  1. I'm getting heartily sick of whinging Edinburgh fans moaning about the staging date / start time / time of the month / full moon , whatever . Today the weather has to be warm and sunny , okay there's a football match on but true speedway fans wont care about that . I hope there's a large contingent of Monarchs fans at Ashfield tomorrow , there's a better than even chance that they'll see their team win . But if they think it's going to be too difficult or would rather not bother , then such is life - it's their loss . Personally i think today's meeting will be a cracker and i hope the stay at homes enjoy the Antiques Roadshow or whatever other nonsense might be on the telly .
  2. On a night where the Workington reserves scored nearly as much as my team put together , it was a painful night being a Glasgow fan watching that . Even allowing for the fact that the Comets were strengthened to almost ridiculous proportions , we were abysmal . Seeing the white and yellow helmets trailing in almost half a lap behind , race after race , made us thank our lucky stars we'd had a good drink in Cockermouth beforehand . We were completely and utterly outclassed tonight . Only Screen and Jacobs can hold their head up tonight . James Wright used to bang in double figure scores round Derwent Park for fun once upon a time , tonight you'd have thought he'd never seen the place before . As for Bager , well ................... The Comets fans who just like to see 5-1's must have enjoyed tonight , but for ordinary speedway fans it was complete torture . Glasgow away from home is as about as entertaining as Eastenders on a depressing night . Dont get me wrong , the new Glasgow promotion are doing a lot of things right , our bus down to Workington today was partially subsidised by the promotion . But the days of Glasgow carrying a decent travelling support around the country must be in danger of ending should this level of mediocrity be allowed to continue . I love my club , with a passion , but nights like this make me wonder why i bother .
  3. I think it's actually hilarious . Just highlights how farcical the guest system can be . You have two journeyman riders , Aarnio and Mills , two steady PL riders , but as good as they're ever going to be . And they have been replaced by two of the most improved and promising riders in the PL this year , Tabaka and Dyer . It might only be for one night , thankfully for the rest of the league , but would a team consisting of Lawson , Tabaka , Bach , r/r , Harrison , Kerr and Dyer actually lose any meetings home or away . I somehow don't think so . If and when we reach the 20 mark tonight , possibly round about heat 12 or 13 , we'll do a conga on the back straight .
  4. Hahaha , we'd be lucky to get 30 at Ashfield against this side , never mind down there . Hope they're down to normal strength when they come up to ours in early June .
  5. Are you i'm going too , but still trying to work out why I know it's all above board and i know the speedway star averages include bonus points etc , but on 2013 form . Terrible Aarnio 7.12 - Tobacco Joe 8.48 . Chris Mills 5.91 - Micky Dyer 8.74 . Ashley Morris 5.22 - Lewis Kerr 7.13 . Plus they all can have a r/r ride lol . So we thought we were onto a hiding with the normal Comets septet , but this line up would romp the Premier League . I think i might have to have a few in Cockermouth beforehand to numb the pain
  6. Third time lucky for our first visit from the binmen this season . Twice we've tried and twice the rain has said no , but the forecast is pretty good this Sunday . The mob from the East are now beginning to get into their stride and are now beginning to batter all before them . Impossible to beat on their own , erm , technical circuit , Plymouth last Saturday became the first away league win on their quest to fulfil their pre-season status as title favourites . Craig Cook has started 2013 as impressive as he finished 2012 , but he has plenty of support from the latest septet in blue and gold . While they are flying high , we come into this meeting wounded after last week's home reverse and likely thumping at the PL select side in Cumbria on Saturday evening . But even though this is a dead rubber as far as League Cup qualification goes , there's never a meaningless meeting between the Tigers and The Forces of Evil . Sunday's teams - Plucky Underdogs 1 Joe Screen 2 Henning Bager 3 James Wright 4 Joey Ringwood 5 James Grieves 6 Harley Horwood 7 Joe Jacobs THEM 1 Craig Cook 2 Desperate Deek 3 Theo Pijper 4 The Golden Child 5 Claus Vissing 6 Mitchell Davey 7 Tobacco Joe No predictions necessary , let's just turn the form book on it's head and bring this mob down a peg or two .
  7. Workington's guests make them much stronger on Saturday
  8. This was going to be a tough meeting for us , but since the Comets have turned into the PL all stars - it looks impossible now . We go there in the hope that Derwent Park suits our new Aussies , and James Wright remembers how good he used to be round there , but with the guests Workington have drafted in for the likes of Mills , we'll be lucky to reach 30 .
