Roger Jacobs Posted yesterday at 12:34 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:34 PM Raining quite hard just a mile or so east of the stadium at 13:30, and the radar shows it will be like that for the next hour. All the longer range forecasts have proved correct. Irrespective of the rivalry and "banter" about call-offs, this is definitely looking like a good decision.
Bald Bloke Posted yesterday at 12:44 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:44 PM 11 minutes ago, JamesB said: My comments were in the context of the weather forecast for today, which was/is rain showers throughout the day extending into the evening. A Speedway Promoter is the owner of a business. In my experience, where you have weather conditions as described then the attendance is diminished probably because people are concerned about paying their money to get in only for the meeting to be cancelled or a mad rush to Heat 10 on a borderline track with reduced value for money both in terms of heats completed and quality of racing. What business owner in their right mind would want to go ahead on that basis? Also, from a customer experience perspective, what would you rather have: 1. A meeting completed on a borderline track with processional racing due to the conditions. 2. A meeting rushed through to Heat 10 to get a result. 3. The meeting postponed and rearranged for a nice sunny and warm evening. I know what my preference is, but each to their own. Certainly not one with 2 top riders missing, who behind from the 1st leg 2 minutes ago, Roger Jacobs said: Raining quite hard just a mile or so east of the stadium at 13:30, and the radar shows it will be like that for the next hour. We get a lot of flack as Stars fans when we do such things. Just giving a bit back Roger and JamesB

It's all about stirring up a bit of the rivalry. Some people take everything far too seriously. Ipswich fans definitely don't take Hawkins seriously! If you take a step back, I think most will agree that Louis and Chapman have been very positive for their commitment to keeping their respective team going in increasingly tougher circumstances.

Just giving a bit back Roger and JamesB How could you suggest that having Doyle and Thompson missing would influence the decision. 😀 To be fair, it’s been raining here just north of Ipswich since 7am and it’s currently hammering it down. There’s no way the meeting would have gone ahead.

When Ippo visited in the 80's, it used to be great. Big crowds and plenty of noise/banter. Even saw the odd uniformed copper or 2 on the back straight a few times. Those were the days.

It's quite sad to realise that Ipswich regularly took more fans to Lynn than attend in total at the majority of tracks today In fact if you take the exceptional 98 season that would be true for the majority of away meetings anywhere! Yet now its a small band of hardy souls in the main

Yet now its a small band of hardy souls in the main I can remember on one occasion two bus loads making it down to Rayleigh for a fixture. Always good value having the witches fans at the Weir. As you say a shame that so few travel but I guess it is cost and weekday meetings as opposed to weekend fixtures.
old bob at herne bay Posted yesterday at 03:56 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:56 PM The weather gods have rescued the Witches.... the very very early call off showed that Ippo were certainly worried about losing the home leg tonight KL having the momentum going into tonights meeting.

Not at Foxhall it isn't! We've had more rain in the last hour, and it's dull and overcast at 19:06, with showers predicted ... Did you know that in 2024, Chapman postponed meetings at the Adrian Flux Arena (aka Compost Corner) the day before because of the weather forecast on FOUR different occasions? Hmmm ... ShanoXtra Posted yesterday at 06:12 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 06:12 PM Ipswich showing why they called it early. Sheffield causing everyone to turn up only to be turned away.

old bob at herne bay Posted yesterday at 08:27 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 08:27 PM And to avoid any confusion ... I did clearly state the "weather gods have rescued Ipswich" . Ippo must have breathed a sigh of relief when they saw the weather forecast on Wednesday 🙂
