eric i
swindon supporters club posted the following........... No dates yet for either SBC or Wilts Council Planning Committee decisions on the Abbey Stadium and Studley Grange planning applications. Speedway fan feedback on the Abbey Stadium plans has been very light in numbers! As previously mentioned, it is VERY important that followers of the sport feedback on the plans, and express how important retaining a speedway facility is to them and the town - a lack of feedback suggests to the Council that people don't care! Don't lose speedway in Swindon for ever through apathy, make your voice heard today! Send an email to SDevelopmentControl@swindon.gov.uk stating you object to planning applications S/25/1177 and S/25/1182. Help with planning reasons for your objection can be found in the downloadable document at the foot of this link https://www.swindon-needs-speedway.com/abbey-stadium... ANY HOPE OF A SPEEDWAY FACILITY IN SWINDON IS VERY LIKELY TO BE LOST IF YOU CONTINUE TO DO NOTHING! PLEASE ACT TODAY! SHOW SBC WHY THEY MUST REJECT THESE PLANS!
frigbo
Swindon Speedway 2013 Director Steve Park has submitted a letter to SBC supporting the demolition of the Abbey Stadium! He claims rejection of the plans "will end any possibility of a return of speedway to Swindon" - bizarrely, he earlier claims that Studley Grange is "currently making progress through the planning stages." So, which is it, Steve? Will the weird logic of failure to remove the only speedway track in the locality really end all hope? Or are you delivering a new track? I'll let others speculate on what a speedway company director could possibly gain from the loss of the only speedway facility... https://pa.swindon.gov.uk/publicaccess/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=T2SDBXPTIS200 Edited February 18 by frigbo

There's no hope for Speedway at Swindon, so you can go ahead and knock the Abbey stadium down? Why would someone be such a weasel? A cynic might think that with the sad demise of Terry Russell, there is now only one weak obstacle in Clarke Osborne's way. Clarkey boy might then have a look through his stationery cupboard at the brown envelopes, while he tries to think of a way to persuade the obstacle to disappear. orion
Why would not knocking the stadium down stop any chance speedway not returning to Swindon ? So its begs the question why does Park want it knocked down ? He tells us that there no link between the Abbey being knocked and being built on and the Studley project so why would it concern him ? People always said that they were getting paid to get out of the abbey and this can only add and fuel to that claim . Strangely, it coincides with the ramping up of the campaign against the demolition of the Abbey. Why would someone not personally involved in development, presumably having nothing to gain, want the stadium demolished? Park’s involvement was solely with the speedway promotion, so the fate of the Abbey should be irrelevant unless… Edited February 19 by Toady

Regrettably a Speedway track would never be permitted there.