  9. Last Friday Nicolai Klindt guested in place of Jason Doyle for Somerset . The reason being that Doyle was down to ride for Birmingham and the Somerset meeting was a rearranged fixture . Last night Lindgren was down to ride for his Swedish club as the Newcastle meeting was a rearranged fixture . Explain to me the difference between these two cases and why you think Lindgren and Newcastle should be fined ?
  10. Thoroughly enjoyed last night's meeting , great track and some cracking racing . It was nip and tuck with Berwick just edging it until Paul Starke's unpleasant actions . There's nothing worse in annoying your average speedway fan than what Starke did last night , but as it turned out his actions only seemed to fire up the Diamonds even more and they ran out comfortable winners . I honestly didn't mind who won the meeting until that incident , then i was all for the visitors . Just as baffling was the apparent disappearance of Eddie Kennett in the two races the Bandits were depending on him the most . Still despite the contraversy it was a terrific meeting and another triumph for the Premier League .
  11. There wont be . I'm sure this can be settled to everybody's satisfaction
  12. No it's not , but unfortunately for Ipswich this young asset has decided he'd rather stay at the place that gave him his chance . No point in trying to hold onto a rider that would rather be somewhere else .
  13. I'm at a loss to understand Louis' response . If he wanted to hang on to young Joe , then he only had to hand him a Witches team place this season . The lad has become very popular at Glasgow , he loves riding for the Tigers and sees his immediate future with the club that was willing to give him a chance . I think it's in everyones interest just to get the deal done .
  14. Certainly an enigma . He's become almost totally reliant on his gating these days , when he misses the gate he might as well ride straight into the pits
  15. Very disappointing today . Track looked fine after all yesterday's rain , but it was evident from the first couple of heats that it wasn't quite right with riders two-wheeling going into the bends instead of sliding . Then we have a track grade and Doolan promptly comes out and equals the track record . After that the racing was good enough , though we were basically second best to a decent looking Leicester side . Doolan was impressive when he gated , Bjerre looked fast though he was a bit naughty on Grieves down the back straight in heat 7 . Just as well James was holding his wrist tenderly or he might have put one on Bjerre's chin . But Leicester's real star was Magnus Karlsson , he was absolutely brilliant today . If he has to step down when Adam Roynon is fit, we'll have him . For us , well i'm afraid this result has been coming . Four race wins ( two each from Screen and Grieves ) simply wont win you many meetings . The boys tried hard , but Leicester looked that bit sharper and faster . So we'll just have to lick our wounds and dust ourselves down for next weekend . It's only Worky away and the Self proclaimed champions elect at home ...........toffee .
  16. Since Alun , and Gordon Pairman , will be at Ashfield today . Then any announcement will be coming from the top .
  17. Newcastle , assuming two track is back , is the only team equiped to give the Monarchs a run for their money at the dump this season .
  18. Another close encounter looks on the cards this Sunday as the Leicester Lions come calling on league business . Hopefully the weather will get it's act together and give us a dry afternoon for a change . Familiar faces spearhead the Leicester attack . Popular 2006 Tiger Kauko Nieminimininen is their main man , backed up by another ex-Tiger Kevin Doolan and ex-Monarch Magnus Karlsson . They also have baby Bjerre , which makes them look troublesome opponents . Berwick cast off Alex Edberg also dons a Lions racejacket as their reshuffle at reserve continues . Teams for Sunday - Glasgow 1 Joe Screen 2 Henning Bager 3 James Wright 4 Joey Ringwood 5 James Grieves 6 Harley Horwood 7 Joe Jacobs Leicester 1 Kauko Nieminen 2 Jan Graversen 3 Lasse Bjerre 4 Kevin Doolan 5 Magnus Karlsson 6 Alex Edberg 7 Rob Branford The Leicester side is probably completely wrong , as it seems to change on a regular basis . Anyway for our point of view , a return of the normal James Grieves would be most welcome and more of the same from the rest of the lads . There's a GP night in the bar on Saturday . Starts at 5p.m. and there's a small £2 charge for the finger buffet .
  19. Was surprised this even went ahead , never mind giving us as much entertainment as it did . Scunny were well worth the draw , but it was a credit to both teams and the trackstaff that we got as good a meeting as we did . There was a decent racing , especially Birks' move in heat 14 to go from 3rd to 1st round the outside on the 4th bend . But there were multiple passing lines as Henning proved when getting the inside line to work on a couple of occasions . Great to see the big man having a decent meeting . Cant be too critical of James Grieves , he's been our saviour on so many occasions in the past , let's hope he gets over soon what was bothering him today .
  20. I'm heading into town and the pub shortly , but i'm sure folk will keep posting updates
  21. Rain off again where i am , fingers crossed it stays off . Getting heartily sick off this every week
