London is a long way for a lot of people too Cardiff is much better as it's in the centre of Cardiff so have the pubs etc within walking distance, as well as the train station, theres also plenty of parking around. Even the football fans don't want to go back to Wembley.

"" Official Gp Merchandise "
SCB replied to Namron's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Buy from Jasons website much better, also means BSI don't get the cash. Crumpy gives the money to a childrens charity. -
As adults get a free programme, I'm sure someone somewhere will have a programme that they don't want. Just ask anyone who is not planning on claiming their free programme to get it and you'll give them a couple of pound for it, that way, you both gain.

The track record was broke 3 times in the first 4 heats!
-
Nevs, exactly, I can't see the attraction
-
AFAIK, it's behind closed doors but it has bene possible to charm your way in. I cant see the attraction of practice myself, seeing the rider doing 8(?) laps each in an empty stadium, it just not the same.
-
The best one is when you need a 5-1 in heat 15 for the bonus point run off, your rider on gate one rolls, misses the start, the ref calls the riders back and in the re-run said rider flies from the start fairly and you get a 5-1 rather than the original looking 3-3. Having seen old film and tape touching, I think it adds to the aticipation, most of the time when someone touched the tapes, as they were rolling back the ref let the tapes up anyway so they lost out. Bring back rolling at the start!
-
BORING.. Bring back tape touching! I still think it's a good idea.

Steve, don't you mean as easy as CAB?!

I have this evening watched the 1983 Northern Rider Championship from Belle Vue. WOW, what a track. It was twice as wide as anything I have ever seen and longer than Exeter. I just wish I had got the change to go there at least once, what a great shame the place is no longer around, I know it won't be the same but I hope one day someone can re-create the track as it was so big, it's hard to imagine just how big and wide, even after hearing the stories. Chris Morton and Peter Collins, Amazing Does anyone have any videos they'd be willing to sell/loan me that feature Hyde Road, it would really be appreciated.

That looks nasty, hopefully it'll clear up soon.

Cardiff Attendance
SCB replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I have a friend who has been to a couple of Cardiff GP's but won't go to Newport Steve, Laura says she'll say hi this year, she is catching the train to Cardiff after work and will come and say hi for 5 minutes before going to see the Abba band. -
Do some people even read a thread? Or attend speedway? It was tried for a season and was boring, most of the passing in speedway is done in the first couple of laps so two extra were boring with riders just riding around following each other.

Jill got it, it can be too hard to understand!

British Gp Reserves Named
SCB replied to Lioness's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
But Splatty, Phil Morris was considered good enough to double up by Arena Essex but they would not allow it as he has done too well in the past, instead he is a number 8, os he is of the same standard as Kennett. Plus if Phil gates nobody is going to pass him up the inside and as none of the passing at Cardiff is around the outside he'd do well as he loves the inside line. As I said, I'd prefer to see a rider who has a good chance of getting a point, Rune Holta, Michael Max or someone of that stanard, not an EL reserve. In the old format when we could afford smeone who might struggle, because of the format, I'd have prefered Phil get a chance. -

You really think Ed Kennett will beat a GP rider? Has he beat anyone other than reserve for Poole this season? My point about Phil Morris is simple, if they're not picking the best (like they did in Sweden) why not pick someone local, not some no hoper from 200 miles away! -

That just shows the English ignorance to Welsh sport/pride. How many other nations of a similar size could fill up the Millenium Stadium to watch a football match they know they have little chance of winning? We go to support our sports men, something the English DONT do. They must be the only nation that don't. As I said, I agree they shouldn't really be in it anyway but neither should Kennett, what exactly is gained having him? I have to watch a 3 man race now if someone is excluded, may as well not have the reserve in the first place. Why not give Loram a chance? Or Max, Karlsson, Protasiweicz, Shields, Holta. Why does the rider have to be British? OR young, the rider should a rider who could just be involved in the race and entertain us, is that not what people pay for? Not to see some 18 year old PL second string ride around at the back with nobody giving a damn about him! Suprised nobody has comment on Steve Turners post, make sense, why not get loads of the young Britis there anyway, riding or not. -
Cambridge?!

No, some of us have always said have the best, you know, Norris, Loram, Havvy, Screen, Louis, Howe, in that order. So they had Nahlin and Max as they are local/ride for the local team. So why not Tony Atkin? Rides for the local team and is Welsh, or Phil Morris, he's local. Jamie Westacott, rides for the local team and is local himself. How will it benefit the GP, have you not realsied yet us Welsh will support the Welsh in a tiddly winks competition? You go to Cardiff and the English will support who ever rides for their team, the Welsh will support the Welsh. Get a local rider in and the local guy, Joe Public will be far more intrested. That said, I'd much prefer watching a wildcard/reserve who can actually win a heat, not Kennett, a PL second string for God's sake! I'd prefer Max or Karlsson (snr), Holta or just about any rider who rides in an EL 1-5 (Andy Moore excluded) instead of an EL reserve/PL second string. IF we do have to have a PL rider/EL reserve standard rider, why not the local man who the locals can support? HenryW sums it up well for me. -

Stead, yeah, fair enough might get a point if he gets a ride but Kennett will be spat out of the back. They'd have bene better off giving the chance to a local of a similar standard, Phil Morris!! I don't care about the bullrubbish about have big futures, why not give Jamie Westacott a chance? Local and I'm sure he's got a big future in the sport. -
Within reason they allow moving about, just don't steal someone elses seat. Last year, me and Jill didn't stay in our seats, we moved further around the top tier but we were rigt att he back.

The forum gang not good enough for you? It's tradition now that we go to Sams bar, then roll over the road, past the bookies (where a few of us pop in to throw a few pound away) to the Prince of Wales (posisbly via the chip shop where I tookt he poster form the window and spotted John Jorgensen) before finally rolling into the stadium via the ticket office. All in a nice line one after the other, well planned. But if we're not good enough.....
