Am i really the only person in the world who thinks the '81 Final is overrated?? The Olsen and Knudsen v Penhall races are both top drawer, but the rest of the racing is pretty mediocre i'd say. Rosey Specs for most i suspect.

Correct Shawn. Loram's World Title was won using the knock-out formula. Joe Screen throttling back so as not to pass Loram for 2nd in heat 20 at Bydgoszcz is a vivid memory.

Pip Austen rode 23 matches for Long Eaton in Division 2 during 1974. Averaged 3.63 with a top league score of 5. No idea what happened to him after that, but he didn't ride any more league matches for anyone.

Norris spent half a season as a Reading rider way back in 1995, hardly likely to make much difference i'd say.

Jokers and Tac Subs out, a reserve in who you can use a maximum of 4 times to replace riders. 7 man teams would never work as there isn't sufficient depth. Some teams barely score anything when picking 5 men never mind finding 7.

Considering it was a major event, i have to say that both the track and stadium did little to enhance Speedway's fragile reputation.

Resting Stead wasn't the issue. Picking him in the 1st place was. By not using him for his last 2 Middlo basically proved he'd made a mistake as Stead is generally poor at Reading. Also, his use of the joker beggered belief. Heat 20 was the obvious option.
