Workington 2025

Recommended Posts

The cloak and dagger statements from both the BSPA and Workington leave you with more questions than answers.

What I do know from working closely with Global Mobility functions regarding the sponsorship and distribution of visas (both in the UK and abroad) is these ”administrative issues” mentioned are an inexcusable oversight and to be honest, elementary. Workington‘s choice of words shows they know that.

British speedway does it again. A total shambles.

Could it be FB missing UK meetings to ride in Poland and someone has spotted or reported that he,the club or sponsor of his application are in breach of his visa regulations.

Ban the rider then, not cause havoc for 4 teams, doesn't make sense this.

Is it something as simple as a trading name change? This would then require ALL paperwork with all Authorities to be changed eg: BSPL, HMRC, Visa, etc.  Grasping at straws I know 🤷‍♂️

That would make more sense, perhaps a search of companies house could be in order?

If it is a visa issue then how has the said rider passed through immigration in the first instance ? and secondly if he has passed immigration what visa is/was he on ?.

Then we have the suspension for 7 days and the cancelling of 3 meetings, that is a chunk of fixtures cancelled at short notice and leads me to believe it was ordered by someone other than the BSPL.

I no somebody went to court lied the way through everything and came out smelling of roses as nobody to contest these matters or oversee them.
Took there word without proof etc.

Not sure this will have any relevance, but it is very close to the date ?

Yes checking Companies House you find that Northside Speedway Training Track who I gather hold the licence for Workington Comets have been wound up/dissolved.

So in effect the Comets operating company no longer exist as a legal entity.

I am assuming a new company may be in the process of being formed with an intention to take over the licence.

Any creditors owed money by Northside Speedway Training Track will be the big losers here as they won't get a penny.

I would expect 'speedway creditors' to be paid (at least in part) out of the BSPL bond. That then begs the question as to how keen the BSPL to licence the new trading vehicle.

PS I note that in football there are usually large points deductions when a club goes through this type of process to shake off some of its liabilities.

Sad strange times for comets fans, but I wonder what the riders think, they are self employed,  have had very little meetings for the comets so far this season   due to have 4 in 8 days which 3 of them taken away !!  Got to feel for them as well. If this mess is sorted, maybe they could look forward to more regular meetings

Hang on a minute comets not dead yet, they have been suspended for 7 days, for whatever reason.

Let's stop speculation and get behind the comets fans and management and hope for the best 😄

So would this mean that, when we ran last Saturday, we didn't have a promoters licence?

So lets cut to the chase.

The Management of Workington Speedway raced last weekend in the full knowledge that the Oerating Company had been "dissolved".

What would have happened if god forbid any of the 14 riders had been injuerd or worse.

Strictly speaking at an unlicensed Track as the BSPL registration, the Insurance and so many other factors are directly linked to the Limited Company operating the venue.

Life doesn’t revolve around what ifs, the fact is last Saturday took place and nothing happened and the fact that the short track is happening today says all the insurance and relevant paperwork is still in place, it’s just foreign riders can’t earn a living there

Dean,

I massively respect your opinion.

In this instance i'll have to agree to disagree given there is a big difference between a "training track" scenario and a full scale Speedway Fixture held under the governance of SCB / BSPL that requires the Promoting Company to be an Active Registered Company under valid Companies House authorisation
