As much as I like and admire Bomber and want him to retain his GP status, finishing 11th. in a quarter final is not good enough to merit a wild card. As a top 8 finish is extremely unlikely we have to accept he will not be gracing the series next year. I understand Rob's view but winning a GP 9 years ago does not really count for much. How many finals has Bomber appeared in since Cardiff 2007?. I shall be sorry to see him exit the series but sadly every rider has a "sell by" date.

Two riders who in my opinion should have been World Champion, and not just once either...Gote Nordin and Soren Sjosten. Sverre Harrfeldt made World no. 2 but was good enough to go one better I feel. Had the World Final been held at Custom House I'm sure Sverre would have won it. -

A track record of 63 seconds on a Hyde Road "Mark 2" by a so-called junior shows the lad was flying. If this is what the NL can provide the people of Manchester, the sensible ones who watch speedway that is are in for a treat this year. -

Happy were the days I could go to West Ham, Hackney and Wimbledon in the same week, even though I didn't have a car -

The grass car track on the A59 would be ideal. Thanks for the offer -

I live in York and do not have a car. Sheffield would be the nearest track making a round trip of 4 buses and 2 trains. taking around 4 hours in total. The cost of travel plus entrance and programme is too much for me, as would be getting home at midnight. -

Coventry's New Stadium

I watched the first "Drive" programme last night which was filmed at Brandon. Admittedly I have not been to Brandon in 46 years and remember it as a first class venue. From watching last night it did seem to have become run down, so a new stadium should be welcome. I hope I am not being too harsh on Coventry or offending Bees fans, as Brandon was always one of my favourite venues in the 60's. -

As near as makes no difference the Ryde track and the old Custom House track are the same size. From memory, which may be faulty, race times at Custom House in the late 60's when I attended every week were around 70 secs. We all thought West Ham was a fast exciting track. The Ryde track record at NL level is 66.4 secs. making today's juniors, on this track at least as exciting to watch as the top guys back in the day when I was a regular. I think this old-time fan would rather enjoy a trip to the Island. -

I managed to get a copy of this bumper issue...my first copy of Speedway Star since 1985. What a cracking read for £2.90. I have already made a diary note to buy another copy next March .
