Interesting new concept in track maintainance last night . Track foaming , water truck goes round and covers the track in bubbles . Didn't help the champions elect gate any better though .

I'm a Tigers fan , so not totally neutral . Wasn't really a great meeting , pretty much gate and go . And Newcastle were far superior at the gating bit .

A wee wake up call for the Monarchs tonight , you wont win nothing gating like you did tonight . Not a failure in the Diamonds side tonight and the victory margin could even have been greater but for bad luck . Robson's fall in heat 1 when on a 5-1 . Tully's ef when on a 5-1 and Vissing's dive in heat 13 when Worrall made a clean pass up his inside . You couldn't help but be impressed by the solidity of the Newcastle side , even Christian Henry's r/r rides yeilded a paid maximum . Dunno what the story was with Edinburgh , Sneddon , Tabaka and Davey were abysmal and even the blessed Cookie found himself on the wrong end of a 5-1 . Happy viewing for a long suffering Tigger , with Lindgren and Tully especially far better than anything the Monarchs had to offer . Lindgren was a bit wild in his opening ride , but was imperious after that till heat 15 . But the job was done by then . Newcastle put a big marker down tonight .

Ipswich have a terrific young talent in Adam Ellis , whose efforts last night kept Ipswich alive in the League Cup semi final against Edinburgh , yet you get an individual waging a personal and irrational war against him on here . Ok i know more than most what it's like to support a struggling team , and Ipswich are far from that , so some of the nonsense being spouted by one or two on Ipswich threads are a bit difficult to understand . But any Ipswich fan i have met , and i know a few personally , are a credit to the team they support .

I dont see what all the fuss is about . I don't see too much difference between Kennett , Barker or Bridger . All average EL riders not good enough at World level . So it didn't really matter which one was picked . The inclusion of the blessed Cookie is to be welcomed , with the hope that he can take the step up a level or two .

Last night's win at Workington was a bit of a shock , but shows the quality Ipswich have . I fear another long , disappointing afternoon .

Who says that will happen ? The last public flogging we got in the League Cup at Ashfield was administered in front of a decent sized crowd despite some silly football match going on elsewhere . I cant see the Wimbledon final , with or without Andy Murray , impacting too much . People going on holiday to Turkey , namely me , will have more of an affect on the size of the crowd that day

Reality has obviously kicked in . My brother got a wee bit overexcited about nearly beating an understrength mid table outfit .

There's not much to chose between the two , both are perfectly adequate . There is far worse in the PL than both of those

Sunday May 5th . That was the last time we had a setback in our quest for that coveted speedway trophy , the wooden spoon . That day we , somehow , beat title contenders Newcastle . But since then we have got our spoon quest back on track with a long line of defeats . This week's recipients of away points are the Ipswich Witches led by Ben Barker , Rohan Tungate and Leigh Lanham . The last time Tungate was up here , he ended up in hospital with an injury in an embarrassing place , this time things should have a more favourable ending . Glasgow continue to stumble along in glorious mediocrity , and it's hard to see us seriously troubling the Witches in what is surely a crucial away fixture in their play-off quest . We're having an armed forces day at Glasgow this Sunday , so maybe a couple of carefully aimed scud missiles into the Ipswich side of the pits might give us a fighting chance

I'm quite sure a tennis final or even the final round of the British Open golf ( which regularly clashes with the speedway too ) isn't a major consideration when compiling fixtures . There's also the British F1 GP clashing with this Sunday's meeting , plus the Eastenders omnibus on a Sunday . Seems the only reasonable course of action is to switch to a Friday night at Glasgow , to avoid all these sporting clashes .
