Not quite sure what you mean by the sport has contracted . so name a year and look to see how many clubs there were then and how many are there now.So if you said 1960 ,I would think there are more clubs today than there were in 1960

World Champion 2015
mickthemuppet replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
So I presume you have never heard of The Laguta Brothers, Martin Vaculik (Who I rate very highly) or Bartosz Zmarlik. That's six riders that are not in the GP's next year -
World Champion 2015
mickthemuppet replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Shame that the next GP world champion will not be the best rider in the world.as there are as many good riders who are not the GP's as are in it -
Darcy Ward
mickthemuppet replied to Seymour Dix's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yes he broke the rules but this is 14 months after the event happened. He would only get 1 year maximum in a civil court in this country . So how many years do you think he should get. At the rate Speedway is going it could all be finished before people like you let him ride again -
Darcy Ward
mickthemuppet replied to Seymour Dix's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
With Speedway trying to establish GP's in the Southern Hemisphere , they would be stupid not to have Darcy Ward in the Australian GP next year. This could be the difference between success or failure. Lets hope everybody sees sense and he is allowed to ride. -
In the case of the objection of Mildenhall Speedway because of the noise that perhaps lasts for 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon for the summer months. Go just across the road and you have the USA base which is the busiest US base in Europe This operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Why do nobody object to this . Do Speedway bikes make more noise than jet planes. This case should have been laughed out of court.

Not Clive Webb is it?

Speedworth do not own Yarmouth stadium nor do they own Foxhall Stadium. The Foxhall stadium is owned by Ipswich Speedway Limited and is leased to Speedworth

Prem League Entrance Fee
mickthemuppet replied to scaramanga's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Do not go to Horseracing at Newmarket . I went recently there and saw 8 minutes racing for £25(plus £7.00 parking). without any food or drink. . Makes Speedway a bargain price then -
One of the main complaints about current Speedway is the riders moving round from one team to another every year. So what is wrong with Ipswich keeping the same team as last year or very close to it. It is not as if they finished near the bottom of the league so why do we have over 200 posts about changing the team. Some of the criticisms of many of the riders on here are unjustified.

No true though is it Philip . Ipswich seem to have one meeting a season on a Saturday night and the crowd is always larger as it was this season .If it were not true they would not run these Saturday night meetings would they.

2015 Ice Speedway Gladiators
mickthemuppet replied to customhouseregular's topic in International World of Speedway
How about Jason Garrity. He would be a natural because half the time he looks like he is riding on ice -
Of course you are right as Wembley in the late 40,s used to average 55,000 per meeting and in the 1970,s up to 20,000..But since then the team meetings have dropped considerably although the individual events like the Daily Express Classic and Internationale still drew 20,000 crowds. Then there were the World Championship rounds like Intercontental, Overseas and UK Finals. It would not surprise me if Ipswich get one of their biggest crowds this Thursday which is a individual meeting.. Excepting the play offs, which many people hate, when was the last time there was a big crowd for a league meeting.

Pity you could nt mention that Jaroslav Hampel won the Grand Prix , which was the easiest for many a year.

2014 European Speedway Championships
mickthemuppet replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
How about, besides Emil and the Luguta brothers and Peter Kilderman there is Bartoz Smarzlik,Martin Vaculik ,Maciej Janowski, Jan Kolodiez Jason Doyle and Thomas Johansson. Darcy Ward and NielsIversen are both currently out of the GP's as well Although Greg Hancock is leading the 2014 table he is not a good a rider as he used to be due to the standard being so poor, at the moment. He won 4 GP's in 2011 and has not won that many adding the last three years together. Hampel ,Lindgren . Harris , Pedersen have all seen better days. The world champion Tai Woffinden finished the Elite League season with an average of 7.73. Is that the lowest average that a current world Champion has had since it all started in 1936. -
2014 European Speedway Championships

It looks like at the moment the best riders are not currently in the Grand Prix's Or could it be that todays GP riders are the worst since the GP's started -
2015 Sgp & Swc Calendar
mickthemuppet replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What the TV companies pay for live Speedway in this country is a pittance With the repeats of Speedway that Eurosport show it probably does not work out much more than £100 a programme. Speedway would be much better off without live speedway on television. Since Speedway has been shown live in this country the gates have gone down at all stadiums -

Vojens Gp 2014
mickthemuppet replied to Ghostwalker's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It was all permanent. It was a proper speedway track -
Many thanks brandonbee on your summing up of TV and Speedway. Can anybody explain that as Speedway is such a minority sport why has there been more Live Speedway on the Television this year than any other year before. Now with Bet365 Elite League matches you can watch Speedway every night of the week. I know this is business but when they perfect it ,all these armchair matches will eventually kill people appetite to go and watch live.as it is gradually doing now. All live Speedway should be taken off the screens so that if people want to see Speedway they will have to go to the track.
