Newcastle Diamonds V Ipswich Witches 25/5
screm replied to tilersrus's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Newcastle fans should be hugely proud of their team this morning giving the effort they put in last night, a victory all the more remarkable when Newcastle had a weakened team and one of their better riders (Lindgren) didn't exactly have one of his better nights. Rider of the night was King, his ride in Ht13 from 15m was incredible, to get second was one thing but he was actually challenging for the lead. Credit to for Mills who was only dropped from Workington 24hrs previous, he fought hard throughout and his points went along way to helping Newcastle get their win. Excellent meeting, decent track, good night of speedway. -
Condolences to friends and family. Ride in Peace.

Although its nor exactly local, there`s a ODI at Durham today, might be an idea to keep an eye on that. At the minute there`s plenty blue sky`s and sunshine. -

I`m sure the Newcastle promotion know what they are doing, and will get it right in the end, but I think the Newcastle team was stronger before they made the changes. -

If you were there in the audience then I hope you enjoyed your night, if you were on stage then the thought of you in a tootoo is not a particular attractive one for a Sunday morning. Grajconek would've been on his way to or at Lakeside where he should've been riding for Poole, that meeting was called off mid-late afternoon. -

We don't want to be upsetting people. -
Surely Workington have to drop another rider, 42-90 minus 3-05 is 39-05, leaving only 2-65 to put them back up to the 42-50 limit.

A message from Laura Morgan the owner of Workington Speedway Tonight Steve, Tony and I have had to do one of the hardest jobs is speedway and that is to tell a rider he doesn't have a team place anymore. We told Chris Mills tonight at the Berwick rain off meeting that we have found it necessary to change the team to try and strengthen it for the remainder of the season. As always from the beginning, when Chris joined the team, he was a gentleman to deal with and understood the reasons behind the change. We have found Chris to be professional and a delight to deal with and he will always be a friend of Workington Speedway. I hope you will join us in wishing Chris well for the future and he is welcome back at Derwent park anytime. Laura News of Chris's replacement will be made in the next couple of days. Taken from the Workington official site. -

Its clear Workington must drop at least one more rider to make any kind of change. Their team average is 42-90, Mills average is 3-05, so another riders Workington race jacket is hanging on a shoogly peg. -

The powers that be should really think about making speedway into a summer sport. You have to feel for all the Workington fans who travelled over, some didn't go into the stadium so at least they saved a bit of money. Things looked reasonable leading up to start time, then further rain came just before the scheduled start and to be honest that was always going to be that, though they did try to let the rain pass. -

So far Workington have qualified for the Semi-Finals of the LC, and as I posted earlier a win tonight will see them in joint 4th place in the PL, to me that's a decent start to the season but I`m seeing words like shambles describing the teams performance, which IMO it isn't and as Tsunami has pointed out there are teams having a harder time than Workington. -

Hopefully then we will be pushing tonight's meeting through, though finding a gag big enough for Mr Barrie could be a problem. -

Edinburgh Vs Newcastle (23rd May)

The bit I copied it from was taken from the Edinburgh Speedway Twitter page, take it up with them old bean or have a look for yourself, maybe you can post the bit I`ve missed, but for the life of me I cant find. It was tweeted on the 23rd (yesterday) under the heading "A new era begins". Another madman round here, how would anyone tell the difference. Fair point, I will bare it in mind. -

They seem to be a hard lot to please over at Workington, a 4pt away win tonight will see them join Berwick in 4th place in the PL table. This will only be Workington's 4th PL, still lots of meetings and lots of points to race for. -

With averages now changing to a smaller degree over a longer time, riders take longer to move around, but the point is correct that should Kus or anyone else have a spell at reserve that can only be good news for the team. It reminds of the team we had some years ago where Smith, Wilkinson and Piertrasko all had spells at reserve and Berwick had a very good season. Don't see Berwick hitting those scores, I think Workington are far better than that. Could easily be as close as it was last night.
