  1. What a disaster for Speedway. Every one of those live matches on TV means less and less people will go to see matches at the track. It would be alright if the TV money made up for the lack of spectators but is does not.
  2. One must wonder how a court case like this can succeed. Mildenhall Speedway only operates at the most every other week yet the USA airbase operates planes 24 hours a day. Does this mean that people on main roads can take their local councils to court for the noise and pollution of traffic outside their houses.
  3. Many of the arguements on here are simply not thought through and most people know why As most of the stadiums are not owned by Speedway promoters they cannot pick which night of the week they can race on. The thought of all matches taking place on a Monday is ludicrous . To start with it's the worst night to promote Speedway. With a live match on Sky TV on Mondays as well the other matches would be lucky to get a gate of 1000. That would mean in one season the EL would be finished. Mind you it will never happen as most teams would know it would be financial suicide. Surely when Belle Vue move into their new stadium they would certainly not run on a Monday night . A weekend fixture would certainly double their gate. The best solution would be to say to all riders do you want to ride in GP's or do you want to ride in the British, Polish or Swedish leagues. The sooner the split comes the better it will be for British Speedway.
  4. Surely the ideal solution would be to have a GP at Wembley as well as Cardiff. If Poland can have three then surely Great Britain could have two. If this ever came about there would certainly be more at Wembley than there would be at Cardiff
  5. Wembley Stadium but not much around it .I cannot believe somebody could say this. It's four stops on the tube to Oxford Circus. What more could you want.
  6. Clair Balding made a great goof talking about 15,000 eyes will be on the men's finalist's when they walk onto the centre court. Where did they get all these one eyed spectators from
  7. Wembley with 50/60 thousand spectators there every week Riders coming out on the track to the music "The march of the Gladiators" and the cannon going off at the end of every race. The second halves sometimes had 4 or 5 riders from other London clubs combined with the home and away teams. This was completely unique to Wembley
  8. Oh dear . A great crowd and a lovely evening and a good line up. Absolutely ruined by the tapes going up quicker on the outside. So I would presume that Kolodziez will have first choice in the final which will be 4 he will be the winner
  9. Lets put this arguement to sleep one and for all.. No bookmaker will take a bet on even a double on the same rider let alone an accumulator.. On the odds they advertise they are for singles only so even the 1000-1 said by Nigel and Kevin was just plucked out of the air.
  10. Ever since the Grand Prix have started the attendances have gone down at all Speedway meetings. This also applies to the leagues in Sweden and Poland. Until the leagues completely split from the GP's speedway will suffer. Hardly any of the GP riders make a profit out of it . League matches have to be cancelled because of it The riders should be given a choice either ride for us or clear off to the GP circus. Why should teams lose riders when their stars get injured in GP's. BCI will not pay them any compensation. Oh for the days when anybody could enter the world championship and had three championship rounds with the highest scorers going through to the next stages of the world championship. Last night's Grand Prix under the old system Troy Batchelor would have been the winner. HE won more races that anybody else . Darcy Ward went through the card in Prague yet never even made the final' BCI put nothing into Speedway , they only take money out. ,
  11. 100% agree with you. After beating every rider in the first 20 heats Troy Batchelor should be the winner.. It's not right that you finish 8th after 5 rides then win the final Even worse in Prague as Darcy Ward won his first 5 rides and beati every rider yet did not even make the final. A fairer way would be the winner of the first 20 heats would go to a Grand Final. The riders finishing 2nd to 9th go into a normal semi final and final . Then the winner of this would go into a match race with the top points scorer of the first twenty heats. I'm sorry but that is pure rubbish Troy Batchelor odds to win his first 5 heats were 8/1, 5/1, 4/1, 8/1, 4/1. For those 5 alone the odds are 12,149-1
  12. They are the odds on Troy going through the card. No bookmaker would give you a 1000-1 either. Corals, B/Win, Unibet or Betclic will not give me £100 at evens on a Speedway bet. . Expekt closed my account down and I have £263 in it which I cannot get out.
  13. The true odds on Troy Batchelor going through the card were 66,824 to 1 and not the 1,000 to 1 that Kevin and Nigel said It was over 12000 to 1 just for a 5 card maximun You could have had 100-1 to win just the meeting
  14. It looks like both the top two leagues will have a record number of guests bookings this season but which rider has had the most. Could it be Adam Ellis of Lakeside. Was last seasons top guest Kevin Doohan.
  15. It's going to be one hell of a scramble to see who is going through to the semi final
  16. In a recent poll in Scotland the Scots said they would not want the Euro as a currency and would prefer to stick with the Giro
  17. Ever since Speedway first started in USA in the 1880/90's and named after the stadiums where they were raced in they were put on by a promoter to make money. He then offered prize money for the riders as a reward for riding in them. Nothing has altered. Speedway is run for the riders and the promoters to make money. Most riders could not care less who they ride for as long as they are earnling money. Most riders when interviewed on a live TV match have not got a clue what the score is. Some riders in a season must have guested for nearly all the teams in a league.besides riding in other leagues as well .All the promoters want to do is put on a good meeting preferably with the home side just winning but essentially making a profit.
  18. Yet there are less people watching Football today now than there has been in the last 60 years
  19. Suggest you look at attendances at other sports on TV. Most football matches from the lower league Stadiums are 75% empty. Cricket counry matches are nearly alway empty. Watching live tennis on mornings on TV there would perhaps be 100 people watching. Thats probable the top three sports most people are interested in this country.
  20. Looks like it will be a long night .s they are still working on the track. Where are all the fans. The stadium is about a quarter full.
  21. are we actually saying here. Is it the best peformances for a rider in Ipswich colours or the best Ipswich rider that rode for other teams as well. Surely the best two Ipswich riders were John Louis and Billy Sanders. Whose who rode for other clubs-take your pick---many world champions among them.
  22. There are many more stadiums that have opened in the UK than ever been closed. The reason they are having new stadiums abroad is they are being paid for by the local authorities. All the top stadiums in Sweden are owned by the local councils compared to the UK. Do any local authorities own a Speedway Stadium in the UK?
