Just to add something to the 'debate', a start marshall remains on the track when the ref starts each race as he walks away from the start line but still on the track. In fact when the start marshall has to use a pole/bollard on the line to stop the tapes from billowing, he has to return to the startline to remove the pole while the first lap of the race is in progress.

Also aren't start marshalls, like refs, SCB accredited?

Come on clive you've watched enough speedway to know this was blatantly cheating i expected better from you.

I guess you won't want any more Pirates to guest for you then? Although I note Garry M was in deep convo with a couple of them on Weds.😇 or maybe that was for next season......!😉

Regardless of who was winning or losing the deciding race, to allow anyone at all to stand inside the exclusion zone while a race continued is inexplicable.

As there has been considerable photographic evidence of this (and, l presume, video coverage) the SCB will have to take action.

Not regarding the end result, but because of the blatant disregard of the H&S aspect.  Heads must roll.

The referee told me it was too late to pull back the race, but I don’t think that’s the case because we questioned the result in time.

“I mentioned the problem with the tapes earlier in the evening and it was laughed off, when it should have been fixed.

I guess we shall all have to wait for the official SCB referee's meeting report and whether there was any official protest lodged by the Oxford management, plus what was communicated by the ref to the start marshall, if anything?

On the SCB website under Officials Listing, start marshal’s have no specific classification other than Track Official unlike other roles (e.g. clerk of the course, machine examiner) where attendance on an SCB course is a requirement of holding the job.

I thought Start Marshals were Licenced, unlike flag marshals. Although they don't have to attend the SCB training days. This is strange as arguably they have the most visible official for the fans during a meeting and they are the ones that are again arguably the volunteer most likely to he impacted by health and safety procedures.
