Rye House V King's Lynn 15/04/17

You too Baggy. Been a long time. I've gotta say I was intrigued when I received that text from a number I didn't recognise. I was wondering if it was someone who wanted to punch my lights out, which is why I surrounded myself with some large gentlemen, much like an NFL quarterback -

You're probably right, but I'm convinced he'll end up elsewhere. Not sure I'm liking the Robert Mear rumours going around. That would be a terrible signing. May as well get Boxall back -

Saw some shockers during the 2005 PL title winning season at Rye, gate and go against teams that were beat before a wheel was turned. Rye was a fortress then and the crowds ate it up. Every meeting I've seen at Leicester has been dreadful -

In that case I wonder why he wasn't on the track walk. Perhaps as he'd not contributed points wise felt awkward. That didn't stop Peter Karger last year -
Liam Carr was carrying an injury from Fridays meeting at Edinburgh I'm told. Nevertheless, nice lad, but out of his depth away from reserve. Need to find a permanent replacement for Blacklock if he's not to return soon. Even if he does I'm not convinced he's at the standard required. He does seem to fall a lot. Must be better out there. Can't afford to carry anyone if you have a side without any big hitters

Go to Leicester much? Had a blank canvas to produce something special, but managed to build a one line track with boring processional racing. Tonight wasn't great, but it was all about the result after a disappointing week. -

Not a classic by any means, but you either don't go to speedway much, or Torun is your home track -

I have to hold my hands up and confess that I had grave doubts about Perks when I heard we'd signed him. Never impressed me on previous appearances, but has come on a bundle. Looks aggressive and confident. Someone said tonight he reminded him of Tyson Nelson, but with a brain. Not surprised with Watts early getaway. The bloke must be as low on confidence as it's possible to get. Writing must be on the wall now. I can even see him jumping before he's pushed. Let's hope the promotion have a back up ready and waiting. Even RR would be a better option right now -
The make up of the Bandits side means you're always gonna struggle towards the end of meetings. Not surprised they've started poorly

Speedway fans are a strange breed. If Berwick were winning at home every week, but the racing was boring and processional you'd still have folk complaining.

It means Swindon pulled a fast one using RR for Ellis last week. Rumours that he's back in the side tomorrow, just 10 days after breaking a bone in his wrist. -

They tried to replace Karger last year, but he was injured before he'd had the required meetings. Wells would be handy as he can gate, but my hunch is a return for NBJ. Schlein I think will end up elsewhere. -

After a quick calculation, Davey Watt averaging below 3 points. Surely this can't be allowed to continue? -

Don't be so sure. His decline has been sad and dramatic. Looks completely shot of confidence. Wasn't even on post meeting track walk. We saw a van leaving shortly after the interval. Decent meeting with close racing, but not a lot of passing. Great max from the captain and Ellis Perks continues to impress. Porsing the stand out rider for the visitors. Need to attend to the public address system on the home straight by the start line. Could hardly hear what was being announced. A welcome if unspectacular win when it looked like the Stars had clawed their way back from a poor start. -
After the pre season optimism and promising first meeting it all seems to have stalled before the end of April. Tough decisions need to be made
-
Garrity left Rye House under a cloud. Doubt he'd be asked back, but you never know. NBJ is available and would welcome a return he told me. Can't see this promotion making knee jerk changes after three meetings, unless Watt decides to step down voluntarily. We don't need a reserve change

Tie was lost last Thursday when Ellis was injured. RR killed us, 17 points over the two legs. No way on earth would Ellis have got near that. Add to Davey Watts pitiful haul of 5 points from 7 rides and there you have it. By my reckoning he's averaging 3.66 after 3 meetings, 2 of them at home. The only opposition riders he's finished ahead of are Bellego, Thorssel & Clegg.

Yeah, you

Swindon benefitted massively using RR for Adam Ellis, by 10 points and we were missing Rob Branford. Those two factors, plus the slick track made the difference. I still think KL will win comfortably. Watt & Robson are woefully out of nick -
Oh balls. I must make an appointment at the opticians. Arsenal weren't even formed until 1886. Not even gonna bother to edit that post 😂

Lucky guy. Not been to either of those. Walked round the Lough a few years ago amongst the weeds and derelict buildings before they completely flattened it. Very eerie and dead quiet

At around start time I'll be standing in my kitchen in Hoddesdon cooking dinner after a 12 hour shift at work. First game was October 1970, 4-0 v Everton. My uncle bought a ticket off a tout and bribed the gate man to let me and my brother under the turnstile in the upper east. We sat on his knees. Next game was Boxing Day same year, 0-0 v Southampton on a snow covered pitch. Didn't go again until 1975 when I became a North Bank regular when my parents allowed me to go with mates, until 1882 when I decided I wanted some comfort and nabbed a season ticket in the lower East, almost directly behind the away dugout about half way up. Gave that up after the last game at Highbury. I still remember the ticket number. Block J, row L, seat 80. How sad is that? Nearest thing to a proper pie shop (one that serves liquor) is in Skipton. Been there once. Run by an ex pat up from the smoke. It's not bad, but it looks more like a cafe than a pie shop. Piddling amount of liquor they serve up too.

Been once in the last 2 seasons, the LC defeat to Southampton was the last straw. Don't think I've seen a league match there for 3 or 4 years. Highbury was my temple. This place just feels like a corporate machine just there to empty your wallet. To me, Arsenal FC died the day we left Highbury.

Been to the Abbey three times. First time was the first year Rye rode PL early 2000's, then a CL meeting in the same season I think. Last time was an EL meeting with Poole the Thursday before the Cardiff GP in 2011. That's gonna be my last visit, relocating to the North East in a few weeks. The closest Premiership away track will be Belle Vue, over 200 miles away! The nearest Pie & mash shop 160 miles, Emirates Stadium 335 miles!!I love proper cider too. Like to pop into Riches cider Farm when I'm down at the Oak Tree Arena. Oh, and I'm a Cockney too, born in Bethnal Green
