Workington 2025

Recommended Posts

Just read this, complete shock. Whatever it is i'm pretty sure the management must have been blind sided.

Like other Comets fans no doubt, I too have travel arrangements arranged/ hotels booked for 2 out of the 3 away meetings beginning with the visit to Shielfield tomorrow. Looks like I'll be smelling bird poo instead of methanol fumes as well now, not quite the same is it.

Everyone blaming anyone bar the Workington promotor… interesting.

But if it is a visa issue,  apparently these are confirmed  seconded or agreed by a controlling body ??  He bapa Don't they confirm a team declaration?

If the management have been blind sided as you suggest, then they shouldn't be management.

No one is blaming anyone but as per the release the issue is in hand so i think anyone speculating is doing just so out of curiousity more then being in the know

* Governing Body Endorsement: This is a critical requirement. The rider's application must be endorsed by the relevant UK sports governing body for speedway. This endorsement confirms that:

   * The rider is an elite sportsperson or qualified coach.

   * They are internationally established.

   * Their employment will significantly contribute to the development of speedway at the highest level in the UK.

These parts make me question a lot of riders who race over here on a visa.

Especially thinking how can a Championship second string or reserve be "significantly contributing to the development of speedway at the highest level in the UK"

Hopefully the home office don't pay any more attention to Speedway than they already do.

I don't really know what the issue(s) is /are. The blind sided suggestion  is based on the fact that it is 27th June and only now coming to light. We shall hopefully see if it is a result of a management failing in due course.

I agree, I find it interesting that not one person seems to think the Workington promotion/management might be to blame either fully or partly for this.

Wishful thinking or naivety?

I believe Birmingham may well have sorted Antti's as an agreement between the clubs.

Yes they did

Has a visa sponsor pulled out or changed the name of the sponsor to cause the problem?
Has there been an unauthorised Promoter added or removed?

Just a couple of thoughts as to why it could be administrative issues.
Most Government departments don’t like name changes on paperwork without a necessary payment being made. Just a few possibilities if it’s not money related.

No one has yet asked the obvious question??..

IF IT IS VISA RELATED!

Surely any Meetings where a Rider without correct Registration has performed have to be either (a) have match score adjusted for illegal rider scores to be expunged or (b) rearranged and ridden again.

Time constraint would surely mean te early season Regional Competition be left alone BUT surely must apply to the League.

Certainly in any professionally run Sport this would be the equally relevant and important topic.

If it is a visa issue then how has the said rider passed through immigration in the first instance ? and secondly if he has passed immigration what visa is/was he on ?.

Then we have the suspension for 7 days and the cancelling of 3 meetings, that is a chunk of fixtures cancelled at short notice and leads me to believe it was ordered by someone other than the BSPL.

Not sure what the cause of this is but the timing is absolutely baffling.

if it is a cash flow issue, surely this flags up the ridiculous scenario that there are 2/3 weeks in between meetings. The league needs to be 2H2A. If we aren’t doing it because of 1 team a decision needs to be made regarding that team regarding the greater good of the sport.

If the authorities (government) have flagged up an anomaly then the timing is outwith everyone’s control. If the BSP have done this on a whim, they have royally screwed Berwick, Oxford and Redcar fans and promoters.
