There wasn't a speedway updates service in those days, let alone the internet. We used to have to wait until almost midnight to find out that days speedway results on Teletext/Oracle, sometimes not up until the next day.

At my place of work we have to start submitting our leave requests in October for the following April-Xmas period, 3 or 4 months before the fixtures are released. Inevitably July, August and the first half of September are the first to be snapped up for family holidays. No good if you're a speedway fan. I've had to go "sick" a couple of times for the Rockets northern tour, usually in late July/early August.

Some people like to plan a few days of speedway over 2, or 3 leagues I guess, not just follow one team?

A white one with straps and buckles?
-
Heard him interviewed at Rye a few years back. Don't think it was injury. Think it was work related.
-
Seem to recall Karl Fiala on a similar average when he retired in the early 80's in his mid 20's

Yates & Smiith definitely ring a bell.

My first ever speedway meeting was Rye v Poole in September 1985, first part of a double header. Back then they were the Wildcats. Poole won 40-38, Rob Woffinden broke a collarbone in his second outing. Rockets smashed Edinburgh 57-21 in the second half. Can't remember many of the Poole riders that day, the programme is buried in a box somewhere, but the name Stan Bear stands out.

Best burger at any speedway track I've been to and those Scotch pies!! I presume the Andersons are still doing the catering? -
They closed pretty soon after I began to watch speedway in 1985. I think they won the NL that year

I was at the Emirates last week for the League Cup game against Southampton. At half time I popped down to the lower level to catch up with some friends. Couldn't believe how many people were queuing for food and drink at the overpriced outlets. When the teams came out for the second half there were still hundreds of people queuing. Some of them must've missed a good 10-15 minutes of the game. It's barmy!!

Why do people take the cost of food and drink into consideration when mentioning attending sporting events? Take your own food and drink with you, or if travelling a fair distance buy a bag of chips before you go to the stadium.

Rye promotion taking a chance stepping up with the increased costs. Admission up a couple of quid, which helps, but I really think they're banking on returning fans disillusioned with some of the poor teams put out recently. I also reckon they'll be expecting a good few Lakeside fans to swell the numbers as well. Sky exposure will help attract a few sponsors too. There are a couple of motorbike dealerships opening within the stadium. The rent they'll be paying will go into the kitty too I expect. Somerset promotion, I suspect, are nowhere near as financially comfortable as Rye's, hence this line up. It would be crazy to write them off though.

Such negativity from fans of sides who haven't declared a single rider yet.
-
"Should be" is a risk worth taking?
-
Rye fans love him because he's a trier. Never knows when he's beat and a real character. One we all wanted to see back.
-
George is well thought of at Rye and is almost part of the family, but he's not even Championship ready, let alone Premiership. I doubt the promotion would carefully put together a good side then spoil it with a rookie. Bowtell is more likely, but I think we could do better.
-
I reckon he'll be just fine, but thanks for your concern

Went right over my head that. I thought you were just being a bit dim. -

Where does it say that? -
These people deal in £'s. They have no interest in the feelings of a few hundred speedway supporters. When housing goes up on the site in a couple of years time it'll be mission accomplished

I'm not up to speed with the top league yet. Does the injury RR rule still exist?
