and fluffed his practice laps to make the others think he was off form. Another YouTube not to miss. Search for “Peter Collins v Egon Miller Long Track”. Think it was 1982 world long track final, track was wet and dirty. Amazing race.
  7. Here is a copy of a paragraph from switch.com:- Ofcom regulations state that you’re allowed to break your contract penalty-free if your provider increases subscription fees from what was agreed when the contract was signed. .............. You have 30 days to ask to cancel, think that is from date on letter they send to say there is a price increase.
  8. Its just you said you went over a telephone limit and they charged you £7. That's should be a one off, unless it was so high like £90 and they agreed with you to take it over the next 12-13 months. That seems unlikey. I think under the new regulation they are limited to what annual increase they can do - like the CPI index, which is about 2%, so sounds like you were paying £65 per month, 2% of that is £1.30 per month, that should be your increase (approx.). Somethings going on.
  9. Are you really saying you went over a limit on the telephone, they charged you £7 which they probably entitled, but then you say they are going to charge you £7 per month till your contract ends Jan 2021. Either you telling porkies, are confused, or BT are not working correct. Where you say they put the price up after 3 month into a contract. That’s where the new law, which has been in existence some time now, allows you to pull out of the contract if you want when a price rise is applied.
  10. It will be WHEN they call a full lockdown...….I think next weekend.
  11. If prices go up during contract there is a legal obligation for supplier to cancel if customer wishes. Stopped the signing up then 3 months later a price rise, that is a surprise and the customer doesn't not want to pay.
  12. Not that easy, well, yes its easy to cancel DD, but that would cancel my broadband as well, and I dont want to do that. I just want cancel the TV package ie 2 TV boxes (I get banished to the bedroom when speedway or Mot GP is on.
  13. Got a message from BT earlier last week, they removing Movie 24 from the package I have on 31 March. Reason we joined BT TV was so I could watch speedway and the wife Movie 24. Now there is no speedway, MotoGP and now Movie24 dropped it gives me the legal right to cancel. Just have the problem now to talk to someone at BT.
  14. Aub, Norwich, Lawson in front to Peter Craven. Ron How, Wimbledon, in front of Briggo. Bottom left, Ken McKinley, Leicester. And I agree with Bavarian, Hofmeister between Briggo and Peter.
  15. Saw a news snippet last night, cant remember where, but BT can suspend packages until future time. Cant do a link, and some may already have seen this....but on www.speedwaygp.com website there is a fantastic race in Prague GP 2015 where NK Iversen gates last but ends up ...…….. Been some good snippets recently, no doubt more to come as no live speedway to comment on.
  16. Not going to get into the argument re Sunny v BV and Sheffield BUT Torun looks longer then BV, and for BV to be actually longer straights mmmm BV has been built into pre existing constraints, it could not be any bigger even if they wanted. I thought Mort went to a few tracks renowned for good racing including Torun, the shape, widths, banking angles, etc. But are you sure BV is bibber then Torun?
  17. Could it have something to do with the fact that some expertise in medical matters are needed at these large gatherings, and they could be better utilised elsewhere within the NHS - staff shortages
  18. How can you reduce 7 teams riding home and away.
  19. Because by the time this virus has eased off such that restrictions are dropped we could be a long way through the season, so much so there won’t be time to complete home and away meetings. So do something else to attract as many supporters as possible.
  20. There is a good chance that any league commitments will not be completed due to delays, so I would scrap the league this year and run as many matches as possible as challenge matches. Saves any frustration at the end of the year. Apart from that...... some tracks may not reach the end of the year anyway.
  21. I can see a lot of businesses, even some big ones, struggling through this, some even disappearing. I wonder how this will affect speedway sponsorship, either team or individual riders. Certainly GP riders require a lot of sponsorship to be competitive through a whole season, Emil went awol for 3 years cause he couldn’t raise funds to compete at highest level. we know sponsorship in Poland is crazy high, riders getting £1k per point it is said. What happens to Polish speedway if sponsorship collapses. Interesting times ahead.
